Trapped
Mac pulled on her brown fur coat and and quietly sneaked out of 'Dark Hole', looking here and there like a meercat, making sure that no one had seen her.
What a strange, freaky name for a noisy and lively place like that. She thought to herself.
The atmosphere was engulfued by thick fog and it was almost pitch dark outside. A few dim streetlamps were glowing weakly, struggling to shine some light through the fog. The road was wet and slightly slippery with rain water and there was no sign of anyone at all. Not even night owls or bats. It was completely silent and peaceful, but ironically that was what made the surroundings feel so haunting and eerie. 'Jesus, wasn't it enough that I escaped from 'Dark Hole' with great difficulty and am freezing in the cold air, biting through my bare legs, that now I also have to worry about whether somebody's here.' Mac thought.
Arm starting to ache with the weight of the heavy, leather bag that she had been holding, Mac switched it to her other hand and carrying it with one hand, stumbled forwards until she found a bench.
The bench was covered with a fine, wet layer of mist and Mac wipped clean the area of the bench where she was going to sit and dropped onto it, throwing the leather bag on the bench, beside her. She wrapped the ends of her coat around her cold legs and rubbed and blowed warm air in her hands, trying to warm herself.
" Dear God, what have I involved myself into?". She whispered to herself and a cloud of frosted breath escaped her mouth.
She punched the leather bag with her fist, angrily and kicked it down on the ground in frustration.
" How? How the hell could I fall for this!". She exclaimed in anger and threw her head back, so she was looking up at the dark, hazy sky.
A sound of soft, slow treading shoes, coming closer, caused her to immediately jerk her head up. She instantely got up and picked up the leather bag.
" What a surprise to see you here all alone in the street, enjoying the weather, when I had given you a responsibility and some work to do!" His raised by every fourth word. 'How on earth did he know that I was here. Had he been following me all along?' Mac thought to herself.
" Look, I can explain. Stay calm." She said, holding out a hand in a 'back-off' gesture, getting tense.
"Give me, that." The tall man wearing a long, black coat and a hat shadowing his face, snapped, snatching the leather bag from Mac's grip.
" Yes, you can take it. I was going to return it to you anyways, because I couldn't do it. The task you gave me was too difficult and dangerous for me." She quickly said, stepping back. " I'm sorry".
" Shut up, you disappointing woman! You are useless." The man roared and Mac jerked back in fear. Her body was trembling, forehead cringed, heart pounding heavily. That man when enraged, could do anything to her.
He reached down in his pockets and started searching for something inside. Mac's heart beat shot up like a bullet rain taking off, throbbing in her chest, as she felt electrical jolts spark up across her spine.
" Look, I gave your money back or rather you just snatched them away from me and in return, you leave me alone, now. Okay? Just pretend, this never happened." She quickly said, trying to delay whatever the man was about to do.
" This is not as simple as you think, Miss.Good-for-Nothing. I'm sorry to say, whether you return me my money or not, I can't let you go like this. You know my huge secret, now. You can leak it to the bloody cops and get me imprisoned." He smirked.
" What? But I don't even have any proof."
" Who knows. You might be hiding any photos, recordings, et cetera."
" No. I swear on my soul, that I don't have any kinds of proofs. You have got to trust me, please." Mac swore. She only had the slightest idea of the man's intentions.
" Oopps. Too late for all that. You have disappointed me and wasted my time." He casually said.
" I'm very sorry. Please let me go, I beg you." Tears started to well in her eyes.
" You were going to die, anyways." The man smiled.
" What?! I can't believe you. All this time that I worked so hard for you, risking my life doing this, and in the end you were just going to kill me? You're so disgusting and a terrible, awful man, you know! I shall always remember this till the moment you kill me". Mac exclaimed in shock and disgust, but still frightened inside.
He didn't say anything, but took out a shimmering, metal object which she didn't get a chance to see clearly. The next thing Mac heard was nothing but a thunderous BANG!!!
Suddenly, something small and shiny rapidly whizzed towards her, piercing through the misty air and then through her very skin. The moment the tiny object came in contact with her skin, a fiery sensation dominated her body. Colours began to fade away from everything and before she could understand what had just happened, everything plunged into darkness.
