Heatwave

"Grandma, grandma!" Two young children cried. The old lady that stood at the foot of their bed smiled.

"Yes, my little sparklings?" she asked softly, her mind returning to her sparkmate that had left her long before her only daughter had been born. He had no idea this family existed, and would never know. She missed him deeply, but he was gone now. As she had wanted. He deserved to be home on his planet, not here with her.

"Tell us a story!" The oldest of her grandchildren grinned. The old lady smiled softly.

"Have you guys ever heard the story of the giant robots that once protected this town?" she asked softly. Her grandchildren shook their heads excitedly, and she smiled.

"Griffin Rock has had several protectors in its past", she murmured. "Four of them to precise. Heatwave was the hotheaded leader, much like your mother, to be honest. Chase was a by the rules bot, but he had his own way of caring. Boulder was the kind and gentle robot, who fell in love with nature and art the moment he stepped onto this planet. Blades was a bit childish, but he was a good friend."

Her grandchildren were captivated and she smiled, sitting on the edge of their bed.

"The four robots went on many adventures together. They protected, served, and learned from the people of Griffin Rock. And while it's been many years since they've been back here, no one will forget them, or what they've done for our community."

"Was one of them Grandpa?" her oldest grandchild asked softly, her energon blue eyes shining with curiosity. Her grandmother smiled softly as she remembered the red mech she grew to love, even with his stubborn nature.

"That is a story for another time, my dear ones", she whispered softly.

"Mom", a red-haired female spoke front the doorway. "You need to see this."

The old lady stood and, with the help of a cane, walked shakily to a window that showed the outside world. She looked into the road that led away from the firehouse, and gaped in shock at the sight of a familiar firetruck, with a familiar man, whose red hair was turning grey, standing next to it.

"What are you waiting for, child, let him inside!" the old lady snapped and stumbled towards the door, almost falling.

"Mom!" the young woman cried out as she helped steady her mother. The old lady panted, but shook off he daughter, moving towards the door again.

"He's here", she whispered. "After all this time..."

"Who's here, Mom?" the young woman asked. The older woman smiled at her daughter softly as she opened the door.

"Your father."
