I follow Newt close behind as we go to building. We enter the room and I immediately spot Gally glaring at me.. This is going to be fun.

A boy stands up, ready to speak to everybody. Newt turns to me and whispers "That's Alby, our leader. He's gonna decide where you're going to work."

Newt has already told me about all of the jobs, most of them sound boring except for one. Being a runner.

Alby speaks up and looks directly at me "You will try out all the jobs until we work out which one is best for you. No complaining or moaning, whatever job we decide your'e best at will be the job you're doing for the rest of your time here."

Great, so now I have mini trials on each job. I say to Alby "I want to be a runner."

I hear sniggers from most of the boys an murmurs about how ridiculous that would be.

I turn around and see Newt staring at me in anger, why doesn't he want me to be a runner?

Gally interrupts "you can't be a runner! You're a girl, shuck face.. Incase you didn't realize!" I sink down in my seat.

I look over at Newt, who seems like he couldn't care less about Gally's statement.

Isn't he gonna stand up for me at all? He's second in command, his opinion would override Gally's.. But why is he not doing anything about it?

The gathering was quickly over and I go back to my sleeping bag, just sitting there trying to comprehend what the hell just happened.

I can't believe Newt didn't stand up for me at all! I know that Newt isn't too fond of Gally anyway, so why didn't he shut that shuck face up when he had the chance.

I quickly come back to reality as I hear a soft knock on the door. Newt's head peeps out, peering through the door. "Can I come in?" He asks.

I'm tired of fighting with him so I just nod my head. He comes and sits next to me on my sleeping bag, keeping a distance though so that he doesn't annoy me further.

"I'm sorry about Gally, but in some ways he is right.." Newt says in a whisper. "You agree with him?" I fire back, getting angry.

Newt looks around the room, while trying to think of a way to answer my question.

He finally answers "I don't want you going into that maze, it's no place for someone as sweet and gentle as you. And if god forbid you have an accident, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself knowing that I was the one that allowed you in there in the first place."

I feel my face go red as Newt leans in closer before quietly whispering "I care about you so much, whenever I'm with you, you always seem to find a way to make me smile. You make me happy y/n" before I can comprehend everything he just said his lips press into mine.
