After all that went down, what else did I expect? That Omoniyi would give me a pat on the back and kiss my forehead after ruining the entire party by almost murdering someone's child in cold blood? Of course not.

It was a matter of seconds before everybody rushed upstairs, catching me red handed with a half broken bottle in hand and Jerry lying in a pool of blood and tiny glass pieces. Not that I was going to flee the scene anyway.

"Shebi you want to know what he thinks he is?"

"Better shut up before them break your own head."

Satisfaction.
I was totally satisfied to prove to these people that I wasn't to be messed with and that if any dares messes with ME, I would fuck them up so bad that they'd remember in their next five lives to come.

And only a matter of minutes before men and women dressed in white rushed upstairs with a big white box with a red Cross on it, tending to Jerry's wounds.

I was here sitting in the office of the DPO of the police department for the Lekki police station, on the edge of my seat as I awaited his arrival.

And as two hefty men dressed in black trooped into the room, I know he was already here.

One.

Two.

Thr-

He walked into here in all his glory, each footstep echoing as result of the silence that came from God knows where. Andrew Eze Chika, my father.

Settling down on the chair beside me, the DPO bowed his head in greeting and he raised his right hand as a sign of acknowledgement. Crazy tinz.

"Sir, your son was-" he had barely begun when he was cut off by my father's right hand in the hair again but, this time asking for silence. E shock you?

"Would this be enough?" And he didn't have to do anything before one of the body guards stepped forward, dropped a black suitcase on the table, opening it and revealing it's content. "One million naira." He said and the DPO just sat there staring at the suitcase before him. "I think this is where I take my leave. Ikenna?" And I didn't need anyone to spell it out for me. I stood up and walked behind my father as we were accompanied by the hefty body guards walking patiently behind us.

We got to the parking lot and I spotted the black venza that belonged to my father and two black Range Rovers that were to be occupied by the bodyguards. One of them opened the door and patiently waited for Andrew Eze Chika to ever so carefully get in.

Immediately I sat down, leaving space that could contain another person between us, he asked the driver to excuse us.

One beat.

Two beats.

Three beats.

My heart skipped three beats as I sat in a very tight space with my father, the tinted windows rolled up so, no one could see what was going on inside. Today may as well be my last day on earth.

I swallowed.

Hard.

"Ikenna, would you like to explain?" I shuddered at the sound of his voice. His voice was so hoarse that it'll go into your ears and even when he's done speaking, you continue to hear it like a broken record in your head. Deep and dark, probably even darker than darkness itself and it sent multiple chills down my spine, then back up, made goosebumps sprout over my skin. And no, not the good kind.

"I wouldn't like to repeat myself." It was an order but, for reasons unknown to me, I couldn't find my voice. It felt like his voice was pulling me into a dark world, and even though I was fighting really hard, struggling immensely, I was still being pulled against my will, deeper and deeper into the pit of darkness.

"Ike-"

"Dad I only thought him a lesson since he was trying to mess with me." I said in one breath before looking up to meet his gaze. And he wore an impassive look.

"Mess with you?" His impassive gaze now morphed into a scrutinizing one and I gulped, inaudibly. "Elaborate."

"I'm very sure you would have been way angry to find out that your son was beaten up mercilessly by a classmate and had been admitted to a hospital, because apparently–"

And he took the remaining words out of my mouth.

"That would mean my blood doesn't flow through your veins and our pictures would have been everywhere on the internet and that would be so bad for me. Next month is very important to me. The campaign." He said to me still and he was back to wearing an impassive look.
"Good job, Ikenna." He said without so much as a smile and called for the driver.

Few minutes later we arrived home and I went straight up to my room, throwing myself on the bed realising that the reason I went to that good for nothing party was not established.

"Fuck!"

I woke up to the continuous beeping of my stupid alarm clock. 7:30Am. What a way to start the day. I groaned as I dragged my body out of bed and into the shower against its will.

Minutes later, I was dressed in my school uniform; plain white long sleeved shirt, blue checked pleated skirt, blue checked long neck tie, my blazer draped over my shoulders, pure white knee high socks and black flat ankle boots.

7:50Am and the drive to school was at least twenty minutes. I groaned, picking my phone and bag up from the bed and heading downstairs to have breakfast.

I was welcomed by the aroma of toasts and hot chocolate and a smile subconsciously found its was to my lips. "Mummy, Good morning o!" I shouted immediately I got to the foot of the stairs but didn't get any reply. I walked into the kitchen and found her doing the dishes.

"Mummy!" I said in a sing song voice and he turned in my direction slightly, staring at me with a slight frown across her face. "Mummy," I cooed walking towards her wrapping my hands around her in a hug, expecting her to wiggle my hands away, but she didn't so, I continued. "I'm off to school since you won't offer me breakfast."

"I'm not offering you breakfast or you denied yourself of today's breakfast?" She deadpanned, displeasure clearly dripping in her tone. "Mummy, it's not my fault I don't wake up early na, my body is just so against me to be very honest." I said unwrapping my arms around her, moving to stand right beside her so that I could see her face properly.

"It's your fault you're always waking up late because, I don't understand how you want to sleep by 3am everyday and not wake up late." She was done washing the dishes and was now arranging them neatly on the rack. "It's because you don't understand that k-drama is life."

"So you're not concerned about your education? Peace first period starts 8:15, and this is already 8:03, meaning hopefully, if the traffic isn't hectic, you'll be able to get to school before 8:30, and you'll punish those juniors for late coming later on." In all honesty ehn, I am not mentally prepared for a lecture this early morning.

"Mummy, see you in the afternoon," I said as I started packing some toast into a paper bag hoping and praying that she lets it go, but as the world was against me nko?

"Madam drop that thing and go to school now!" She shot me a murderous glare. "Mummy na," I whined. Until this people kill me in this house. I can't remember the last time I ate breakfast before leaving for school.

"You know the rules. You wake up late, no breakfast!" She said dismissively and trust me, I tried arguing but it was all in vain.

The drive to school was the usual, people hawking on the busy streets of Lagos, hectic traffic jams that seemed to be never ending, and basically people just going about with their daily businesses.

By the time we drove into the school's gate, it was already 8:35Am, first period commenced five minutes ago. Walking straight to class, I heard those yeye SS1's and SS2's talking about me to themselves in whispers.

I don't know if this happens in other schools, but I'm one of those prefects who would show up very late to school and in their words, catwalk into the school's premises like the principal's child. The absurdity of that statement.

And as usual, I used the back door, which I felt was unnecessary but was built there for tardy people like me to sneak into the class while the new biology teacher was distracted, writing God knows what on the board. That woman won't miss an opportunity to completely ridicule someone's child in front of the class without batting her eyelids, at least that was what I've heard. All these yeye teachers.

I took my seat beside Toyo, muttering a 'hey' loud enough for her to hear but got no response. Weird.

"Hey you, why are you late? And who gave you permission to come in seff? And how did you get in seff?" She rapped out, her hands on akimbo and her eyes holding anger.

I didn't respond. She probably wasn't even talking to me.

"What's your name?" I still didn't answer.

"I'm talking to you." Still did answer.

"The girl with the with tattered hair."

"Ahan!"

"Eweeee."

"Eeeeei."

And that was all she has to say for me to look directly at her, my forehead creasing in a slight frown. Tattered hair ke?

"Ma, my hair is not tattered, they're are called dreads and they're supposed to look like that." I spoke with so much anger brewing from inside me.

"What's your name?" She asked and I rolled my eyes before answering.

"Peace. Peace Chineke." I replied.

"So Chineke, why were you late to my class ehn?" And I immediately regretted telling her my name in full.

"My name is Peace." I corrected her and she hissed. Yeye! It was how these teachers were hell bent on calling me Chineke no matter how many times I've repeatedly told them my name is Peace. Not Chineke but, they never listen. It is that they're waiting until I stab their eyes with pen one day ahbi? Okay na."I said why are you late?" She repeated her question. "Ma, there was traffic." I answered searching my bag for my biology notes.

"Get up!" And I looked up to now realise she was standing beside my table. Na wa o! I hesitated, but I eventually obeyed. "What's an ecosystem?" She fired and I fought the urge to groan out loud. This woman just resumed on Monday and is already disturbing my peace of mind, asking me questions on topics she herself didn't teach me. I already hate her!

"Ma, we just resumed on Monday, today is Wednesday and the first time we're attending biology classes this term, I can't remember the last time I saw my notes and I don't know how you expect me to tell you something I can't remember."

And yes that was the response I gave Mrs Wemimimo. And I thought my surname was absurd, Lmao!

"Leave my class now!" She said pointing ever so aggressively at the door. "With pleasure." And I left the class, making sure to slam the door so loud it resounded through the whole block.
