Ch. 42
Once he was able to be up and about, Ratchet instantly wished he still had an excuse to rest all day. The moment he was well enough to go about normally, every conscious second of his day was spent humoring Jennie, surrendering himself to watching ridiculous movies and listening to annoying music and accept weird conversations. He knew her constant enthusiasm was sparked from him finally being well again, she had missed him terribly. Soon, Jennie would calm down. It was a bumpy ride until then, though.
Ratchet buried his face in one servo as Jennie smacked down a huge stack of movies they'd be watching that night upon a table. "We're going to watch every Marvel movie made ever." She announced.
Oh, Primus, no... The medic stared at the stack hopelessly. "How about we go to sleep early and maybe sit in silence." His suggestion was disregarded.
"I thought we'd start with Captain America. We'll build up to the Avengers. Deal?" Jennie showed one of the covers to him. He glanced at it, sighing.
"What time is it?" He asked in a mumble. Before she could respond, his gaze went to the monitors; it was almost five. It wouldn't be dark for a good hour or two, maybe he could toss her out in the open and let her run all of her energy out. She'd like the beach. And running in the thick sand would tire her out faster... "Jennie, let's go to the beach."
Her eyes snapped up to him happily. "Really?"
Ratchet was already at the groundbridge controls. "Change into something else, those jeans won't do well with wet sand." He eyed her legs with annoyance, she'd be tracking sand into his vehicular mode. One thing he didn't look forward to.
With the coordinates punched in, he waited for his charge to return in a different, beach safe outfit. She ran over excitedly. "I'm ready!"
Ratchet rolled his optics, pulled the lever, and through the bridge they went, making sure to transform before they did so. He had been careful enough to ensure that the bridge opened hidden behind a mountain of rocks, out of right, but driving through was a struggle. Finally, he had made it to the point where he could safely park, and activate his holoform.
Jennie was off in a blur. By the time Ratchet had stepped out, she was bounding towards the water, screeching happily. He rolled his eyes and leisurely walked after her.
It was nice. There were little to no people out at this time, and the sun in the water was peaceful. He made his way to the edge of the water and sat down. By now, Jennie had jumped right in, and was letting the waves carry her back, before she leapt in again. She washed up before her guardian giggling madly.
"Come into the water with me." She ordered with a grin.
"Absolutely not." He retorted.
Jennie grabbed his wrist and started yanking. After a fair deal of whining and arguing, Ratchet finally let his persistent charge pull him in.
Being wet in human clothing was awful.
Ratchet waded slowly, mumbling irritably. Jennie dove below the surface and came up a moment later, shaking her wet hair everywhere. Her guardian shuddered as a wave passed, the wet clothes clinging to him uncomfortably. "I hope you're proud of yourself." He muttered.
Jennie laughed and pounced on him, pushing him below the surface. Being completely submerged was a new feeling, his loose hair nipping at the sides of his face and waves moving him with every passing. He made a noise of surprise and brought himself back up, not missing a beat in shouting at Jennie. When she merely laughed, he splashed her a few times and wrung his hair out. "You're ridiculous."
By the time Ratchet was able to drag Jennie from the water, it was dark, stars replacing the bright blue sky. Jennie flopped her wet body onto the passenger seat of his form, and Ratchet cringed. She was soaking wet and covered in sand. At least she had gotten her energy out- once they were back at the base, she crashed on the couch and was silent for the rest of the evening. Ratchet's ideas always worked.
He was working quietly, every so often casting a glance at his sleeping charge, glad he had escaped the movie idea, when the proximity sensor went off. He groaned, but miraculously, she didn't wake. Agent Fowler entered the room.
"Optimus is asleep right now." Ratchet said, before Fowler had the chance to speak.
"That's fine," the agent stuffed his hands into his pocket, looking over at Jennie. "I was hoping to speak with you."
Ratchet raised an optic ridge.
"I've been thinking about Jennie's future." He looked back at Ratchet. "And I've come to a decision."
