Making Things Worse

He remembered everything . . . mostly.

The things Marvin kept hidden weren't there so there were a few gaps.

All the memories had flowed in at once in his nightmare and he just wanted to puke.

Anti possessing Sean and slitting his throat.

Anti trying to strangle Henrik.

Anti possessing MOST of them and hurting them all in some way.

He even remembered when Anti had tried to hurt his kids!

There were gaps there, too.

In Chase's nightmare, there was blood. So much blood. He remembered a dark red hallway yelling at Anti and pleading but the creature just grinned at him before glitching away. He remembered screaming when he found out why Anti was smiling.

A part of him KNEW that Anti had possessed him just like he did the others. He made him do something but it was hidden to him.

In the end, Marvin had ejected him into the void but the memories still remained.

Chase remembered feeling so hopeless and afraid. Sick to his stomach. He had tried to kill himself then, too. So many suicide attempts only for them to fail. He was just a complete failure.

No wonder Anti loved to torment him so much.

When he woke up, he bolted upwards in his bed breathing erratically, his mind blank.

He held his head and a hand over his mouth as he cried from the memories that kept flooding in.

'He really is a monster' Chase didn't want to believe that anyone could really not have any morale or regret for any of their actions but here was Anti.

Chase's features suddenly turned and he ran out of the bed and into the bathroom where his pills were. He tore open the bottle cap and was about to down them all.

"Fucking pathetic" Anti's voice sounded on the TV loud and clear, "Again, Chase? You wanted to remember. This is the price"  He was so unapologetic. So fucking annoying.

Chase put the pill bottle down and his mood swung once again into rage. His white-knuckled fist nearly crushed the bottle in his hand and his face turned red.

Shaking, he stomped out of the bathroom, glaring at the thing in the TV. Anti had the sense to see that the look in Chase's eyes had changed. Something in the back of Anti's mind told him he shouldn't push him but he ignored that.

"What? Mad at little old me? It was a few years ago. I'd figured you lot were all about forgiveness and all that. Or are you all hypocrites?"

"SHUT UP!"

Anti went quiet involuntarily. Chase's demeanor sent a chill down through him but he refused to admit he was . . .afraid.

"You." Chase started, "You really are a fucking monster. A worthless piece of shit!" he suddenly smiled, "And here you are trapped in a fooking TV! In any and all electronic devices! How pathetic for YOU!"

Anti rolled his eyes and glitched away to his phone but Chase had other ideas, "OH NO YOU DON'T."

He made his way to his electric box on his porch and shut off all his power.

"What the hell is wrong with you!?" Anti shouted back at him, "You can't keep the power off forever, you moron!"

"I DON'T CARE!" Chase stomped back into the bedroom, picking up the phone, "YOU'RE GONNA SIT HERE AND FOOKING LISTEN TO ME, YA FOOKING GLITCH BITCH!!"

Anti snarled at him but before he could retort, Chase continued, "You're lucky Marvin doesn't believe me because if he did, I'd have him torture you beyond belief, ya fook, and he'd enjoy it, too! You'd be locked away in the pits of hell for everything you've done!"

"Are you finished?"

"NO! You tried to hurt my kids! My wife! My family! For what!? Revenge on Sean!? Some sick satisfaction!? So you could feed your own sadness with the sorrow of others!?" he hissed out at him.

"Fook off! I'm not sad! I don't have emotions like you human scum!"

"Because all you are is a monster, right? A demon. A worthless, disgusting VIRUS and THAT is why Sean threw you aside."

That sort of struck him. Just a little. But Anti refused to admit it and ignored the burning in his chest again with a smile.

"You mad, bro?" Chase's features turned darker.

"I'm not your fucking brother."

Anti felt his throat hurt at that and he couldn't understand why. What was Chase's words doing to him!?

"Not your brother" he repeated, "None of Sean's egos are. You're NOTHING to me. You're alone, whether you like it or not and it's your own damn fault."

Silence was between them for few moments before Chase finally spoke again, "Marvin may refuse to believe you're back but that doesn't mean I can't get rid of you myself. Trust me, I'll find a way."

With that, he turned off his phone and made his way out of the house, grabbing his keys and cap as always.

Anti, having been shut out back into the static void, was actually pretty surprised by Chase's actions and words. He never would have thought Chase would say those sort of things or react in the way he did. Perhaps he really did break him.

But now he was stuck. He could try and glitch to someone else's tech but it would be useless. He couldn't find Chase that way. He'd play the waiting game again.

The burning in his chest and throat hadn't stopped and he couldn't fathom what it could mean. Surely what Chase had said didn't affect him? And if it did, then how?

Chase walked briskly down the sidewalk with his hands in his pockets. As he walked, he found his anger fading but he was still upset. Of course he was. Why wouldn't he be?

He knew there were still a lot that was kept hidden from him but he'd figure that out some other time. First, he had to get rid of Anti and the first stage in his plan had worked. He hoped, anyways. Shutting off all power and leaving his phone behind gave him the advantage to go wherever he pleased without Anti knowing.

Next, he went off to a tech store and bought a VPN and a small cheap laptop. Thankfully the computer was second-hand so it didn't put him out any money from his savings.

With everything set up, he took off to a local coffee shop and sat in a corner by himself, setting up the computer. Once finished, he hooked up the VPN and did something he probably shouldn't have. If police found out, he'd surely go to jail and none of his brothers would bail him out.

Except for maybe Marvin. . .considering it was his black-market site he was going onto.

Chase felt a bit more anxious than usual but tried to keep chill, searching for what he thought he'd need.

'Damn, Marv' he thought, 'No wonder your business shop is still doing good. The shit you have on here is worth a fortune!' and it was priced as such.

Chase sighed but found what he would need.

'Got a demon? There's a book for that. Geez, Marv, you're a fooking meme. But a whole grand!?Are you serious!?'

He bit his lip and groaned, 'And I can't just GO to him or else he'll really think I've lost it. But what if this isn't the book I need?'

'Bing!'

A chat bubble popped up with Marvin's cat mask on it.

'Someone is typing' it read.

Chase sweat a little. Hopefully Marvin couldn't tell it was him.

'Hi! I'm Marvin the Magnificent! I see you're trying to make a purchase. Did you find what you were looking for?'

Chase snorted, 'He actually used his real name?'

But Chase typed anyways, asking for something that would expel a virus-like demon. Something that connected itself to technology.

At first he thought Marvin caught on to him but within a few moments, he typed back.

'Sorry for the wait. What you are looking for an enchantment spell that is infused into a flashdrive. Search for flashdrives and you'll find it there. What you'll do is insert it into your computer when your demon has attached itself to it. The spell will do the work from there. Did I answer your question?'

Chase typed up a quick thank you and purchased the USB. Luckily it was only around a hundred dollars. Then he quickly got off the site and cleared his history before unhooking the VPN.

'I wonder how long it will take to be sent to me. It didn't even ask for an address. But knowing Marvin, it'll magically appear somewhere.'

Packing up, he went to the restroom before leaving. When he came back out, though, there was a flashdrive on the table he was just sitting at by the computer.

'Just like that' he smiled and pocketed it, putting up his computer in a bag and taking off for home.

He didn't know what the flashdrive would do exactly but it was worth a shot. He couldn't let Anti roam around free. Couldn't let him continue to grow stronger. If he didn't do this then they'd all just keep going in fucking circles.

He kept giving himself the pep talk all the way home and kept repeating that it wasn't murder. It wasn't. Besides, Anti had tried to kill ALL of them so he was just getting what he deserved, right?

His thoughts wandered to how Anti behaved when Chase would call him out on things. That pout was so child-like. And when he yelled at him earlier. He could have sworn he saw Anti flinch.

But he shook his head and powered through, opening up the door. He didn't turn on his power yet but went into the living room to unpack his new computer.

"Ooooo! What's this!?" Anti's voice beamed, "Another toy I can mess with!?"

His voice was teasing but also very genuinely excited and it made Chase wince just a hair.

"Not for you" but his words were meant to be bait as he started it up.

"You got some calls while you were gone, by the way."

Chase stopped in his tracks, "Who from?"

"Oh you're not going to yell at me again? I don't fooking know. I got bored after the lawyer called listening to his fooking cheery-ass voice. You can definitely tell he's banging your ex"

Chase growled and went to grab his phone himself, seeing Anti on the screen. The glitch pointed at the Contacts app with a grin, bouncing up and down. If he wasn't pissed off at him, he'd almost say it was cute.

There, he saw the voicemails he had.

'Three voicemails?' he narrowed his eyes, 'That doesn't sound right.'

He saw one was from an unknown number, another from Stacey and the other from Marvin. He had a feeling he knew what the one from Marvin was about so he skipped his on purpose going to the unknown number.

"Hey! Name's Derek Smith! I'm Stacey's divorce lawyer and she said you two wanted a different time time for the court date? I can do that! It'll be Wednesday at 4:30 sharp Mr. Brody! Make sure you're there! Alright, I'll see ya then"

Chase wanted to punch the bastard. Such a fake smiling son of a bitch. He couldn't wait to see him Wednesday and put him in his place. And hopefully not make a fool out of himself.

Luckily things were looking pretty good for him. He got a new job, his house was clean, HE was clean. He just had to not drink today and tomorrow and get rid of the glitch that haunted him and he'd be golden!

Chase tapped on the message from Stacey but he didn't really listen. It was just her saying the same thing that 'Derek' said. 4:30 sharp.

Anti sneered, "You ain't gonna check up on Marvin's message? You mad at him, too?"

Chase ignored him and typed in his password for the computer. Immediately, Anti buzzed into it to look around, falling right into Chase's trap.

Anti went to smirk at Chase, "What a cheap piece of shit computer for a piece of shit fa- what are you doing?"

With a dead look in his eyes, Chase plugged in the flashdrive.

At once, Anti's eyes widened, feeling something was off but for some reason, he couldn't exit the computer!

"What did you do, Brody!? Something's weird! What did you do!?"

Chase didn't smile but he felt relieved when Anti started deforming, fading away, "Hey wait! No! What's happening!? Brody, wait! Unplug it! Damn you, fooking unplug it NOW!!"

"Bye glitch bitch"

Suddenly Anti was gone.

He wasn't on the computer anymore. He went to stand to go turn the power back on but suddenly the computer shocked him and the blue screen of death appeared on the screen.

"Ow! What the-?"

The screen started glitching like crazy like an old VHS and the computer's fan ran like crazy but it was no use. Suddenly the laptop exploded in his lap and something electrocuted him. He could hear the buzzing and static in his ears. Popping from the computer and he coughed a little.

His heart raced and it was just too much for him.

He passed out but luckily he was on his bed. Luckily the computer didn't catch on fire and whatever was left of it just laid on the bed next to him somewhat smelling of smoke.

"Huuuuh!!" Chase gasped awake and coughed, bolting upright in his bed. His heart still raced from what happened but it wasn't very clear what exactly DID happen.

Shakily, he got up, pushing the broken computer onto the floor. It was dark out by now and he picked up his phone, seeing it was about three in the morning. As his breathing slowed, he did a check on himself for any burns. He knew he should probably call Henrik just in case he had a heart attack but he didn't really want to explain what happened.

Instead, he took a few breathes and got into the shower.

Strangely, enough, he felt well-rested for once, deciding to just stay up for a while until he had to start his first day at the fast-food place.

It was dark in his room, though, so he decided he should probably turn on the power, first.

Once he turned it all on, he was relieved that there was no buzzing. No laughter or the sounds of static. No sign of him.

'Is he finally gone? Did I actually do it?'

Chase walked into the bathroom and showered, breathing easy as the hot drops ran down his body, relaxing him.

'God, I haven't felt this relaxed in ages. He must be really gone.' he smiled for the first time in a long while. Maybe things were really finally looking up for him.

When he was done, he threw away the computer, brushing up the debris and trashing it. His first day at work started in a few hours at six on the morning shift. He was off around two or three tomorrow and that should give him enough time to come home, get changed and get to the court.

'Holy fuck, this means I can drive now!' He'll finally have an easy way to get to places without walking.

Groaning from the relief of it all, Chase hopped on the balls of his feet and went to the kitchen to make himself some breakfast. He felt like pancakes would be good.

As he got to cooking, he'd feel a little prick here and there on his throat but he waved it off as nothing, scratching at it. The scent of the pancakes were like heaven to him and he hummed to himself as he fixed his plate up with a couple and a bunch of syrup with a glass of milk.

Stabbing his fork into the pancakes, he ignored how forceful it was and stuffed the food in his mouth.

'HOLY FUCK NO WONDER YOU WEIRDOS EAT! THIS IS FOOKING DELICIOUS!!!'

Chase choked suddenly at the unwelcome voice and coughed, swallowing down the food.

With a shiver, Chase grit his teeth, "No. No fooking way."

'Yes way, Brody.' Anti responded with victory in his voice, 'I'm still  around! It seems you succeeded in getting me out of the static void but now we have a different problem. I'm stuck in your head, now"

"FUCK!!!!"
