3: Denial

Jacey who I have assigned to take care of my son in the office rushed out a moment after with an apologetic look.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. Leo keeps demanding to look for his mother." She explained while Leo came rushing towards me.

"Mama." He smiled, opening his arms for me to carry him which I did.

I looked towards Chase who was staring at his son as though he was deep in thoughts.

Leo's eyes stayed fixated on his tattoos with a broad smile. "That thing is so cool." He chuckled, smiling at his father while my heart instantly warmed at the sight.

Was I being selfish for tearing this father and son apart for four years?

"Okay, Leo. Follow sister Jacey and play in the indoor playground." I said, setting him down as I looked towards Jacey who instantly complied.

I watched as she carried him and brought him to the back where there was an indoor playground that I had included in the restaurant for the children.

My attention was steered back to Chase who held a questioning gaze.

I sighed, "Let's talk in the office." I suggested, turning around as I walked back to the office with him in tow.

He slammed the door shut and pinned me against the wall. I took a sharp intake of breath and stared at him as I noticed that he was just a breath away.

His eyes hardened when I was cowering under his intimidating gaze.

After he had become the leader of a gang, he was no longer the Chase whom I once knew.

His eyes no longer softened when he was looking at me. Instead, it was replaced with a rigid, cold demeanor.

"What do you want, Chase?" I asked, taking in deep breaths to calm my racing heart.

Yet, there was nothing that could calm down my heart either.

Only he can.

His fingers travelled down to my chin as he tilted my face to level my eyes with his.

"I want an answer from you if that boy is my son."

What I have expected, really came. I shivered involuntarily, closing my eyes briefly.

Since he was no longer the Chase I once knew, but a heartless gang leader, there was no need for him to be a part of his son's life.

The last thing I wanted was for my son to follow in his father's footsteps.

"No, he's not your son." I replied firmly, trying to keep up with my confidence.

His fingers gripped around around my wrist tightened as he glared at me.

"You're hurting my wrist." I muttered under my breath, staring at him.

His eyes never once softened like he used to. He was a monster now.

And, I wouldn't want to risk my son to become a monster like him.

"I am giving you one last chance, Gemini. Is he my son?" He demanded, his hot breath fanning my neck.

I panted heavily in panic, my heart racing quicker than ever.

Things stayed peaceful after I left him. If I let him enter our lives, who knows when there might be chaos again.

The last thing I wanted was for Roderick to hunt down me and my son just to exact revenge on Chase.

This was a risk I wasn't willing to take, even if it meant separating the father and son.

"I don't like repeating the same answer twice." Was my answer as I hated myself for the decision I had made.

He finally took a step back and released his iron grip on my wrist.

I watched as he slowly walked towards the desk, his fingers skimming across the surface as he leaned against it, staring at me with a solemn look.

"If I ever find out that you're lying to me, I will not hesitate to burn down this restaurant." He stated, folding his muscled arms.

I looked away, unable to hold his piercing gaze as I breathed heavily.

"There's something that you might not know," He paused, approaching me as he looked towards me with a sly smirk.

"When I want something, I will do whatever it takes to get it, including this restaurant." I can't help, but to think that there was a double meaning in his words.

"I will be back again." And he stormed out of the office, leaving me in a state of panic.
