I love you, see you at home.
Taehyung crumbles the note in his hand, tossing it in the bin as he walks out of his room. He takes the elevator down with his bags, dropping his key off at the front desk. It was too early and too cold for anyone to want to be outside right now, but Taehyung had no choice. He needed to get back to Korea for the kids.
He's on autopilot the whole morning, his body moving on its own through the airport and onto his flight. He was exhausted, and quite honestly still drunk on all the emotions from last night. It felt like a distant memory, if someone told him it wasn't real he'd believe them.
The entire twelve hour flight home Taehyung's thoughts are going haywire. He didn't know where he and Jeongguk stood as of now. He didn't know if Jeongguk was pissed at him. He didn't know if they could move passed this.
He didn't know if they could just move on from all of this. Would he be able to look at Jeongguk the same now?
So much has changed in each of their lives since they first met. Taehyung thought he had seen every side of Jeongguk but he thought wrong, he hadn't. He's never seen the side of Jeongguk that killed a person without so much as a second thought. That Jeongguk, he's never seen that Jeongguk.
Deep down inside he wanted to be afraid. He wanted to distance himself from Jeongguk and he wanted to distance the kids. If he killed a person once, who's to say he won't do it again?
But the emotions he was feeling closer to the surface drowned his fear out almost completely. He was hurt, sad, angry, and a lot of other things. But that didn't change the fact that he loved Jeongguk. He was in love with him and he felt wrong about it. He felt like he shouldn't love someone like him, but he did.
Last night it felt like nothing mattered but them. They didn't care about their argument, and they didn't care about any other problems hovering around them either. Just about each other. And Taehyung didn't want to burst that bubble and return to reality. He wanted to live in that bubble with Jeongguk forever. But that wasn't realistic.
He had to face reality head on, whether he wanted to or not.
~Jeongguk and Taehyung's house...~
Taehyung pulls into the driveway at around eight that night, exhausted and completely drained from the trip. He sits in his car for a while, trying to put on a brave face to hide the fact that he didn't want to be here.
When he finally does get out of the car he leaves his bags in the trunk, only carrying his wallet and phone inside with his keys.
When he gets inside he finds Jeongguk in the living room putting the kids toys into the toy box. The ravenette doesn't look up from where he's kneeling, tossing the toys carelessly into the box.
"Hey," Taehyung says, knowing if he didn't say something first nothing would be said at all.
"Hey," Jeongguk responds, he doesn't sound angry, just distant.
"The kids are down?" The brunette asks even though it was obvious that they were. He didn't know what else to say.
"Yeah." Jeongguk sighs, pushing the toy box under the coffee table so it's out of the way. "What?" He asks when Taehyung continues to stand there without saying anything.
"Nothing." Taehyung shrugs. "I was just hoping we could talk."
"We can, what is it?" Jeongguk asks sitting back on his heels.
Taehyung sighs as he sets his keys on the coffee table, kneeling down across from Jeongguk with his hands in his lap. "I'm sorry I hit you. I don't know why I did that, and I'm really sorry about it. It was wrong."
"It's alright, Taehyung. You were upset."
"That doesn't make it okay."
Jeongguk nods, looking away for a second. "Well, it's alright. I was being an asshole."
"You weren't entirely wrong." Taehyung says looking down at his hands. "I think I was more attached to Chiwon than I thought."
"So...did you love him?" Jeongguk asks cautiously. "It's okay if you did."
Taehyung shakes his head. "I know I didn't love him. It's just...I-I needed him for a while, and he was there. So I guess I just...I don't know, I guess I just mistook those feelings for something else. Even though he was horrible to me."
"I get that." Jeongguk nods. "That's totally understandable, Taehyung."
"I love you, Jeongguk. You're the only person I've ever loved, honestly." Taehyung says. "That's why I want this to work. I don't want to fight like we did yesterday."
"Taehyung~"
"And I know it's my fault, and I'm sorry." The brunette continues. "I shouldn't have gone to confront Jimin. It was stupid and impulsive."
"It wasn't the best decision, and I wish you would've at least told me what you were up to." Jeongguk says, chuckling dryly. "I was scared, and I freaked out more than I should have. The gun was too much~"
"Yeah the gun was too much~"
"In my defense~"
"You don't have have to defend yourself." Taehyung chuckles. "We both screwed up. I'll admit that I screwed up worse than you if we can move on and put this behind us."
"We can." Jeongguk nods, but his tone sounds like he still has more to say. "I just want to know what happened. What Jimin said happened, because I don't know either."
Taehyung realizes for the first time that maybe Jeongguk was just as in the dark as he was about this entire situation. All Jeongguk knew was that Chiwon tried to kill him and Jimin helped, he didn't know the details.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Jeongguk says when Taehyung doesn't respond.
"No, sorry, I zoned out." The brunette says shaking his head. "Jimin told me that Chiwon stopped him outside of work one day and asked him to help set you up. He said no but Chiwon kept pushing apparently. He said Chiwon manipulated him and made him feel like he had no choice. But he did have a choice, he just did what he wanted and things got out of hand."
"What do you mean he manipulated him?" Jeongguk asks in confusion. There was a part of him that didn't want to hear any of this. A part of him that wanted to go on pretending that Jimin had nothing to do with this. That Jimin just wouldn't do anything like this.
"Chiwon pretty much just convinced him that we didn't give a shit about him anymore and gave him a shit-ton of money so he could quit his job." Taehyung says rolling his eyes. "I kept asking for a legitimate reason and he couldn't come up with one."
"That doesn't sound like Jimin." Jeongguk says looking down at his hands. "We ended on bad terms, but they weren't bad enough for him to want me dead. At least I don't think."
"I don't know." Taehyung shrugs. "I don't even know what I expected him to say...I guess I was still trying to give him the benefit of the doubt."
"Me too, honestly." Jeongguk says looking up at Taehyung. "Thanks for leaving the country in my defense, but let's not make this a thing. Okay?"
"No more leaving the country in your defense, noted." Taehyung nods. "All good?"
"All good." Jeongguk smiles, raising his hand for a high-five.
"We're high-fiving now?" Taehyung chuckles as he high-fives the ravenette, leaning towards him for a kiss.
Jeongguk meets him half way, smiling softly as he kisses him briefly before pulling away. "I love you."
"I know, I love you too." The brunette says kissing Jeongguk again, deepening the kiss and bringing his right hand to the nape of the ravenette's neck.
Jeongguk hums into the kiss, leaning forward more as their lips moved together in perfect sync. He's reluctant to pull away but he does, earning a disapproving sigh from Taehyung. "Were you really not having sex with me because you were lying about Japan?"
"What?" Taehyung asks even though he heard him, it just takes his mind a second to catch up.
"I heard you talking to Seokjin through the baby monitor."
"Oh my god, I'm a fucking idiot."
"Was that the reason?" Jeongguk laughs. "Or was it something else? Was it me?"
"No, Jeongguk, it wasn't you." Taehyung says shaking his head. "I wanted to have sex it just felt wrong when I was keeping secrets. Especially after I agreed to no secrets."
"So we're both equally as...pent up?"
"Extremely pent up, yes."
"Well, in that case," Jeongguk says standing up, pulling Taehyung with him. "We should move upstairs."
"You're so ridiculous, I love it." Taehyung chuckles as he kisses him again.
"Mm," The ravenette hums, kissing Taehyung passionately as he maneuvers towards the couch. Sitting down while simultaneously pulling Taehyung onto his lap.
Taehyung breaks the kiss first. "What happened to upstairs?" He asks breathlessly with an amused smile.
"Screw it," Jeongguk says, kissing him again with the same passion and lust.
Taehyung doesn't question him any further, he just smiles and goes along with it. He couldn't even begin to imagine wanting to be anywhere but here. This is all he wanted, to be here with Jeongguk.
And he could genuinely say that, in this moment, he was happy.
