18. Truth
General Narration
"What do we do? I mean she was our 'friend' we can't just kill her. And she's Smokes sparkmate." Bulkhead whispered the second part. "Can we trust her?" Bulk asked, not wanting to resort to death.
"Of course we can't! She's a fragging 'Con! When did we start trusting Decepticons?!" Arcee hissed back.
Everyone went silent. Not wanting to trust a 'Con but not wanting to kill her either.
"So. What're we gonna do with her?" Arcee asked. "We will have to keep her here. One less Decepticon give us a greater chance of winning the war." Optimus replied.
"We can get some info outta her!" Bulkhead said punching his fists together. "She may prove useful for that. Bulk's got a point." Arcee agreed. Optimus just looked at his two followers, not entirely keen on the idea. He simply turned to his computers and continued his work.
Smokescreen just stood at the back. Silently. Quietly. No emotion in his optics.
"Hey Smoke? You right?" Bulkhead asked. "Fine." Smokescreen replied flatly. He walked towards the back of base and headed towards the cells. He didn't know if this was the best idea but he had to.
He walked down the hallway where the few cells were. All empty. Except the far one at the back. Where Skyfrost was.
Smokescreen reached her cell and stared at her still form, unconscious on the ground. He loved her with all his spark, but after this. He didn't know what was going to become of their bond.
Smokescreen let out a small vent. Apparently Skyfrost must've heard it as it awoke her.
Her optics fluttered open slowly at first. She then regained full vision and made out Smokescreens form.
"S-smokescreen?" She said quietly, barley a whisper. Smokescreen didn't answer. Skyfrost got up of the ground and was now standing, face to face with Smoekscreen. The bars of the cell were the only thing between the two Cybertronians.
Sky opened her mouth to speak again but was cut of by Smokescreen.
"What's your real name?" Smokescreen questioned. Skyfrost looked at the ground. "Nightstar." She replied back in a sad tone.
"Who was the other Mech? The one who picked a fight with me. What was his name. . . Nightblade." He asked another question.
Nightstar slightly jolted her helm up, realising her brother was still on the Nemesis.
"Well?!" Smokescreen slammed the cell bars, getting impatient. Nightstar jumped at his sudden action and got knocked back into reality.
"H-he's my b-brother." She stuttered.
Smokescreens face turned even angrier than before.
"You lied to me!!" He yelled. "What? No!" She desperately said back. "You said he was killed on Cybertron! And he just happens to be by your side on the Nemesis!" He shouted at her.
Nightstar shrunk back. "N-no! Your don't understand he-"
"I don't care! I don't want to hear it!"
"Smokescreen! Please! Let me explain!"
"No! You've lied to me enough! I bet that whole 'I love you Smokescreen' was all an act as well! You never loved me!"
"No. I may have lied, but it wasn't all a lie!"
"Enough! You haven't given me any reason to believe it was true." He said and turned to leave.
Nightstar ran up to the bars and held her arm out.
Smokescreen stopped, his back to her. He turned his helm slightly.
"You know, I really thought you were the one. Guess I was wrong." He said before leaving completely.
"Smokescreen! Please! Wait!" She pleaded. No answer all she could hear were the treads of his pedes leaving her.
She slid down and started crying, hugging her knee servos and tucking her helm in.
Smokescreen stopped halfway up the hallway. He could hear her sweet soft weeps from the other end of the hallway. He shut his optics tight before he could release any tears.
His speak had truly been broken.
He rushed out of the back of the base and headed for the main room. He then started for the exit.
"Smokescreen where do you think you're going?!" Ratchet exclaimed. Smokescreen didn't answer. He transformed and drove out the tunnel, full speed.
Arcee stepped forward and was about to chase after him. Optimus held his servo out in front of the blue femme, stopping her in her tracks.
She looked up at her leader in confusion. "He needs time to heal. Give him that time." Optimus advised. Arcee stood down and returned to what she was doing.
Smokescreen drive along the dusty roads of Jaspar Nevada. Going nowhere really. He was trying to get his processor off the current situation and thought a nice long drive would do the trick. Apparently it wasn't enough.
He decided to turn the radio on and tuned it to a random station.
The radio spoke; 'For all those David Cook fans, this ones for you!' The radio host spoke. Smokescreen didn't pay attention to artists or songs he just wanted to take his mind off current maters. The song started.
(Now's about time to press play on that song and continue reading, lyrics are there in case song doesn't work, read along with the song. Pls. Thx😘 it's called 'David Cook Lie')
"You whispered that you were getting tired.
You gotta look in your eyes, looks a lot like goodbye.
Hold on to your secrets tonight.
Don't want to know I'm ok with the silence,
It's true that I don't want to hear.
You're hiding regret in your smile,
There's a storm in your eyes I've seen comin' for a while.
Hang on to the past tense tonight,
Don't say a word I'm ok with the quiet.
The truth is gonna change everything.
So lie to me and tell me that it's gonna be alright.
So lie to me and tell me that we'll make it through the night.
I don't mind if you wait before you tear me apart.
And look me in the eye, and lie lie lie.
Lie lie lie.
Oh I know that there's no turning back,
If we put too much light on this we'll see through all the cracks.
Let's stay in the dark one more night.
Don't want to know I'm ok with the silence,
It's true that I don't want to hear.
So lie to me and tell me that it's gonna be alright.
So lie to me and tell me that we'll make it through the night.
I don't mind if you wait before you tear me apart.
And look me in the eye, and lie lie lie
Don't want to believe in this ending,
Let the cameras roll on keep pretending.
Tomorrows all wrong, if you walk away just stay.
So lie to me and tell me that it's gonna be alright.
So lie to me and tell me that we'll make it through the night.
I don't mind if you wait before you tear me apart.
And look me in the eye, and lie lie lie
So lie to me and tell me that we're gonna be ok,
So lie to me and tell me that we'll make it through the day
I don't mind if you wait before you tear me apart
And look me in the eye, and lie, lie, lie."
The song finished and Smokescreen couldn't take it anymore. The radio and silent drive just reminded him about all the times he spent with Nightstar.
He transformed back to his bipedal mood, near a giant rocky mountain, much like the base.
He punched the rocky wall with a hard clenched servo. A tear ran down his faceplate.
He stumbled back and fell to one knee.
The bond, not only did he have to endure his won pain, but, unintentionally, Nightstar was sending waves of sorrow and sadness through the bond. Smokescreen was most likely doing the exact same thing unknowingly.
The tears now gushed down his faceplate, he couldn't hold it in anymore. He couldn't be the strong, fearless, young mech he always made himself out to be. Not today.
"Why, Nightstar, why. . . " he mumbled to himself.
--------
Back at the base Nightstar was busy doing her own crying.
She was hurting, badly.
She knew Smokescreen would never ever talk to her again, her only way of communication was through the bond.
She tried to calm down, taking in deep cents. She then sent sorry and comfort through the bond, trying to ask for forgiveness and say sorry.
-------
Smokescreen's spark was aching he couldn't take it anymore. Until, all the pain shared between himself and Nightstar slowly faded, and instead was replaced with sorry and comfort from his sparkmate.
The pain was suddenly lifted from his chassis. He knew Nightstar was also in pain and trying to ask for forgiveness.
He wiped his tears away and transformed into his vehicular mode and drove back to base.
Once he reached the tunnel and drove into the main room, he returned back to his bipedal mode and walked towards the cells.
He reached Nightstar and stood before her. She stared back at him.
"Was it a lie?" He asked flatly.
". . Most of it. . .yes"
"What about the parts between us." He continued.
". . . It. . . Was all true Smokescreen."
Smokescreen got angry for a split second but then he felt the bond. All that was within the bond was truth, no lies. He could use the bond to his advantage to get the truth out of her.
"Why did you go back to Megatron? He obviously does not care for you. And you just get the scrap pounded out of you."
"My brother. He had my brother. He would only free him if I stayed. I had to. I'm sorry Smokescreen." Once again. No deception was sensed in the bond.
"Would you join the Autobots for good? And completely leave Megatron?" He asked.
". . . Yes." She replied. It was the truth.
Smokscreen went silent for a while. She was telling the truth but could he really just let her go like that?
"Smokescreen I know you probably hate me with all your spark right now, and you probably always will. But it wasn't all a lie. When I was given my mission. I was to get Autobot information and return it to Megatron. I was not meant to forge any friendships. But you, you made me break all those rules. I fell for you Smokescreen and I love you." She said strongly and full of truth.
Smokescreen turned to look her in the optics, he pressed a button in the wall and the cell doors opened.
He walked up to her and stared at her for a while. He slowly meant down and gently planted his lips onto hers. They pulled away.
"I don't hate you with all my spark. It's impossible." Smokescreen replied smiling lightly. She smiled back and hugged him tightly.
Despite everything she'd done. Everything she just said was 100% true. He trusted her.
Smokescreen lead Nightstar out of the cell and into the main room.
Arcee turned and saw their Decepticon prisoner out of her cell. She raised her weapons ready to fire.
"Arcee! Wait! We can trust her!" Smokescreen stood in front of Nightstar. "She's a 'Con! Have you lost it?!" Arcee yelled.
"Optimus please." Smokescreen pleaded looking into his leaders optics. Optimus waved a hand at Arcee instructing her to stand down. "Explain Smokescreen." Optimus ordered.
