Ch.1 - Blastoise's return!

A kingdom of Berron faraway, surrounded by a twelve foot brick wall that has been known to protect those from the inside. Well, almost everyone.

A girl named Brionne gazed at the wall with amazement as she became distracted from what she came into town for. The town was busy today. That upcoming event at the guild Hall that nobody wouldn't shut up about.

In the midst of such preparations, about to approach further to the gates, her mother, Primarina, caught her before she could do anything.

Primarina: Oh, Brionne? Where do you think you're going?

Her mother looked in a rather sternly way whilst carrying two bags. Brionne just sighed and turned around in defeat.

Brionne: Hey, mother. Haha.

Primarina: Oh, honestly. What did I tell you about the wall?

Brionne: It keeps harm out of it and protects me. I know. I guess I was just thinking about what it would be like to have that amount of freedom.

Primarina: You know it's for the good of us all. Now, how about you help me with-

Completely cut off by a sudden cheer of many of the townsfolk, both of them watched as the girls ran towards the gate as it opened.

Primarina: What's going on?

Brionne: *sweat drop* I think I might have an idea.

In the midst of the crowd, Blastoise, who just came back from hunting, began showing off.

Blastoise: Yes, yes! I've missed you too.

One by one, all the girls started squealing, and Brionne just rolled her eyes at his obnoxious behaviour.

Blastoise: That's right, I'm back! And I give you my unmatched charm and wait for it!

Blastoise then threw his sacks of gold into the air, letting all the gold fall to the ground. The crowd went chanting his name as he took a few bows.

Blastoise: Thank you, thank you! Haha!

Primarina: My, what a charming and generous young man! That's for you, sweetie.

Brionne just shook her head and made her way home. Blastoise looked ahead of him and stopped throwing gold around just to look at Brionne.

Altaria: This is all very charitable of you, Blastoise, but aren't you worried about giving it all away like this? What about you?

Blastoise: No need! Why, I believe I found my treasure already.

Altaria: Oh! M-Me? Why, thank you.

Cutiefly: No way! He was totally referring to me.

Kirlia: Both of you are wrong! He was talking about me!

As the girls were arguing amongst themselves, Blastoise's loyal friend, Lycanroc, came out from behind and nudged his shoulder.

Lycanroc: Uh, which girl were you referring to, Blastoise?

Blastoise: *smirk* Someone whose treasure is too priceless to be shared. I'll make Brionne my wife!

Lycanroc: Woah, haha! Do you mean the daughter of that rich farmer? You must be joking! That man's almost as crazy as you are.

Blastoise: *angry* Who are you calling crazy?! Crazy father or not, she will be mine! After all, I deserve the best of the best. Don't I?!

Lycanroc: Of course you do, sir! Haha. You're the man!

Blastoise: Yes. The man who will sweep her off her feet. Hahaha!

Lycanroc: Hahaha!

Blastoise: Okay, that's enough.

As Primarina and Brionne made it back to the mill on her family's farmland, she helped carry her mother's shopping. However, her two twin younger Oshawott brothers began running around, playing with mud and throwing it everywhere. One of them aiming at her sister's dress.

Brionne: Ah!

Primarina: *sternly* Boys?

Oshawott 1: What? He started it?

Brionne: I don't care who started it! *sigh* Now I've gotta change my clothes.

Oshawott 2: We can make you a new one?

Oshawott 1: Yeah! It's called mud attack!

Brionne: *groans* Why I outta!

Primarina: *sigh* I'll deal with them. You go in and take the shopping in.

Brionne did as she was told and stepped into the house, placing the shopping on the table. However, her father looked to be busy organising his seed collection.

Samurott: Ah! Brionne. You're back. What happened to you?

Brionne: *sweat drop* Double trouble.

Samurott just chuckled a bit before resuming his task.

Samurott: I heard Blastoise is back from his trip?

Brionne: Everyone knows by now, father. The guy's been everywhere. Even outside the walls of where I'm constantly being guarded.

Samurott: I understand your issue, sweetie. However, I can't have you wandering off. For one thing, I have a farm to run, and we'll be in for one heck of a ride once that blizzard hits, so I'm gonna need your help even more.

Brionne: Hm.

Samurott: And number two, finding yourself in those hills will mean trouble. In fact, some who journeyed through there didn't find their way back. For what reason, I know not. Which is why I think Blastoise would make a great protector and husband for you.

Brionne: Oh father, no. I can't.

Samurott: Why not? He seems generous?

Brionne: *mumbles* A little too generous if you ask me.

Samurott: And he's crossed through those hills on his expeditions! He has experience, sweetie. Plus, it will keep our family business going once you take over the farm one day.

Brionne: Blastoise is... something else, but I don't feel complete when I'm with him. I mean, sure? He has experience hunting and... protecting? But he isn't for me. If anything, he's more greedy than anyone I've ever met?

Samurott: Well, we don't have a lot of time. The farm is in need of two hardworking individuals who will keep business booming until the next generation, and the next, and the next, and the next.

Brionne: Oh, I know that. I guess if I do end up falling in love, I'd want it to be for the good. I... want to make the right choice, father, and Blastoise isn't one of them.

Samurott: *sigh* It's not like I can force you, but it's only a suggestion. Me and your mother won't be around forever, and you are old enough to make your own decisions, but promise me you won't journey outside these walls. They are to protect us from harm's way.

Brionne: Don't worry. I won't.

Samurott: Excellent! Now then. How do you feel about helping your father with a little digging?

Brionne: Yeah! I'll be out soon!

As her father made his way out with a large shovel, Brionne looked at the seed collection and realised there wasn't any hydrangea seeds.

Brionne: Huh? Mother! We forgot to get some hydrangeas! I'm heading back into town!

Primarina: Alright, but hurry back!

Journeying through the town again, Brionne decided to do some shopping of her own to hopefully put something down on the dinner table this evening. However, she could hear Blastoise's voice again. He looked to be telling his adventure stories as the girls listened.

Brionne: Oh no. Him again?

Blastoise: And there I was. As the one who was so experienced in war, how could I let him die like that?

Cutiefly: Were you scared?

Blastoise: If by scared, you mean, never coming home to see pretty angels like you again, then yes. I was.

Vulpix: *sigh* How romantic...

Upon recognition, his eyes perked up as he saw Brionne standing near a stall and gazing at the potted plants.

Blastoise: And speaking of pretty angels. Excuse me, ladies, I must tend to something important.

Blastoise stood up and approached Brionne with a big smirk and straightening his collar.

Kirlia: He always tends to something...

Vulpix: *sigh* If only that girl was me...

As Brionne looked at her shopping list, she was waiting on her plant seeds. She loved growing her own flowers and tending to her father's patches but found herself in a bit of a pickle.

Brionne: Oh no, they don't have any hydrangeas? That's a shame. I wonder if they have any yellow tulips?

Blastoise: How about a rose? I hear they're blooming lovely this year?

As he pulled out a red rose, still with the thorns, she grew somewhat concerned for his fingers.

Brionne: Uh, your hands are...

Blastoise: *tearing up* Yep! I know. Anything for that special someone.

Brionne reached for the rose, avoiding any thorns that would prick her fingers. She looked at him, pretending that she didn't know who he was referring to.

Brionne: Uh, who is it?

Blastoise: Why, it's you, of course!

Brionne: How flattering.

Blastoise: So, can I join you this evening?

Brionne: For what?

Blastoise: For dinner. I'm sure your father would be thrilled to have me join you?

Brionne: He hasn't said anything about you coming to dinner?

Blastoise: Well, he seemed thrilled about it the minute I asked him?

Brionne just looked at him in confusion. Did her father put him up to it? More importantly, why did her father think that just because he was an excellent hunter, she would be better protected? If anything, it wouldn't feel beneficial for her. She can protect herself. She couldn't help but feel angry.

Brionne: I'm not interested, and in case you haven't realised, I'm not interested in anything you have to say!

Blastoise: That hurts, but I know exactly what you're after.

Brionne: You... do?

Blastoise: But of course! If you're thinking about getting away from here, we can do so right this very minute, start our own lives together, and live a very long, happy life out of civilization. What do you say?

Brionne looked anxiously at the gate and hesitated a little. She wanted to see what was on the other side but wanted to do it alone. Not with an overly infatuated water hole.

Brionne: Uh... well...

Blastoise: I'll gladly sweet talk your father into allowing it, then you can have the freedom you're asking for, and once I have your father's blessings, we can get married. Then we'll both get what we want. The question is, are you in?

Brionne thought for a moment. As much as she didn't want to marry him, she didn't look to be having a choice. But anything is worth trying if it brings her one step closer to leaving the kingdom's walls.

Brionne: No, leave me alone!

Blastoise: Don't pretend that you don't show any sort of love for somebody like me, Brionne.

Brionne: No, the only reason why you want to marry me is because of your happiness, not for anyone else! Now, if you would excuse me, I must resume buying.

Blastoise: Alright then. Have it your way, sweetheart. I guess you don't want to know what lies within Berron Hills?

Brionne: Huh? What, you've been beyond the walls?

Blastoise: Far beyond your wildest imagination. You want to go, don't you?

Brionne: Uh...

She looked to the hills, feeling slightly hesitant for going as she didn't want her father to worry. She really wanted to go, but wanted to go by herself. Not with the hands of someone else. However, by the looks of things, she didn't really have a choice.

Brionne: *sigh* Okay. I'll... marry you.

Blastoise: Oh, Brionne! I thought you'd never ask! You have made me so happy. Which reminds me, I better practice my speech if I want to sweet talk your father if you know what I mean.

Brionne: *sweat drop* Uh huh?

Blastoise: *ahem* Samurott! I wish to marry your daughter! No, that sounds too forward. Samurott? I felt it was my duty to come to you this evening and pledge my- no.

As he began walking away from her, he kept reciting his speech.

Blastoise: Or how about this? Samurott! I pledge myself into marrying your daughter because I am amazing. Yes, that's a good one!

Brionne just sighed and shook her head in disbelief.

Belossom: Um, excuse me, miss?

Brionne: Huh?

Belossom: I don't mean to sound rude, but could you pick what you want and then get out of here? You're holding up the queue.

Brionne looked in front of her and realised the line she was creating and quickly grabbed her seeds.

Brionne: Oh, I'm sorry!

Belossom: No worries! Say, isn't Blastoise such a darling? You must be so lucky!

Brionne: *mumbles* Lucky isn't where I'd put it.

Belossom: Yup. You must be so lucky to earn his affection like that. So, when's the wedding?

Brionne just groaned and began sulking as she crouched towards the floor, covering her face with embarrassment, having had enough of everyone's stupidity.

Surely it couldn't get any worse, right? Right?
