"The father's here."
"I'm sorry I'm late, traffic's crazy out there."
Taehyung looks over at the sound of his voice, frowning in confusion as he walks in.
"It's not a problem at all, sweetheart." Dr. Song says before waving the nurse on. "You can take a seat here."
"What are you doing here?" Taehyung asks in a low voice when Dr. Song walks to the other side of the room.
"I'm here for you." Jeongguk smiles softly as he reaches out and catches the brunette's tears with his thumbs.
Taehyung pulls away, avoiding Jeongguk's eyes as Dr. Song proceeds with the ultrasound. He feels the ravenette looking at him but he keeps his eyes forward.
"Ah, I see, I see." Dr. Song says as soon as there's a clear picture. "If you can see here," She says pointing to the screen. "They've just wrapped themselves up in the umbilical cord."
"Is it alright?" Taehyung asks looking at the screen.
"Let me just..." She moves the wand again before the sound of the heartbeat thuds to life in the room. "See, baby's fine."
Taehyung knows he should feel relieved but for some reason he doesn't feel anything.
"How could you get the baby to untangle itself?" Jeongguk asks from beside Taehyung.
"It's not around the baby's neck so I'm not too worried about it. It should work itself out in a day or so. If the tangle becomes worse or it wraps around the baby's neck then we might have to schedule a cesarean section right away." Dr. Song explains as she stands. "I do want to run a few blood tests since this is the first appointment you've had since earlier in your pregnancy."
Taehyung nods as she hands him some napkins to wipe his stomach off with. He can feel Jeongguk's eyes on his trembling hands but he ignores him. Dr. Song draws some blood before leaving the two alone.
"Where are the boys?" Taehyung asks without looking at Jeongguk.
"With your mom." The ravenette answers. "I went there to talk to you and she told me you were on the way here so I came as quick as I could."
"You shouldn't have come." The brunette says, his eyes cast downward as he suppressed the tears that were still threatening to fall from his eyes. "I don't want you here."
"What happened the last time you went to the hospital?" Jeongguk asks, disregarding Taehyung's words. "Tell me."
"What are you talking about?" The brunette says closing his eyes. He wishes he could stop himself from wanting to cry.
"You've avoided coming here since you got back, even when you were in pain. Every time I suggested the hospital you said you couldn't." Jeongguk says. "When I got here you were crying and your hands haven't stopped shaking the entire time."
"Nothing happened." Taehyung says, his voice cracking.
"Don't lie." Jeongguk says firmly. "Tell me what happened."
"Why? What the hell are you going to do about it now?" The brunette snaps, looking at Jeongguk with tears in his eyes. "Or do you want to know so you can report to Jimin after we leave?"
"I want to know so that I know how to comfort you right now." Jeongguk says honestly, keeping a calm tone despite Taehyung's snappiness. "Is that alright?"
"No, it's not, because I don't want to tell you." Taehyung says looking away and wiping his face.
"Did Chiwon do something?" Jeongguk pushes anyway.
"No," Taehyung says. "Leave me alone."
"Was it your last doctor?" The ravenette asks.
Taehyung falls silent, using every ounce of willpower he had left to hold back his tears. "...I don't want to talk about him, alright?" He says unsteadily through his tears, his voice cracking terribly.
"What'd he do~"
"Please, j-just stop, Jeongguk...I can't right now..."
Jeongguk falls silent but his expression is hard and protective as a million thoughts run through his head. "I can't just leave that alone, Taehyung. I can't, I'm sorry." He says looking at the brunette, his knee starting to bounce anxiously.
Taehyung shakes his head, covering his face with his hands as he tried to hold himself together. "I can't right now...just not right now. Please."
Jeongguk stands from the chair he was sitting in and sits on the edge of the bed, pulling Taehyung into his arms. "That's fine."
Taehyung wants to push him away but he leans into his embrace as he tries to dry his tears. Part of him was happy that Jeongguk showed up. Even though he didn't expect him to come he doesn't know how he'd get through the rest of the appointment without him.
Jeongguk rocks Taehyung slightly as they wait for Dr. Song to return. Running his fingers through his hair in an attempt to calm him down. He doesn't speak, letting the silence settle comfortably between them for the next twenty minutes.
Dr. Song decides to keep Taehyung overnight to monitor the baby's heartbeat and to make sure it didn't further wrap itself up in the umbilical cord.
Taehyung tells her that he can't, he couldn't take being here overnight.
"I'll stay with you, Tae." Jeongguk says, it wasn't a suggestion or an offer. He wasn't going anywhere.
"It's for the best, Taehyung." Dr. Song says. "I won't be able to keep an eye on the baby if you leave."
Taehyung sighs, looking away from her and Jeongguk. He didn't want to stay here.
"You'll be monitored throughout the night and I'll discharge you by noon tomorrow." Dr. Song says. "Just to make sure everything's okay."
"Okay." The brunette says without looking at her.
"Great. I'll be in and out throughout the rest of the night. A nurse will bring you an overnight bag but you're more than welcome to bring your personal things inside." Dr. Song says clicking around on the computer for a minute before leaving the room. "I'll be back soon."
Jeongguk tries to put his arm back around Taehyung but he pulls away.
"You don't have to stay." The brunette says without looking at him. "I'll be fine."
"I'm staying." Jeongguk says wrapping his arm around him anyway. "From now on if you tell me to leave I'm staying."
"If I tell you to stay are you gonna go?" Taehyung asks without pulling away from his embrace.
"Never." The ravenette says. "I'll always be here."
"That just makes you a pain in the ass, doesn't it?" The brunette asks, making him chuckle softly. "You should go, Jeongguk."
"I don't feel good about leaving." Jeongguk says honestly. "Your parents won't mind taking the boys to daycare tomorrow."
Taehyung sighs, looking out of the window at the gloomy evening. He wanted to still be upset about earlier, but he was happy that Jeongguk was staying. He couldn't get through the night alone here without freaking out.
"I'm sorry about telling Jimin about Chiwon. I was out of line and I should've known my place." Jeongguk says after a few minutes. "And I'm sorry I grabbed your arm~"
"Jeongguk~"
"No, I shouldn't have done that. If you were going to walk away I should've just let you. I don't know why I did that, I'm sorry. And it's never going to happen again, never. I swear." The ravenette continues, looking Taehyung in the eye. "And you aren't a bad judge of character. You knew I was a shady bastard within the first three days of knowing me. And I trust your judgment on Jimin."
Taehyung can't help but chuckle a little. "I can't tell you who to trust."
"I wanted you to tell me something was off when I told you he came to my house." Jeongguk admits. "And you're right, something is. Who shows up after seven months and tells someone they love them?"
"You told me you loved me after I disappeared for seven months."
"That's different. I'll always love you, and I've accepted that."
Taehyung rolls his eyes and looks away, mostly to hide the way his face flushes at the comment. "You have to listen to your own heart when it comes to Jimin."
"I know..." Jeongguk says trailing off for a second. "Are you still mad at me?"
"Yes." Taehyung says. "I'm getting over it though."
"Is there any way I can get you over it quicker?" The ravenette asks with a cheeky smile.
"Yeah there is actually." Taehyung says looking at him as he wipes at his face. It was all puffy from crying only a little while ago. "You can tell me why you came to see Dr. Song recently."
"I came to ask about you." Jeongguk shrugs. "Since you wouldn't come I just came and asked her some questions."
"And you couldn't do that over the phone?" Taehyung asks raising an eyebrow.
"It was spur of the moment and I was on this side of town." The ravenette says. "Are you over it now?"
"No, I'm still not over it." Taehyung says pushing him away playfully. "You need to learn your lesson. Every time you piss me off I forgive you right away."
"I thought that was our thing." Jeongguk says hugging him back into his side.
"Stressing each other out is our thing." Taehyung says. "It's not really a thing if you can't even remember it's a thing."
"No, I totally remembered that." The ravenette says waving his hand dismissively.
Taehyung chuckles, he couldn't believe he was actually laughing right now. Laughing felt impossible an hour ago. "You make me feel insane, Jeongguk."
"Maybe that should be our thing instead." Jeongguk chuckles.
"Gguk-ah," Taehyung says looking over at him.
Jeongguk looks at Taehyung with a surprised expression. "Since when do address me so informally? I'm your hyung."
"Listen," The brunette says nudging him with a serious expression.
"What, Taehyung-ah?" Jeongguk asks matching his expression as he listens.
"I know you're lying about why you came to see Dr. Song." Taehyung says, Jeongguk immediately looks like a deer in headlights.
"What~"
"When I got here she had no idea I was even pregnant." Taehyung explains. "I'm not mad. And I don't want to know why you lied right now."
Jeongguk looks at Taehyung with an unreadable expression on his face. "Okay?"
"When you're ready to tell me why you really came to see her I'll tell you what happened." Taehyung says. "W-What happened the last time I went to the hospital."
"Okay." Jeongguk says again, still trying to hide his feelings behind a blank expression.
Taehyung nods. "Let's just not do it here."
Jeongguk nods, sighing as he pushes Taehyung's hair out of his face. "You don't have to worry, I'm here."
"I'm not worried." The brunette promises. "And I'm happy you're here."
"I'm happy to be here." Jeongguk smiles, leaning forward and kissing Taehyung's forehead.
"Stop," He chuckles as he pulls away, wiping the kiss off. "There's a line, Jeongguk, know the line."
"I can't kiss you?" The ravenette asks.
"No, you can't." Taehyung says rolling his eyes.
"Why?"
"Because there's a line~"
"Who drew this line?"
"I draw the lines when it comes to my body." Taehyung laughs. "Back off."
"Well, you're free to kiss my body whenever you want." Jeongguk says teasingly. "Just in case you were wondering where my lines were."
"I actually wasn't, thanks." Taehyung says, his face flushing slightly.
Jeongguk notices the way his cheeks flush but he doesn't point it out, he just chuckles softly to himself. "I'm gonna call Seokjin real quick, he'd want to know that we're here."
"Okay." Taehyung says as he stands. "Thank you for being here, Jeongguk."
"Wouldn't want to be anywhere else." The ravenette smiles as he steps outside the room.
Taehyung sighs, relaxing against the pillows behind him. He feels the baby trying to move, it's the same small movements that he was feeling this morning but they reassure him more than scare him now.
All he wanted was for things to be okay.
