Steve's view
"Încâ acele prunce. Cât câstigâ în total?" Bucky asked the woman on the stall, smiling.
I had no idea what he was talking about, as usual, but the woman packed some plums with the other purchases and gave some number. Bucky paid and came back to me with a smile on his face. A week and a half ago, we had come to Bucharest and had been living our own lives in hiding ever since. Once a week we got an update from Tony over an encrypted frequency on how the search for us was going. I pulled my hood a little deeper into my face and turned my head as a young woman approached us. It wasn't particularly far to our little flat, since neither of us could go to work without being found out, so Tony always transferred money to an offshow account. I felt bad about using his money, but he wouldn't hear any backtalk. Next to me, Bucky was happily mapping his plums. Grinning, I shook my head at him and unlocked the door to the flat.
"God I hate all this stuff." grumbled Bucky as he took off his sunglasses, cap and glove for his metal arm.
"It's not like it's forever, just until the others figure out who's trying to frame you." I hugged him from behind and pressed a kiss to the crook of his neck.
He sighed "I know Stevie, I just feel so locked in."
We were interrupted by a pounding on the door and pulled apart. Suspiciously I looked at the door.
"Open up already, it's me!" I heard Sam's voice, sounding subtly panicked.
What was Sam doing here? I hurriedly unlocked the door and the dark-skinned man stumbled in "You have to get out of here now, they've found you."
For a moment I forgot to breathe, how could this have happened. But that wasn't important now, all that mattered was that we got out of here as quickly as possible. "Come on Buck let's go."
But my boyfriend didn't move, he just smiled "Can't you hear them coming Stevie?"
I concentrated for a moment and sure enough, they were already in the house. They were on the roof, in the stairwell, they were just everywhere.
Frantically I ran my fingers through my hair "What are we going to do?"
"Steve it's okay." Bucky looked at me seriously "We're not getting out of here, you two are."
It took me a second to realise what he was saying "No way, I'm not running off and leaving you here!"
"It's me they want Stevie not you, I've already done so much to deserve this." he shouted "So please go." he whispered.
I shook my head. Suddenly the door flew out of the lock with a crashing sound and crashed against the wall. Armed soldiers stormed the room.
"Steve Rogers, James Barnes, Sam Wilson you are under arrest. Hands up, down on the floor! Now, get down!" one of them barked in English with a terrible German accent.
I did as they said, as did Sam and Bucky. Bucky just managed to stifle a yelp when one of the soldiers twisted his human arm backwards so violently that it broke.
"Hey, what are you doing?" I shouted in anger.
" Shut up or you're next!" growled the soldier standing over me handcuffing me.
"It's okay Stevie it's all right." Buck assured me, but his pained face told a different story.
Like the biggest felons we were led out onto the street. Sam and I were put in a car, Bucky in a secured convoy.
I didn't know how long we drove, but eventually the car stopped again and Sam and I were dragged out. My eyes searched for Bucky and found him. He was sitting in some kind of glass cage, his legs and arms in metal shackles just as one of them wrapped around his chest. I kept eye contact with him for as long as I could, but eventually I was pulled around a corner and lost sight of him. "What happens to him now?" I asked the most senior of the soldiers.
"Psychological evaluation and then extradition." it came back coldly.
Oh no. Whoever they sent in there, he or she would only stir up old painful memories. Sam and I were led into a room where I heard a familiar voice.
"You really are below average intelligence. Barnes has been set up, we just don't know by whom or why yet." came the voice of Tony.
I knew the next voice too, only I didn't take such pleasure in hearing it "If he's innocent why did he run?"
"Because you are all too narrow-minded to really believe that Barnes is innocent!" Tony snapped at the US Secretary of State.
When I turned the next corner, I could see them too. Tony was standing in front of the man who was two heads taller and was glaring at him. My heart leapt when I saw Wanda standing next to him. When she spotted me she came running up to me and hugged me "Hey sweetie." I greeted her.
"We'll get you out of here, I promise." she assured me.
Just then Ross left the room and Tony came up to us "What are you doing?" he looked angrily at the soldiers and pointed at our handcuffs "Keys now!" and as surprising as it was, one of the men actually handed him the key to our handcuffs.
As soon as the things were off, I rubbed my wrists.
"Man those things were uncomfortable," Sam voiced his opinion.
"Cap I've tried everything." Tony looked angrily at Ross "The guy is incredibly stubborn." suddenly he started to grin "But I'm much more stubborn, be right back." before he left he turned on the screen that showed Bucky.
"You've been through a lot haven't you James?" the man just asked sitting in front of Bucky's glass cage. "My name is Bucky."
I clenched my hands into fists as I saw fear creep into Bucky's eyes "I don't want to talk about it!"
The man grinned "you think once you start talking the horror would never end."
I had to pull myself together not to punch the screen, I knew whose horror would never end, the psychiatrist's.
Without any warning, the power went out. Panicked, I stared at the black screen.
"Fifth basement, east wing." Wanda called out to me and Sam and I ran.
Because something bad had happened, I could feel it.
