"Then she called my baby a thing, a fucking thing! Uughh! That bitch!"
Jeongguk just continues to rub Taehyung's back soothingly as he retold the conversation, seamlessly switching from pissed to sad as he went on.
"And my dad, he was so fucking nice." The brunette sobs, using his sleeves to wipe his tears instead of the box of tissues that Jeongguk handed him. "But why was his wife such a bitch? Damnit! I can't believe she really had the fucking nerve. She's a fucking thing, how about that, huh?"
"Breathe, Taehyung," Jeongguk says, finally speaking up.
"I'm so sorry, Jeongguk. I shouldn't have called, I just didn't know what to do." Taehyung says, more tears falling down his face as he continues to cry. "I just never expected her to react that way. She didn't even take the fucking packet! I wasted ink copying it for her and she didn't even take it."
"Shh," The ravenette says, trying to get Taehyung to calm down. "I'm sorry things went down the way they did, but you can't work yourself up like this."
"I know, I'm sorry." The brunette sighs softly, leaning forward and resting his arms on his knees. "I don't know what I expected."
"You can't change her mind, Taehyung, so don't let it upset you so much," Jeongguk says, still rubbing soothing circles into the brunette's back. "Plus, it's her loss if she chooses not to be in the baby's life."
"You're right." Taehyung says, looking up at Jeongguk. "I'm sorry I'm such a mess."
"Stop apologizing." The ravenette chuckles, brushing Taehyung's hair out of his eyes. "I'm glad you felt like you could call me."
"Were you busy?" The brunette asks, he hadn't thought twice about what Jeongguk was doing before he called.
"No," Jeongguk says. "I was just getting here when you called."
"From work?" Taehyung asks, it's not an unusual question but Jeongguk's unusual response raises suspicions.
"Um, sure." The ravenette says breaking eye contact as he answers.
"Where do you work?" The brunette asks, wiping the remainder of his tears.
"Just some boring desk job at my dad's company. Here, let me get you a new shirt. Yours is ruined." Jeongguk says, standing and leaving the living room before Taehyung can even say anything.
The brunette wants to question him when he returns with a black hoodie for him to change into, instead he thanks him and leaves his odd behavior unquestioned.
"I'll get you some water," Jeongguk says, giving Taehyung a chance to change his shirt.
"Are you going to tell your parents? About the baby?" The brunette asks as the ravenette walks off to the kitchen.
"I don't know. We don't have a great relationship." He responds, shrugging like he couldn't care less. "I don't think I want them to know."
"...Oh," Taehyung says, making Jeongguk look over at him.
"Not because I'm ashamed or anything." The ravenette says quickly. "I just don't want them to mess this up for me."
"No, I get it." The brunette says forcing a short laugh, folding his shirt and tossing it aside. "I respect your decision."
Taehyung genuinely did respect his decision, but something about his child not having either set of grandparents in their life made him feel just a little sad.
He grew up very close to his grandparents before they passed away. The thought of his child not having the same opportunity made him only slightly upset.
But with or without their parents, Taehyung was determined to give his child a good home life.
Better than what he ever had.
~Later that night...~
Jeongguk offers Taehyung to stay with him for the rest of the night, telling him he could take the guest room if wanted.
Once they started talking earlier time just got away from them, Jeongguk ended up ordering them some food, and the rest of the night they just talked. About the future, about the baby, and about where they stood romantically.
They both agreed that it was best if they co-parented without the intention of getting involved romantically.
Trying to manage a new relationship on top of his pregnancy, finishing school, and working, wasn't ideal for Taehyung right now and Jeongguk understood that.
"I shouldn't," Taehyung says to the older's offer. He found out Jeongguk was older than him during their conversation earlier, which came as a surprise for both of them. "Namjoon's probably wondering where I am."
"I keep hearing about this Namjoon person. What, is he your boyfriend?" Jeongguk asks, his eyes rolling slightly as he asks the question.
"I just told you that I don't have time to date right now." The brunette says nudging Jeongguk a little. "Namjoon's my friend, one of my best friends actually."
"Whatever." The ravenette says, looking away as he rolls his eyes yet again. "I wish you'd stay, it's late."
"It's only eleven-thirty. I don't live too far." Taehyung says. "Why? Are you worried about me, Jeon Jeongguk?"
"I'm just trying to make your life easier." Jeongguk says with a shrug. "But if you feel the need to rush off to Namjoon then go right ahead. I won't stop you."
Taehyung's mouth drops open in shock, a smile forming on his face. "You're seriously jealous? Of Namjoon?"
"What? No. I don't even know the guy." The older says grabbing his and Taehyung's bowls from the take out they ordered Standing and taking them to the kitchen.
"Don't worry about Namjoon, I've know him since I was fourteen." Taehyung says standing as well and grabbing their cups. "He's just a friend."
"You don't have to explain anything to me." Jeongguk says dismissing the topic as he throws their trash away. Taking the glasses from Taehyung to rinse them.
"Why do you really want me to stay tonight?" The brunette asks leaning by the sink as the older rinsed their glasses, earning a questioning glance from him. "I left late last night and you didn't ask me to stay. Is something wrong?"
Jeongguk's expression changes so drastically that it's almost impossible for Taehyung to miss it. His brows knit together and his lashes flutter, his mouth setting in a hard line.
"Jeongguk?" Taehyung says, suddenly genuinely worried. "What's wrong~"
"Nothing." The ravenette says drying his hands. "I'll walk you out if you aren't staying."
"Okay." The brunette says, his sulking a bit at his dismissal. "But you're worrying me now. You look...scared or something."
Jeongguk chuckles, shaking his head. "Come on, Taehyung, don't be ridiculous. Scared of what?"
Taehyung pouts softly. "I don't know."
"I'll walk you out." The ravenette says, offering a small smile. "Don't worry about me, seriously. I'm fine."
"Okay." The brunette smiles back as he goes to grab his phone and keys.
Jeongguk walks him down to his car. "I'll see you on Monday for the appointment. Week eight, right?"
"Yeah. Week eight." Taehyung sighs as he unlocks his door and gets in. "I'll see you on Monday."
"Alright. Text me when you get home." The ravenette says. "Let me know you made it."
"Okey dokey." The brunette chuckles as he closes the door, waving to Jeongguk as he starts the car and drives off.
Taehyung sighs as he drives away, looking at Jeongguk through the side mirror as he goes.
He felt good about all this, he really did.
~The next day...~
"This is the second time you've came in late, Taehyung."
"That doesn't mean anything."
Namjoon sighs heavily, his eyes rolling in frustration. "You obviously like him."
"Of course I like him, I'm having his kid." Taehyung says pointing at his stomach. "We both agreed to keep things neutral for right now."
"Why? If you both like each other?" The older asks. "It doesn't make sense."
"You haven't even met him." The younger laughs as he tears open a bag of chips. "He's sweet, and he wants to be in the baby's life. That's the only reason we're in each other's lives right now."
"Right." Namjoon nods.
"I can't believe I'm being more levelheaded than you right now." Taehyung says as he stuffs a chip in his mouth.
"I was just wondering if maybe life would be easier for you and the baby if you guys were together. But I get where you're coming from."
"I don't know him, Namjoon. All I know is that he's good in bed, and that doesn't make for a healthy relationship." The younger says. "And he's kind of closed off about his life. He's not on good terms with his parents and he works some imaginary desk job."
"So you won't date him because you're judgey?" Namjoon asks.
"Judgey?" Taehyung says in offense. "I am not judgey. He's just mysterious. And he has tattoos, what kind of job allows him to have tattoos?"
"Literally any job...ever?" The older says. "Face it, Tae. You're judgey."
"If I was judgey I wouldn't have slept with him in the first place." The younger says, still trying to defend himself. "I can't believe you think I'm judgey."
"I was just trying to work you up. You aren't." Namjoon says rolling his eyes. "But I think you're doing the right thing by not rushing into a relationship. He is pretty much a stranger."
"Thank you." Taehyung nods, his phone pinging with a message.
"Who's that?" Namjoon asks, only because it was well past midnight.
"Jeongguk." The brunette says. "He's just responding to me telling him I got in alright."
Namjoon smirks at him knowingly. "Is he?"
Taehyung looks up and Namjoon's expression makes him roll his eyes. He chucks a pillow at him. "Shut up! It's not like that."
"Whatever you say." The older chuckles. "Anyways, I'm sorry about your mom."
"Don't worry about it." Taehyung says with a sad smile, shrugging like he didn't care even though he obviously did. "She doesn't have to be in the baby's life. Or mine, actually."
Namjoon returns Taehyung's small smile, knowing that the brunette was mostly saying that to make himself feel better.
That night Taehyung doesn't sleep well. Maybe it's because of his argument with his mother, or maybe it's because he can't stop thinking about where his life is going to go from this point on.
Either way when his alarm goes off to start his online class he's absolutely miserable.
He has to force himself out of bed to get his laptop and his backpack, wanting nothing more than to sleep for a few more hours.
He's in the middle of his final class when he starts to feel sick. Nausea washing over him out of nowhere.
"No." The brunette groans closing his eyes. "Please, not today. It's not a good day for this."
But of course despite his begging, his body didn't give a shit.
Taehyung gets sick throughout the rest of the morning, not even bothering to leave the bathroom at one point.
His phone rings against the counter as he sits on the edge of the tub holding his head in his hands. He sighs as he stands to grab it, not bothering to check who's calling. "Yes?"
"Taehyung, where the hell are you?" Jeongguk's voice comes from the other line. "It's Monday, did you forget about the appointment."
Taehyung's eyes widen as he pulls the phone from his ear to check the time, cursing under his breath as he rushes out of the bathroom to get dressed. The appointment completely slipped his mind.
"Taehyung?" He hears Jeongguk say from his phone.
"Yes? I'm coming." The brunette says ending the call before calling a car to take him to the doctor. He was in no position to drive on top of his nausea and exhaustion.
He throws on the first thing he sees and rushes out of the apartment, ignoring the look he gets from Namjoon on the way out.
Jeongguk stands outside waiting for him when he gets there. "What happened?"
"I'm sorry. I was in a class, then I got sick, and the appointment completely slipped my mind." The younger says as he shoves a piece of gum in his mouth. "Let's just get this over with."
"Are you sure you're okay? You don't look so good." The older says, taking in the brunette's disheveled appearance.
"Oh well, I'm sorry if I look like shit, Jeongguk. I also feel like shit, do you have something to say about that too?" Taehyung says, his forehead creasing in aggravation as he walks past the ravanette. "And why didn't you wear a normal shirt?"
Jeongguk stands frozen in place for a moment, his expression confused as he looks down at the plain black t-shirt he was wearing. "A normal shirt?"
"Come on, Jeongguk." The younger says impatiently from inside. "What are you waiting for?"
"I'm right behind you." The older says following him in. "And I wasn't saying you looked like shit, I was just~"
"Please just, shh." Taehyung says holding his finger to his lips as he approaches the counter. Giving his name and appointment time to the receptionist before they take a seat in the waiting room.
Jeongguk keeps quiet as they sit, glancing over at Taehyung every now and then just to see if he was still in his mood. The younger sits with his head in his hands, his eyes closed as he takes slow breaths.
Jeongguk hesitates as he places a hand on Taehyung's back, expecting him to snap at him again. Instead he feels the younger's shoulder relax under his touch, a tense breath escaping his lips.
"I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings." The ravanette says. "I wasn't trying to."
Taehyung shakes his head, covering his face with both his hands. "I know."
"Are you crying?" Jeongguk asks when he hears the strain in Taehyung's voice.
"No." The brunette says, very obviously crying. "I'm sorry I'm in a crappy mood. I don't care that you wore that shirt."
Jeongguk looks down at his shirt again. What the hell was wrong with his shirt?
"I just really don't feel good." Taehyung continues. "I shouldn't take that out on you."
"No, it's fine. If you can't take it out on me, who are you gonna take it out on?" Jeongguk chuckles trying to lighten the mood, earning a playful, teary-eyed glare from Taehyung.
"What would I ever do without you?" The brunette says sarcastically. Rolling his eyes as he dries them on his sleeves.
Jeongguk smiles a little as he starts to responds, Taehyung's name being called interrupting him. "Okay, let's do this."
"Okay." Taehyung sighs as he stands, trying to smooth his disheveled hair as they walk to the back.
The brunette has made a mental note of all his questions and concerns about his pregnancy, he just needed some answers about what he should be expecting.
Despite his morning sickness and his shitty mood, he was excited for the ultrasound.
