Chapter 8

I hated not being able to do anything, and I was tired of not having any more powers. I was tired of Pitch's tricks, and all that I wanted was to be free and normal again.

Not only that, but I think I was dying. I felt like I was freezing my insides out. Long story short, I was really painful.

And I have no one to blame but myself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, the guardians came.
I was back in my cell, curled up in a ball and trying to stay warm. I felt so stupid, and the riddle kept re-playing in my head:
I have no wings, yet I can fly,
I am not dead, yet not alive,
I am cold, yet I am warm,
At times I am a reckless storm.
To get everything back that I desire,
There is one thing that I must acquire,
A thing only I will know,
For I had died so that they may grow.
It wasn't Elsa, I was sure of now. I was pretty sure that the first part was talking about me, and I had thought that the end was talking about Elsa. But if it wasn't her, then what was it?
Unless...
"Jack?"
I whipped my head up to see Jamie.
"J-Jamie?!" I asked. "W-What are you doing here? How'd y-you get down here?"
"The guardians came by my house, and said that you'd been taken," He smiled, putting a key in the lock and opening the door. "We found an entrance to lair not far from my house."
I slowly stood up, taking slow steps toward Jamie. He frowned. "Hey, what's up? You look...different."
"Trust me, I feel different," I shivered. "How do we get out of here?"
"The guardians gave me this," Jamie pulled out a snow globe. "I don't know what it does, but..."
I took the globe. "I do," I assured him. "Where are the other guardians?"
"Fighting Pitch," Jamie said. "I managed to sneak around him. The guardians told me that if I found you, we should just get out."
"B-but we can't j-just leave them!" I argued.
"You're shivering. Jack, are you sure that you're alright?"
"I know I'm not alright, but d-don't worry about it J-Jamie." I shivered again. "We have to get to the others."
"We can't."
"How do you know?"
"Because there's about 100 nightmares at the top of the stairs." Jamie pointed, and I followed his finger to the stairs. And what do you know, he was right. They snorted at us, but didn't attack.
"T-they want us to make the f-first move." I told him. I handed him the globe. "Whisper y-your address at the globe."
Jamie nodded and did so.
"Now throw it."
Jamie threw it and a portal opened up. As soon as it did, the nightmares screamed and began to charge. My eyes grew wide and I grabbed Jamie's arm, dragging him with me into the portal.
After that, everything went black.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I groaned as I opened my eyes. I heard the distant crackling of a fire, and I felt as though I was lying on a bed or something.

"Hey, Jack."

Jamie's fuzzy form came into my vision. I blinked twice, and then everything went back to normal. He had a small smile on his face. I groaned again and attempted to sit up, but a gust of both pain and cold went through my body and I fell back against whatever I was on.

"Easy..." Jamie said. "You hit your head pretty badly. I couldn't believe it when my Mom could see you, though."

"W-where-"

"My house."

I did a small nod, but even that hurt to do so I quickly stopped. "J-Jamie, there's something I ha-have to t-tell you."

Jamie nodded, and I began. I told him all about Pitch taking away my powers, the riddle, me seeing Elsa and her blasting me with her powers, about Pitch capturing me and how my heart was frozen and I was most likely dying.

"But you're not going to die, right?" Jamie asked. When I didn't answer, his voice cracked. "Right, Jack?"

"Jamie, please don't-Ahh!" I gasped as another spasm of cold washed through me, and I clutched the blanket tighter.

"Jack!" Jamie cried.

"Jamie, is everything alright?"

I looked at Jamie and nodded. He shouted back to his mom, "Yea, mom, everything is fine!" He then turned back to me. "What was that?"

"M-my heart is freezing." I shivered. "Q-quick, is a-all of m-my hair white?"

Jamie's eyes went to the top of my head. "Yea. Or at least, I think all."

"I've gotta find out this riddle fast." I rubbed my arms.

"Maybe I can help," Jamie said. "What was it?"

I repeated the riddle to him.

"Well, I suppose the first part is talking about you...and the second part should be the answer. A thing that only I will know, for I had died so that they may grow."

"I almost died for Elsa, once," I admitted. "That's why I had th-thought it was her."

"Well, who else?"

"W-who else?"

"Yea."

I thought hard. I don't remember ever dying for anyone else. Except...

"M-my sister," I said. "I-I died to save my sister."

"But that doesn't make any sense. I mean, we can't go to her, she should be dead, right? Sorry."

"N-no, it's okay. A-and you're r-right, we can't."

"So maybe it's something else..." Jamie sat still for a while, and the only sounds were of the fire crackling and my own breathing. Finally, he snapped his fingers and smiled. "I think I've got it."

"W-what?"

"Well, when you die for someone you care about, it's love, isn't it?"

I was quiet for a moment. "It's damn Disney all o-over again." But now that I thought about it, it made perfect sense. My eyes lit up. "J-Jamie, you're a g-genious!"

"Why, thank you." He said, smiling.

"It's just like w-with Elsa's p-powers! An act of t-true love will thaw a f-frozen heart!"

"So all that we need now is an act of true love! Got any crushes?"

"G-got any what?"

"Crushes." Jamie smirked.

"Sh-shut up."

"Oh, come on Jack! This is serious! Do you?"

"W-well..."

"Who?"

"Um..."

"Who?"

"J-Jamie..."

"Who?"

"W-will you shut up for a s-second! Y-you're not making th-this any easier!"

Once Jamie was quiet, I took a deep breath and said, "I-I may ha-have a small c-crush on..." I mumbled.

"I didn't hear that Jack."

I rolled my eyes. "E-Elsa, okay?! H-happy now?"

"I knew it!" Jamie shouted, throwing his hand in the air. I rolled my eyes. "So all that we need to do is find her and get her to kiss you!"

"W-wait, what?!"

"Let's go!" Jamie took my arm and threw it over his shoulder, and I got up, my knees wobbling. "Lean your weight on me..."

"Very clever, child..."

I looked up and around. "P-Pitch..."

"Indeed, that is what the riddle meant. I had thought that you would have gotten it sooner, but I guess not." Pitch smiled.

"What h-have you done with th-the other guardians?" I demanded.

"They're taking a short nap. Along with the rest of the neighborhood. But I can't let you win, can I, Jack? So I'll just have to take away you're support..."

Suddenly, Jamie disappeared from my side, and I fell to the ground in a heap. Pitch laughed, and I heard Jamie cry, "Let me go!", when Pitch ran out the door.

"JAMIE!" I cried, trying to get to my feet. I rushed with all of my might, practically throwing myself at the door to get it open. Once it was, I fell to the ground, breathing heavily. "JAMIE!"

"PITCH!"

I think that I almost had a heart attack.

I looked around to see a figure pursuing Pitch. And I'd recognize them anywhere.

Elsa.

She threw her hand up in the air, and suddenly a giant snow storm formed, snow blowing in my face. I slowly got up, trying to make my way through the storm to find either Jamie or Elsa.

"ELSA!" I screamed as loudly as I could. "JAMIE!"

But I didn't get any answer.

I shivered, trying to keep warm. The storm that Elsa had created didn't help my condition, but I tried to make it through, hoping to find someone. I could only hope that I'd make it through. Manny, I thought. If you can hear me, I could really use your help.

But there was still nothing.

My hands started to hurt, so I raised them up to look. Ice was spreading over them, and they started to turn blue. "No..." I muttered. I raised my head again, taking some more steps.

"Elsa! Jamie!" I called, weaker this time.

I was running out of time.

HAHAHAHAHA! I don't feel that bad...

Yea, I know, it's like Frozen...but I hope that you guys liked it anyways!

Until the next chapter,
