Let There Be Darkness
When Henrik was finally done patching Anti up, said glitch mowed down his plate of food hungrily and even tried going for seconds. Chase stopped him, however, placing a large glass of water in front of him, "Drink all of that, first and then you can have more"
"But why!?"
"He is right." Henrik wiped his face with a napkin, "You are pretty dehydrated. Drugs and alcohol vill do that to you. Have you been drinking ANY plain water?"
Anti pouted in a snarl but huffed and caved, drinking the water. He wanted dessert, too, so he'd be sure to drink it all quickly.
Jackie was still glaring at him. It was clear he still didn't trust him but what choice did he really have?
"You still haven't answered some of my questions"
"That's because I don't want to, cape-boy"
Jackie's eye twitched but sighed, trying to calm himself, "What was your motive in killing those gang members?"
Anti snagged some fried chicken and mac and cheese along with some chocolate chip cookies Chase had ordered.
He had the full intention of ignoring Jackie until the man stood up suddenly, hitting the table with his fist. His strength left a small splintered dent in the table.
Chase groaned, "Jackie, what the fook!? You're paying for another table, you arsehole!"
Anti just stared at the mark left behind and swallowed but wasn't going to back down to him, "Why have you been slacking off? You've let this town go corrupt, hero"
Picking up his plate, Anti took it with him to the living room. He wasn't going to sit there and be questioned like that.
They were all surprised, really. They expected Anti to snap and attack them all. Chase, however, took his food with him to go sit next to Anti in the living room. Grabbing a bowl of ice cream as he did so, leaving the others at the kitchen table to think about what the hell just happened.
Chase walked in and 'bravely' sat next to Anti on the couch as he stared at a static screen, finishing his savory foods.
"You know what would go great with cookies?"
"Hm"
"Ice cream" Chase spooned some on his plate next to the cookies and Anti sighed.
"Why are you being this way, Chase? You shouldn't be"
"Eh. Call me crazy but we've been through a lot together the last couple weeks, bro. Getting to know you hasn't been easy but I think I'm starting to get a hang of it."
"Stop calling me bro. I'm not your brother, remember? Said so yourself not long ago. You got some Stockholm Syndrome or something?"
"Maybe" Chase didn't fix what Anti had said but he knew he was still going to be stubborn about it.
"Look, I know we got off on the wrong foot. Wrong limb, even. . . . but I'm glad you're trying. You can't tell me you haven't changed. If you hadn't, we'd all be dead, right? Wasn't that your whole goal in the beginning?"
Anti shrugged and Chase chuckled, "Look. . . we'll fix the mess with Dark. And then once that's settled, you can live here, alright? I don't like the idea of you not having a place to sleep . . . . and walking around making people believe you're me. Yeah, I'm not stupid"
Anti just laid back on the arm of the couch, staring up at the ceiling, "There's nothing you morons can do. Dark's gonna kill me and that's that. Might as well hand myself over to him"
Chase pinched him and Anti howled, "Ow! You arsehole! Knock it off! I'm already in pain, here!"
"Then stop saying stupid shite! We'll figure it out. Now eat your ice cream. It's melting"
"Whatever."
"You're such a child"
"Fook off"
In the other room, the others could hear them talking. Everyone, even Marvin, had to admit this situation was fucked up. Anti had done all sorts of wrong to all of them.
How could they all just treat it as if it didn't happen?
Sure, Anti stepped in to help them, attacking Dark but that didn't mean he had completely changed. So what if he's gained some emotions. Doesn't mean he necessarily regrets everything he's done. Who's to say he didn't save them from Dark only to what that kill for himself?
"Alright!" Marvin walked in the living room to join Chase and Anti with the others behind him, "I know this is still pretty awkward and weird for everyone but we really need to think of a plan to deal with Dark"
'Any chance that apologizing will do the trick?' Jameson asked but Anti just snorted.
"Even if I do, I'll still get my organs ripped out. Just got them, I'd prefer not to lose them so fast."
Jackie rolled his eyes but sighed, "Why did you have to fuck with Dark anyways? What the hell was going through your head?"
"Oh I don't know, wanna-be action-man, perhaps it was the crack coursing through my veins or the vodka. Or maybe it was because I wanted to get back at the smug bastard." he mocked Jackie.
"Get back at him? Because you lost to him the last time you two fought?" Marvin asked.
"How'd you bastards find out about that anyways?"
"Wilford posted it on Twitter"
"Tch"
"Anyways!" Chase ran his hands up his face and through his hair, "Anti . . . . You're not going to leave this building until this is dealt with. And that means us all working together to settle the problem. Do we think we can all do that?"
Jackie glared Anti down and his face scrunched, "How can we trust him? It's clear you do and I'll try and get used to that but that doesn't excuse the shit he's done to the rest of us"
"Tie me up then, big boy" Anti winked, making Jackie severely uncomfortable. Chase just sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose mumbling something under his breathe.
Anti just rolled his eyes, "Hmph. Look, you lot don't have to trust me. I wouldn't. Do whatever you have to, I don't care."
"What if we contacted Sean or Mark?" Henrik suggested.
"Except that!" Anti glitched at the very prospect, "They won't help! Why would they!?"
"I have to say, I actually agree with Anti on that." Chase bit the inside of his cheek, "If Sean really cared about us, he wouldn't have left us all behind like he has. Mark's the same way about his own egos."
'So we're on our own?' Jameson asked.
"Seems like it" Jackie confirmed, still staring at Anti.
Finally, however, the glitch got fed up with it, "Hey why don't you take a picture!? It lasts longer!"
"Fucking glitch bitch. You feel so fucking safe right now, don't you?" he growled out.
"Jackie" Chase warned but he couldn't stop the ex-hero from grabbing at Anti with a hand around his throat, "Jackie, knock it off!"
"You wanna kill me so bad, don't you? You don't trust Brody at all. You're just waiting for the chance- hugh!" Jackie choked him to try and shut him up.
"When we finish this mess with Dark, you're going to wish it was him that killed you"
Anti only chose to mock him further, "Choke me harder, ya cunt"
Marvin broke the two apart, "Enough! Fighting with each other isn't going to solve this!"
"Why are we even helping?" Jackie hissed out, "Dark wants Anti and if Chase wants to go down with him then fine! I say let him!"
"Jackie, you do not mean that" Henrik tried but it only spurred Jackie on further.
"Chase has even ADMITTED to killing those people of his own free will! He's just as bad as Anti, now!"
Chase glared at Jackie but didn't fight him. If that's what Jackie thought then so be it, "Get out of my house, then, Jackie. Anyone else who agrees with him can go, too. If that's what you really think. Didn't know your morals stooped so low, Jackie, that you are willing to abandon your own family"
Jackie went to slug Chase only for Anti to glitch in front of him, "He's right, you know. You've fallen, dear hero. You used to be so much more. . . . . respectable. Now you're nothing more than a glorified stuntman acting the part of a hero thinking you're so much better than everyone else because you have a steady income."
"You don't know a damn thing, Glitch"
"You could have given Chase more money than just for a new phone. Instead, you preached and made him feel so much lower than you. And you loved every single moment of it. And you call me the asshole"
"You killed people. You hurt ALL of us for no reason"
"True." Anti grinned, "At least I own up to it"
Jackie was about to say something else when suddenly the power went out.
Everything went dark but Marvin cast a spell so they could see, "Chase? Please tell me you just forgot to pay your electric bill?"
"Uh" He actually didn't know the answer to that.
Anti sparked a little, green electricity coming off of his body in his anxiety, "Seems Dark's a quick healer"
"What?! But I shot him twice! The shot in the stomach should have at least put him out for a few days!"
Henrik cleared his throat, "Actually, vith my experience with Dr. Iplier, the Iplier egos can heal significantly quicker."
"Well that would have been nice to know!" Marvin huffed.
'Well that's just not fair' Jameson signed and stomped his foot down in protest, 'How could Mark make his egos like that and Sean not?'
"We don't have time to worry about that right now" Jackie cut through the conversation, "Dark could be here any second and we need to be ready"
But Anti couldn't sense the Iplier ego leader. He looked over to Basil calmly cleaning herself. Clearly she didn't sense him, either.
"He's not here" Anti walked to Chase's porch to the power box. The others watched him curiously as he held his hands on the fuses and cables and managed to start up the electricity in the house.
"That's handy" Marvin chuckled.
Anti looked outside from the porch though and noticed something was off. It hadn't been just this house.
"Hey morons! Turn on the news! I don't think it was just this house!"
Chase turned on his TV and Anti came back in, holding his hand on it. It seemed local television was out so he connected to the next town over.
A sudden broadcast came on talking about the whole of the city had gone dark. It wasn't just Chase's house. It was the whole city.
"What's Dark playing at?" Chase asked but no one could give him an answer.
Suddenly there were sirens blaring in the streets and Jackie's fists clenched, "He might still be healing. He could of had Google take out the power as a diversion or to get us to separate somehow."
"Fuck" Chase grumbled, "You really pissed him off, dude, if he's willing to go so far"
"I feel so loved" Anti mocked,, rolling his eyes.
"Vhat do we do? If we just sit and wait, he'll still return. Ve need to do something"
On the TV, a reporter was downtown taking cover. It seemed that a different gang was taking advantage of the power outage. Jackie's body itched to rush towards the danger but he kept himself bound. He couldn't risk the other ego's safety like that.
'Jackie?' Jameson shook his shoulder to get his attention and he saw they were watching him and his movements, 'We can't just let people get hurt'
"But isn't that what Dark wants?" Jackie scoffed, "If we do nothing, people get hurt. If we help, people still get hurt."
"And we can't let that happen." Marvin sighed, "Maybe if we can figure out a way to get the power back up then we could deal with the crime in the city? Deal with one problem at a time together."
"If you're willing to help, that is" Chase reminded him, "Dark is no pushover. We need everyone together on this"
"None of this would have happened if is wasn't for-" he glared at Anti but Chase drew his attention back to him.
"NONE of this would have happened if I had just talked to you guys. It's not Anti's fault. He's just as messed up as the rest of us. We all have our faults"
"Ugh, fook off Brody" Anti whined, "Sick of all the fluff shit floating around this fooking place. What are you fooking doing!?"
"Let's find the source of the power outage" Marvin suggested before another argument arose, "Maybe it's close by and then we can-"
'Ring' 'Ring' 'Buuuuuzzzzz' 'Ring' 'Ring'
Chase took out his phone and read the caller ID with confusion, "It's Stacey."
Without another word, Chase answered the phone and put it on speaker, "Stace? Hey what's wrong? Everything alright?"
"I don't know what happened! This man just . .and the kids! I don't know what to do!"
"Stace, Stace! Calm down, it's gonna be okay. Just calm down and tell me what happened." Chase's heart rate was spiking at the mention of the kids, "What about the kids?"
Stacey was crying on the other end and hiccupping in her panic, "T-they're gone! A man . . . .A man j-just appeared out of nowhere and TOOK them! Chase, I don't know what do to! The power's out and I tried calling the police but they were BUSY!"
Chase stared at his brothers in steely determination and rage, "Don't worry, Stace, I'll get them back, okay? I might know who took them. Just sit tight, okay?"
Before she could respond, Chase hung up the phone so he didn't have to explain himself.
He just stared at Anti who had the sense to look nervous, "And now we have a different problem. Dark has my kids"
