~29 - FINAL WARNING°

~Amarachi

The tests surely went smoothly, too smoothly even. I barely did any revisions and I know I aced.

The entire school had become so rowdy as students hung around everywhere in and out of the blocks, their noise threatening to bleed my ears. Ugh.

I've been looking around for Austin, I hadn't seen him in a while. I know he's in school because I could swear that I perceived his cologne this morning. But, he has been ignoring me. All my messages sitting in his dm with glaring blue ticks, and without a single reply.

I had called him a lot of times too, two hundred and seventy three times precisely, but they were all ignored. I figured the only way I'd get to talk to him was in school, physically.

And he appeared in front of me, causing me to halt my steps. He had a look of frustration etched across his face as he focused all his attention on the phone in his hand, as he walked of of the senior block, murmuring something to himself.

He was walking directly towards me, and I made no attempt to move out of his way.

He got closer, and I noticed that his curls were now hanging over his face, in dire need of a haircut. I liked the look on him, though.

"Not even a single call," I heard him mutter in frustration and a light wave of anger washes over me.

Whose call is he expecting? After deliberately ignoring mine?

"Audsley pisses me off every sing—" he bumped into me, the contact cutting the rest of his sentence short, and causing me to stumble two steps back.

He's bored, uninterested gaze meets mine, and his brows quirked up in... confusion? Question? I wasn't really sure. When I noticed he wasn't going to actually use his words, I sighed, fighting the urge to roll my eyes before speaking.

"Who's Audsley?" I ask, narrowing in my gaze on him, folding my arms across my chest.

"How many times do I get to tell you this?" I replied with a question of his own, causing my brows to furrow in confusion, my arms dropping to my sides.

"Tell me what?"

"That you don't get to ask me questions. Stop trying to act like you're important in my life," he spoke in an oddly calm an collected voice, the words rolling off his tongue smoothly like he didn't just shoot bullets at my chest.

Ouch.

"You can't talk to me like that," I raised my voice slightly, jabbing my index in his chest, his gaze following it's every movement, before moving back up to peer into my eyes.

"Touch me one more time, and I'll fucking snap your fingers," he said, sidestepping me to walk away, but I quickly took two steps back, moving to stand in his way again.

He let out a frustrated sigh, anger slightly etched across his face. But he said nothing.

"I've been texting you," I spoke again, bobbing my head to the side.

"Amarachi, please, get out of my way," it was anything but a plea. Dark brown orbs peered at me, his brows furrowed in what looked like anger.

But I wasn't fazed.

"And I've called you so many times," I continued like I never stopped. "But you did not deem it fit to even respond to my text or calls. Not even once," I took a step towards him, causing his height to tower over mine, and my head to crane up, so I could get a proper view of his face.

"It's not me and you that'll be acting zeeworld in this school," he spoke, turned around and walked the other way.

Livid is an understatement to how I felt as I watched him walk away.

When did we get to this?

Memories of when Austin used to crave my attention, touch and company dawned on me as hot tears burnt my eyes, threatening to spill over. Inhaling, I started walking to my class. I want to go home.

"Hey, Amarachi," she called, causing me to turn in the direction of her voice. A small smile played on her lips as she walked towards me—almost as slow as a snail—like either of us had all the time in the world.

My brows furrowed, my lips contorting to a frown when she eventually got to where I stood, the stupid smile still plastered across her face like someone born with the permanent smile deformity.

Normally, I disliked Toyosi. Now, I absolutely despise her.

Apparently, the whole school wouldn't shut up about how they've been seeing her and my Austin together, everywhere; the classrooms—empty ones even, the hallways, school clinic, the parking lot, and even the fucking bathrooms!

Oh, and let's not forget that she 'mistakenly' ended up at his house on the first day of school after the party, and fucking spent the night there. Gosh!

Oh and she happened to somehow maybe witness Austin calling me a 'friend with benefits'.

Honestly, I just wanted to slap her hard, and smash her head against a wall right there and then, but I'm not mad, so I'll pass.

"What do you want?" I asked, resting my weight on my left leg, blowing invisible dust off my nails, causing the model go give me a "Nawa o" look.

"Miss Atang wants to see you," she conveyed, turning around almost immediately and started to walk away.

"Wait," I called, and she stopped and turned around, placing a hand on her hip, and for the first time, I noticed her appearance.

Her natural curly hair was packed in two buns atop her head, with fringes falling over her face, almost covering her eyes. Her hair was wet, due to some kind of product she must have applied. It looked shiny, and I almost reached out to touch it. She had no make up on asides from the nude lip gloss that made her lips gleam under the lights that illuminated the hallways. Stud pearls graced her ears. Her uniform—totally unaltered—fitted her perfectly, highlighting her subtle curves. Her perfectly clean white shirt, skirt that stopped about two inches above her knee, and a perfectly knotted tie around her neck. She wore white socks that stopped a few inches below her knee, black heeled boots sitting pretty on her feet.

She looked somewhat like a Barbie doll—slim, effortlessly pretty—, I was pissed.

I dunno how she was able to look this pretty—not prettier than me, of course—without having to do too much and that was what continued to nag at me.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" Her stupid Nigerian-British accent drew me out of my dwam as I realized I probably had been staring at her.

"Yeah, uhm," I stuttered before remembering what I wanted to initially tell her.

Taking a step forward and wearing my fakest smile, I spoke, "It's just a warning, stay away from Austin."

She raised a brow, and I noticed how thick and beautiful her brows were, and no, she didn't line them.

"The fuck do you mean?" She feigned ignorance, squinting at me.

"Oh, please! Don't come acting like you don't understand, Toyosi! Just. Stay. The. Fuck. Away. From. My. Austin." I finished, my chest heaving as I glared at her.

Shaking her head with a scoff-like chuckle, she spun on her heels, walking away like I wasn't worth her time or attention.

A new wave of anger crashed into me. My blood boiled and my chest hurt physically. I let out an ugly groan, causing students in the hallway to stare at me, but they were the least of my problems.

I started to stomp towards the field. Miss Atang would be furious that I'm late for practice, but I could care less.

"You're late," she said immediately I walked in. "Again," she added, placing her hands on akimbo, tapping her left foot against the grass. She's upset.

"Uhm, I'm sorry, I had—"

"Save it," she interrupted my excuses. "I don't need to hear the never ending excuses," she raised a palm to my face, causing the other girls to snicker and murmur at the side.

"Let's get to practice girls!" She called out to the girls, clapping her hands, and the all took their positions, shaking the pompoms in their hands.

Today was surely one of a kind, I thought as I killed the engine of the after successfully parking it in front of the house. Grabbing my bag and the box of pizza I grabbed on my way home, I got down from the vehicle. My phone chimes and I retrieved it from my pocket, seeing that it was a message from the class group chat.

I hissed, tucking it away as I walked inside, closing the door behind me.

"Baby!" Mum shrieked, spreading her arms open and I ran in to hug her. Gosh! I missed her so much. Tears stung my eyes, blurring my vision. She and Dad have been gone for 6 months, leaving me all alone in this empty house.

"Mummy..." I cried out, tightening my hold around her neck, and she let me. She stroked my back, placing kisses on the side of my head as she continued to whisper "it's okay, baby".

After what felt like hours, I finally let her go.

"Did Dad come?" I asked, my eyes scanning the house for any trace of him.

"No, baby, he didn't," she said, her voice dropping below an octave.

"Oh," was all I could mutter as I walked past her, heading towards the kitchen. I was annoyed. They keep doing this, disappearing for months, then showing up for a few days before disappearing again.

Sighing, I open the fridge, bringing out a bottle of Fanta that I placed on the counter. I got a plate, placing two slices of pizza on them before grabbing my Fanta.

I turned to the door to see my mum watching me, a forlorn look marrying her face, as I walked past her, my arms slightly brushing against hers but she didn't say or do anything to stop me.

I got to my room, dropping my dinner on my reading table before turning to my vanity mirror. All the events of today flashed before my eyes, causing goosebumps to sprout across my skin. I gripped the vanity table for support as tears started to stream down my face.

In no time, my subtle crying morphed into uncle wailing as my legs gave up on the task of holding my body. I fell to the ground, curling into a ball as I bawled out my eyes.

Would things ever get better?
