Chapter 14: to the great forest region

Lisa gave the music box to Frederick, trying not to cry again. Neither he nor Yukio know why she was crying before they entered the room, but something must have hit close to home. Suddenly, she told them that the music box played a lullaby tune that produced images. She explained to them on how the images showed the life of the boy who went from infant to a ten year old, only for his father to die and his mother grieved for the loss.

"There must have been some magic that contained memories" remarked Yukio.

"What you have witnessed is none other than the kings memories, and you have already know that his father died. Well, it's one of those factors that led to him on the path of villainy. The other factor is when he was betrayed by the girl he had helped out, the one who he thought had loved him. In his grief over the betrayal, he had torn his own heart out and buried it somewhere in the forest, to discard the feelings such as love and sadness. He only did that because he did not want to be hurt again, but doing so only worsens his dilemma" explained Frederick.

"Doesn't that kill him?" Asked Lisa.

"To normal person, yes. However, the king himself possessed supernatural powers just like his mother and father. Therefore, he can separate his own heart by discarding his feelings without actually killing himself" answered Frederick.

Yukio checked each statue, but there wasn't anything of note. However, he spot something glowing behind the two statues. When he walked past the two statues, there was a broken down statue with a glowing keyhole at the base.

"Found it!" He said.

Lisa and Frederick walked to where he is, and he pointed at the broken statue. Lisa pulled out the diamond key and insert it into the keyhole, before turning it. Then everything started to change into a swirl of red, yellow, and blue vortex like usual. It pulled Lisa back into the real world just like how she used the other keys before, and she had grown used to going to the film and back to the real world.

"Well, I'm back home. Still no sign of mom, I hope she's ok" she said to herself.

Suddenly, the tv started to show a scene of her mother escaping from the cloud castle along with plastic like princess. She watched as her mother and the princess boarded a row boat made of clouds, with a horned man rowing it towards the village. She couldn't believe that her mother managed to escape the castle, but the film cut to a scene where a large shadowy owl wreathed in fire swooped towards the row boat. Luckily, the horned man ward it off by shooting electricity from his fingers. Then it cuts to a scene where her mother and the princess explored the village in the clouds, and there was a music festival featuring a music that sounded somber.

"What a relief! I knew mom was safe, but who is that princess with her? And what is that large owl trying to attack them?" She asked herself.

Then the tv screen flickered, before showing a map of the land of of the starry night. Three new regions started to glow, with three keys appeared in each. Each of the keys have different gemstones in it, which include: aquamarine, musgravite (a rare gemstone that can range from green, gray, or grayish green), and amethyst.

"Hmm... I wonder where my mom is located, it could be any of these regions as far as I know" she said (She doesn't know that the village of storms where her mother is at has the topaz key).

She wasn't sure which region to go to next, for she had unlocked four regions to restore parts of the film. Her finger moved from one region to another, trying to decide on where to go next. She then randomly pressed the region with the musgravite key, and it pulled her in. The next thing she knows, she finds herself in the middle of a forest of tall trees. Everywhere she looked, there's nothing but trees. She walked through the forest, expecting a path that will guide her. Unfortunately, there's no paths that will guide her to her destination. Birdsong filled the air as sunlight filters through the forest canopy, giving the forest a calming aura.

"This feels peaceful, it reminds me of a picture of the forests within North Carolina" she remarked.

She continued walking, but she saw a figure leaping from tree to tree. Then it landed in front of her, revealing that it was none other than Kurotsuki.

"Ah, perfect timing!" He said.

"Kurotsuki? What are you doing here?" She asked.

"I'm here scouting this region under orders from mistress Enju, because she foresaw that you needed my help in this forest. It's pretty easy to get lost in this expansive forest, in which it can transition from a forest of trees to a forest of bamboo at a drop of a hat" he answered.

"How is that possible?" She asked.

"Apparently, this is due to the influence of leaf mages. Wizards who can control leaves, and they have developed some kind of powder that allows them to turn trees into bamboo temporarily. I have met one, a female, while looking for you" he explained.

"I see, we should go look for them to see where the musgravite key is" she said.

Kurotsuki nodded, and walked with her.

They both entered a clearance with few wildflowers, and a person sized pile of leaves. It's rather suspicious of seeing a pile of leaves, but it could be where a leaf mage had piled up the leaves for some kind of ritual. When they got closed to it, it started to shake and rustle.

*poof!*

It dissipates into a cloud, revealing a man standing in its place. He is muscular, with fair skin, and long green hair. He wore nothing but a grass skirt made from a mix between leaves and grass held together with a vine, a wreath made from leaves and twigs, bracers and leg guards made of halves of bamboo. He folded his arms with a grin, seeing two new visitors of the forest.

"Welcome to the great forest, visitors! I am Cedric, leader of the leaf mages!" He greeted.

"Oi! Put some actual clothes on! How can you walk around in public wearing nothing but plants!?" Complained Kurotsuki.

"Hmph! This is what we leaf mages wore, to be connected with nature. We wear leaves, vines, twigs, and wreaths that augmented our magic!" Said Cedric with a scoff.

"Calm down, you two! We wanted to look for the musgravite key, to unlock this region" Lisa chastised.

The two men looked at her with a worried look on their faces, before focusing on each other.

"Perhaps she's right, the musgravite key is in my village far to the north from here" said Cedric.

"With your leaf magic, it'll be of use" said Kurotsuki.

Authors note: this marks of where Lisa and Kurotsuki find some answers within the forest.
