Chapter 3

It was rather boring, being at the pole by myself.

Well, I tried to entertain myself. And that ended up pretending I was a Disney Princess and singing. Which I found out that I am horrible at. I tried to be my old friend Elsa and sing, "Let it Go," but that failed miserably. I have proved to myself and the world I will never be a singer.

I gave a little sigh as I leaned back in the chair I was sitting in, looking closely at my staff. Why you no have any more powers? I questioned in my mind. Of course, it didn't answer. I looked up at the moon that was shinning brightly, but it didn't offer any help.

"You know, you don't have to stay quiet," I said. "You can talk. I don't mind you saying anything to me. Anything. Honestly." To prove my point, I crossed my fingers over my heart. But apparently my promises didn't work because it just didn't answer. I was getting pissed with Manny.

I frowned at him, before getting up out of the chair and starting to walk over to the window. I sat, looking out. Seeing all of the snow made my heart ache, and at that moment there was nothing that I wanted to do more than just go and fly.

Why did this happen? I thought. Why me? Out of all the guardians? Actually, that was a stupid thought, Jack, you know why. Yea, but I don't understand why I don't have powers. You think I know the answer to that question?! I was hoping. Jack, I am you, so there-

Now I'm talking to myself. Great, as if my situation couldn't get any worse.

I rested my head against the window, looking out as the snow. I really wanted to go out there, but I knew that I couldn't because 1) I would freeze my butt off, and 2) Phil will stop me before I can come within 20 feet of the exit. That guy was watching me like a hawk.

"Oh when, oh when, will the others get back?" I asked myself. I mentally slapped myself. Don't talk to yourself, Jack.

I took my head off the window and laid it back on the stone wall behind me. I closed my eyes and began to drift off, in hopes that I could get some sleep.

I woke up lying in in a nice bed.

Rubbing my eyes, I sat up and looked around. I must have been in one of North's spare rooms. I got up and walked down the hall. As I went past North's study, I heard people talking. And it seemed like they were arguing. Confused, I positioned myself next to the door and began eavesdropping.

"Pitch knows how to give it back?"

"Did you not hear what he said? Wasn't it some sort of riddle?" That was Tooth.

They were silent for a moment, witch meant that Sandy must have been making pictures. "Sandy's right," North boomed. "That riddle meant something, but it could be dangerous."

"Knowing Pitch, it is dangerous," Bunny said. "What was it he said exactly, again?"

"I do not have wings, yet I can fly,

I am not dead, yet not alive,

I am cold, yet I am warm,

At times I am a reckless storm.

To get everything back that I desire,

There is one thing that I must acquire,

A thing only I will know,

For I had died so that they may grow." Tooth recited.

"I have no idea what that means." Bunny said.

"Neither do I," Tooth sighed. "Perhaps Jack will know."

"No," North said. "It may mean something very bad. We shouldn't mention it to him. He just needs time right now."

My eyes were wide. I quickly went back to my room, careful not to make any noise. I knew what Pitch had meant. I knew how to get my powers back.

The one problem was, no one else was going to like what I was going to do.
