CHAPTER 02

CAMERON HAD BARELY GOTTEN BACK FROM WORK, setting Liam down on the couch when the neighbour/friend, Veronica, rushed through the door,

"Honey, we need to get ready!" The dark skinned woman rushed her towards her bedroom, "I laid out an outfit for you, go, go!"

"Okay, fine, mom, jeez." Cam grinned as she quickly went up the stairs.

She had just put on the tight black dress that Veronica had laid out when Fiona walked in, "Can I borrow your deodorant?" She asked, toothbrush in her mouth,

"Yeah." Cam grabbed the stick from her desk and tossed it at her, "Zip me up?"

Fiona paused from using the deodorant, zipping up Cam's dress, and Veronica came upstairs, "We need to go if we're going to get a ride to the club."

"Got it." Cam stated, rushing over and putting mascara on her lashes, "Do I smell like fried food?"

Veronica sniffed her and scrunched her nose, "You got any perfume?"

Cameron hummed, "I think the boys have Axe."

"Hey, five minutes." The darker skinned woman tugged on Fiona's tag that stuck out from her dress,

"No, this has got to go back tomorrow." She argued,

"I'll put it back on later. I have a tag gun at home." Veronica replied,

"What?"

"From when I worked at T.J.Maxx." She stated, "Let's go."

Cam slipped on her heels and Fiona stopped in Lip's room, "Hot dogs downstairs. Nachos, too."

"Have fun." Lip commented and Cam rushed in to grab the Axe can and spray herself,

"Bye, Lip!" She blew him a kiss before following Fiona and Veronica,

The three girls made it to the club, Cam having to fish out her fake ID, and she immediately went to the bar. She bought a few shots for the girls before they made their way to the dance floor. Cameron held a glass of gin and tonic in one hand while the other was in her hair as she danced along side her sister and Veronica.

Cam watched a semi-attractive guy walked over and began dancing behind her older sister, "Hi." Fiona grinned,

Suddenly, he grabbed her purse and began running. How he moved so quickly in that crowd, she didn't know.

"My purse! Fuck! My purse! That guy just took my purse!" Fiona yelled and they all began running after him,

Cam almost caught him before something mowed her down. She let out a loud grunt as a body landed on top of her and knocked over a waitress, spilling drinks and glass all over them, "Oh, fuck!" She groaned,

"Shit, I'm sorry." Someone chuckled from above her,

Cameron opened her eyes and connected to a pair of blue ones, "Hi." She whispered,

"Hi." He smirked,

Her eyes widened, "Fiona, oh shit!" He quickly rolled off her and she rushed out of the club, the man following behind,

Cameron ran out of the club and met up with the girls on the curb, "Did you get it?"

"No." Fiona scoffed,

"Ah, sorry." The man rubbed the back of his head,

"That was fucking incredible." Veronica pointed at him, "Truly, honestly, one of the most heroic things I've ever seen." She turned back to Fiona, "Did you see him? Stupid, but, man, heroic. "

"Stupid? Felt like I've been hit by a truck." Cameron groaned, rubbing her back,

"Uh, Steve. Uh, my name is Steve." He turned to look at Cameron, "Uh, I was... going to offer to buy you a drink when I saw him take your friend's purse."

"Oh. She'll take a drink." Veronica grinned before they turned back to the entrance,

"Need to drink off the pain." Cameron mumbled,

"Hey, where do you think you're going?" The bouncer asked Steve, stopping the four of them,

"Uh... Are you serious?" Veronica questioned, her eyebrows raised.

She was mad. And it was a bad idea to get Veronica mad. And once she takes off her earrings, it's over.

"Where's his stamp?"

"Can you believe this joker?" V scoffed, "If you were doing your job, he wouldn't have had to."

"No stamp, no re-entry."

"Is he for real?" V eyes the bouncer, "Fat prick."

"Fine. You're all barred."

"For what?" Cam asked, crossing her arms angrily,

"Uh, drugs."

"What?" Fiona narrowed her eyes, "He probably let them get away 'cause he knows them."

"Shut up, skank." The bouncer spat in Fiona's face,

"What did you just say?" Cam stepped forward, getting between Fiona and the bouncer,

"You heard me, crack whore."

"Watch your mouth." Steve threatened, pulling her away,

"Or you're going to do what?" The bouncer turned to him,

Cam stepped between them, "Okay. Okay, forget it. Please, forget it. Okay." She grabbed V's and Fiona's arms, "Come on, let's... let's get a cab." She turned to look at Steve, "Thank you. Come on."

The sound of a fist making contact with a jaw made them turn around to see the bouncer go down, "Oh! Oh, shit!" Steve ran into the road to escape the large man and the four of them laughed before running away.

Steve led them to his car and offered Cameron the passenger seat, "How much have you had to drink tonight?" She asked,

"I punched a bouncer, how much do you think I've had?"

She glanced back at her sister and friend and they shrugged before getting into the car. Cam gave him directions, glancing over at the handsome stranger every once in a while,

Once they got to their neighbourhood, Steve parked in front of the Gallagher house before getting out and running around the car, opening the door for her,

Fiona and Veronica walked towards the front steps of the blue house while Cameron looked up at Steve, "You're bleeding." She reached up to his hair line where blood was leaking from a cut from the glass, "C'mon, I'll patch it up." She grabbed his hand and led him inside, "Well, V will, she's good at the medical stuff."

Veronica sat on the couch while Cameron sat Steve on the floor so V could get a look at the cut. She ordered him to take his shirt off while Fiona grabbed some drinks and Cameron grabbed a wash cloth and got it damp,

"You gonna hit that?" Fiona asked with a grin as she grabbed some beer,

Cam squeezed out excess water from the cloth, "Maybe.. why, you want him afterwards?"

"Ew, I don't want your sloppy seconds." Her older sister joked, "C'mon."

They entered the living room and Fiona grinned as she set the beers on the coffee table, "I'm not kidding, Steve. You are dead if he ever lays eyes on you. And I mean dead."

"I nearly peed myself when you hit him." Veronica joked as she cleaned the wound on his head, "Well, I did a little."

The three of them laughed and Cameron wrapped the cloth around his fist that he used to punch the bouncer, "Well, now we have to find a new place to club thanks to our big mouths and Steve's fist." She stated, sitting in the arm chair,

On the stairs, Debbie, Lip, and Carl came down and Cam felt a little bad for waking them up, "Hi there," She greeted younger sister as she climbed into her lap,

"Wait, how many of you guys live here?" Steve asked as Carl sat on the coffee table and Lip sat on the other end of the couch,

"We're sisters." Cameron stated, nodding over to Fiona,

"Not me, I'm one down. But the old guy next door died in March, which I guess technically makes us next-door neighbors." Veronica answered,

"So you're a nurse, Veronica?"

"Used to be." She replied,

"Lying bitch." Fiona joked, taking a swig of her beer,

"She worked housekeeping at Cook County, bedpans and shit-sheets." Lip elaborated,

"Fine. But I was offered a place in the nursing school." She explained,

"Fine. But it never happened." Cam smiled, "They fired her for selling medical supplies on eBay."

Veronica paused, "Will you shut up? We don't even know him."

He reached his hand out to Carl, "Steve."

The third youngest boy shook his hand, "Carl."

"Lip." He raised a beer in greeting,

"Debbie." Cameron introduced the red head, wrapping her arms around her,

"How you doing, Debbie?" Steve asked her,

She glanced up at Steve, "Nice watch." She said, nodding to the accessory on Steve's wrist,

"Oh, thanks. Panerai."

"What'd that set you back, about six bills?" The redhead asked,

Cameron rolled her eyes and squeezed the girl. "Plus, Ian." Fiona pointed out as the second oldest boy sat on the stairs,

"Hey, Debbie, why do they call him 'Lip'?" Steve asked the girl,

"His real name's Philip." Cameron explained,

The door opened and Veronica's boyfriend, Kevin, walked in. When V and Kev were in an open relationship, Cameron used to screw around with Kevin. But over a year ago they became committed and Cam vowed never to go back to that again. She just needed to know if he was as good in bed as he looked, not to mention she was on drugs and not in her right mind at that point.

"Yo, Veronica! You got my keys?" Kevin paused, seeing the guy sitting between Veronica's legs, "What's going on here?"

"This is Steve. Decked the bouncer at Purgatory to defend my honor." Veronica introduced them,

Cameron snorted, "My honor." She corrected,

"Yeah? Which bouncer?" Kevin asked,

"Jimmy Clifton." Fiona answered,

"Jimmy Cli..." Kevin's eyes widened and he went to shake Steve's hand, "Well, Jesus, man, put it there! Respect!"

"Guy just stands there, doesn't really do anything." Steve replied,

Kevin sat on the arm of the armchair that Cameron and Debbie were on, "Yeah, you'll be his third conviction. Third or fourth. Fourth." Kevin corrected himself, "Yeah. I mean, after that much practice, you would think the man would have manslaughter down by now. No more fuck-ups like last time, like leaving his dad still breathing."

Cameron watched as Carl snagged a beer and began chugging it. She nudged Fiona and the oldest Gallagher stood and tugged it from his hands,

"His dad?" Steve questioned,

"Yeah. Five years, over an '87 Monte Carlo with 200,000 miles on the odometer. Fucking Monte Carlo!"

Fiona set the beer in the kitchen and stood in the entry way, "Okay, come on, time for bed. Up the wooden hill. Come on."

The younger kids began complaining and Cameron kissed Debbie's cheek before lifting her from her lap, "Go on."

Kevin and Steve stood, "Yeah, let me take one last look at you, while you're still alive!" Kevin joked,

With a wink, Fiona took the kids upstairs and Veronica left with Kevin, leaving Cameron alone with Steve. She began to clean up the living room, handing him his shirt,

She was nervous. No way was she going to bring him up to her room and have sex with him with her siblings still awake. He was just some stranger who helped them out,

"Straight answer: if I hadn't busted my skull for you tonight, would you have looked at me twice?" He smirked down at her,

"Who's saying that I looked twice?" She smiled,

"Oh, you did, then."

Cameron shook her head with a smile and moved to walk past him. Before she could get far, Steve pulled her back and cupped her jaw, bringing his lips to hers. It started to get heated, their tongues tangling together before Cam pulled away, "We can't." She whispered, glancing toward the stairs,

She went into the kitchen and he followed, "You know, 90% of the world's problems are caused by tiny words that come in pairs. I mean, we're healthy and we're happy, but when people ask, we say... 'Not bad'." Steve wrapped his arms around her, "You know, the first time that I saw you dancing, about a month back at Crobar, I was desperate to buy you a drink. You know, normally I'm shy, so I told myself: 'I can't. She won't. We wouldn't.' And then tonight I see you there again." He turned her around to face him and she felt his breath on her cheek as his face got closer, "All the indications being that I'm getting a second chance to make a good impression. Tell me to stop, and I'll stop."

"What? Stop talking?" She joked, kissing him gently and pulling away,

"Only if you shut me up like that." He replied, following her lips,

Steve grabbed her hips and lifted her onto the counter, his lips not leaving hers. Cameron tugged on his hair, and pulled him closer, gasping when his jeans rubbed against her core,

"More." She mumbled, bitting his bottom lip before trailing down his jaw and to his neck,

Steve reached down and under her dress, tugging on her panties while she fumbled with the button on his jeans and pushed them down to his knees

Cameron gasped as he entered her, wrapping her legs around his waist, "Oh, god." She groaned,

"Not quite." Steve smiled before attacking her neck with kissed and bites,

She clung to him as he brutally pounded into her, as if he's been celibate for months. Cameron tried to stay quite to not alert her siblings upstairs. Steve reached down to rub between her legs and Cam bit his shoulder to keep from crying out,

"Fuck." Steve hissed in pleasure, "C'mon, almost there."

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and Cameron pulled away, thinking they've been caught,

"Fiona? Cameron?"

"Shit." Cameron sighed, hearing Tony's voice,

He was a police officer who lived in the neighbourhood that had a thing for her sister.

Steve pulled away, the moment now ruined, and tugged his jeans back up. Cameron slid off the counter and smoothed out her dress before opening the back door,

"Tony, hi." She smiled,

He glanced between her and Steve, "Is Fiona in?"

"Yeah, yeah. Frank?" Cameron asked and the blonde nodded,

"Yep."

"Alright. You bring him in, I'll get Fiona." Cam told him before turning to Steve, "You might want to steer clear."

Cam went up the stairs, leaning against Fiona's doorframe as her older sister pulled on a sweatshirt, "Tony's here with Frank."

Fiona sighed in frustration before going downstairs. Cameron moved to follow her when she heard babbling behind her. She turned to see Liam walking out of his room, holding a toy tractor, "What are you doing up, silly boy?" Cam grinned as she picked the  22-month-old boy into her arms,

She went downstairs, where Fiona held the door open for Tony and his partner as they dragged Frank into the house, "You... you..." Franks slurred, not fighting the cops,

They set him against a counter in the kitchen, "I wouldn't put him anywhere near a carpet till his pants dry a bit. "

"Thanks, Tony." Fiona smiled a the blonde,

"See you, Fiona." He nodded, handing her Frank's boot before they left,

Steve, who was sitting at the dining room table, stared at the drunk man, "Who the hell is that?"

"Our dad." Cameron answered, adjusting Liam in her arms as he waved his tractor around,

"You just leave him there all night?"

Fiona shrugged, "He's never there when we get up." She replied before going back up the stairs, taking Liam with her,

"So, uh, who's the little guy?" Steve asked, buttoning up his shirt,

"Liam? Liam's my brother." Cameron went into the living room and grabbed a cardigan that was hanging on the stairs, "Um... it's getting late, and I have to work in the morning."

Steve nodded, "Right, right... uh, goodnight then."

She sent him a small smile and watched as he left, "Night."
