Ch. 43

Jennie could feel herself stirring a bit in her sleep, as she nearly woke from a loud beeping she barely recognized through a wall of exhaustion- the proximity sensor. She remained asleep, though. After all the running and swimming, she was rather tired, and had crashed on the couch. Faintly, she could hear Ratchet's voice, quietly conversing with someone. Waking up to hear about it seemed unnecessary, so she shifted a bit and let her sink deeper into sleep, drowning out the sounds around her.

It didn't take long for a dream to take place.

They were still at the beach, the sun setting on the water and reflecting peacefully. They watched the waves quietly, sitting in the soft sand and letting their soaked clothes dry before they returned. Jennie flashed her guardian a grin. "The water is orange, like you."

"I'm not only orange." Ratchet raised an eyebrow.

"Ugh." She shoved him playfully, laughing. "I'm trying to compare you to a pretty sunset, Ratch, come on."

The medic performed an eye roll. His charge scoffed.

"Find something to compare me to."

Ratchet let his gaze sweep the beach for a moment, looking for something, before he pointed: "Over there, that seagull just slipped and fell off the rock. That's you." He laughed as she swatted him, squealing.

"Oh, you!" She pushed him over, and he whined as the sand stuck to his wet clothes.

"Why do humans like this so much, it looks nice, but the sand, and the water..." He muttered, sitting up against her weight.

They both sat up straight, laughing a bit at each other, before Jennie moved in closer to him, pushing into him until he relented and wrapped an arm around her, hugging her gently. She beamed up at him. "Thanks for bringing me here. I had fun."

"I'm glad you enjoyed yourself." He nodded. "Though my main goal was to tire you out so I could have some quiet."

"Such a charmer."

Ratchet chuckled, eyes moving to trace the horizon. A few minutes of silence passed without much thought on Ratchet's end. He was drawn from this state, however, when there was a small peck on his cheek. Face heating, he sent a glare Jennie's way. Her head tilted a bit, and he appreciated how her hair shifted. Admittedly, he liked the idea of them matching. She was rather pretty with that hairdo.

"Oh my God, you're blushing, look at you, you look like such a dork," she squeaked through giggles.

Ratchet growled. "Why are you like this..."

"You love me though." Jennie beamed.

He rolled his eyes. "Ridiculous." He mumbled, fixing his glare back on her. "You are absolutely ridiculous."

"Too ridiculous for you to love?" She leaned forward, raising her eyebrows teasingly. Ratchet stayed still, holding his breath as to hold in an annoyed sigh.

"Jennie... Enough of that." He murmured, still not breaking eye contact. His words were disregarded, however, as they drifted even closer to each other.

"Ratch..."

She barely had time to get his nickname out before their lips met gently, the embrace tightening. Jennie pushed closer to him, her hands taking hold of his coat. Ratchet let her hold onto him, making a soft purring noise as they parted. Jennie was leaning in to kiss him again, but a shrill giggling made them both freeze and look up.

In the sky, as if someone was writing, words slowly began to appear, much to the author's relief and a lot of shippers' horrors:

APRIL FUCKIN FOOLS DID YOU REALLY THINK I WOULD DO THAT WELL YOU THOUGHT WRONG

Also happy Easter
