Ch.14

The next couple of days were rather busy for Jennie and Ratchet. Ratchet had Agent Fowler find a different school for her, and get her into the system, making sure the school couldn't reach her father, and her father couldn't reach her. That took some clever words and planning, and lies, but eventually was sorted out. Then they had to supply Jennie with supplies. Then, Ratchet had to read up on some of the subjects that she'd be learning so he could help her. Finally, Jennie was back at school, but carried pepperspray and a stun-gun, so she could feel safer about being out and around without Ratchet, knowing her father and his friends could be lurking about. By the end of the week, Jennie had most of her classes and work organized and had a better understanding of the subjects being taught, thanks to her guardian. Of course, she wasn't thrilled about going to school... it was school. But now it was much easier for her, and she wasn't alone. Jason never did anything other than beat her. They hadn't heard from him all week... which meant he didn't go to the police. For now. His abusing of Jennie wouldn't play in his favor if he did that... but Ratchet's 'kidnapping' of her would. Of course, the police probably wouldn't be able to find her with the Autobots. But the thought of Jason legally getting her away from them plagued Ratchet often, as he worried for her safety elsewhere.

That thought was going through his processor as he left the school with Jennie in the passenger seat, thus he was silent, which gained his charge's attention immediately (generally be would converse with her). "Ratch...? You okay?" She asked curiously.

"Mm? Oh, I'm fine." Ratchet angled his rear view mirror to look at her. "How was school?"

Jennie shrugged. "It was school. There's no weekend homework, but there's a project I should probably work on. The one in English I told you about yesterday. The reeeaaally boring one." She pulled the lever at the base of the seat and made it lean back, groaning dramatically. "UUUUUUuuuggghhhh... You should do it for me..."

"I'll help you with it, but I'm not writing it for you." Ratchet inwardly rolled his optics. "And you've been reading on it all week, it won't be too difficult." He turned a corner and sped up a bit.

"Fiiiiiiiine..." She stared out the window for a moment, before looking at his steering wheel with hopeful eyes. "When we get back to base, will you watch a movie or two with me?" She asked excitedly.

"It depends if I'll find it entertaining or not." He replied.

Jennie sat up. "I'll make sure they'll be really good ones." Ratchet moved the seat up so it was no longer leaning back, now that she wasn't laying down. "Like... Jurassic Park, or something..."

"Dinosaurs? Couldn't you find one more... realistic?"

A mildly offended look came to her face. "Ratch, Jurassic Park is the best movie you are ever gonna see," she said firmly. Ratchet sighed.

"Very well..."

When they reached the base, he activated his holoform, and joined Jennie up on the couch, where she put in her movie and sat, kicking her legs excitedly. Ratchet watched her with an amused expression. "This had better be good," he ruffled her hair playfully as it started, before relaxing and focusing on the TV screen. Jennie laughed, fixing her hair, before focusing on the TV herself.

"Trust me, it is."

For the next hour, Ratchet sat there, judging every inch of the plot, while Jennie sat, intently engrossed with the dinosaurs. When it was over, Ratchet gave a sigh of relief and stood, fixing his coat. "Well, that was... interesting," he muttered. Jennie stood as well, turning off the TV.

"Aw, shut up, that movie is the best." She rolled her eyes, and playfully socked his shoulder. "I coulda made you watch something a lot worse, ya know. It coulda been Carebears, or something." Ratchet raised an eyebrow.

"What the frag is a Carebear?"

Jennie laughed, shaking her head. "Don't worry about it, Ratch." She took the movie out and put it away, before turning around and facing him again. "What you wanna do now?"

"You should work on your project." He replied, pointing at her backpack, which sat beside the TV. "I'll help you if you need it." He added when Jennie huffed and stared at him with a bored expression.

"You're too responsible! I don't wanna work!" She complained.

"Come on, get it done before the weekend." Ratchet insisted. "I don't want you to procrastinate and be doing it late on Sunday. "

Jennie groaned dramatically, before picking up her backpack. "Your helping me though." She watched as Ratchet's holoform flickered off and he transformed, offering a servo for her to hop onto. After she did so, he carried her over to the monitors, and set her down beside the keyboard. "Get started. I'll help if you need it." He instructed, servos immediately traveling over the keyboard and beginning to type. "I'm going to be searching for nearby sources of energon."

"Mmkay." She nodded, pulling out some paper and her books from her backpack, and beginning to work.

For the next couple of hours, both of them worked, conversing and jeepung eachother company, until Jennie finished, and put her things away, loudly announcing her completion and jumping to her feet happily. "Now let's do something else!" Ratchet sighed and tore his gaze from the screen.

"Like what, there's not much to do around here." He pointed out, raising an optic ridge.

"I dunno! Something fun!" She threw her arms in the air briefly. "Come on, Ratch! You had to have gotten a good amount of work done by now!"

"I have." Ratchet admitted. "But that doesn't mean I should stop now."

"You work soooo muuuuuuch..." Jennie whined, walking across the keyboard and collapsing on it, in the way of his typing digits. Ratchet growled in agitation.

"Jennie..."

"Pleeeeaaaaase?"

He opened his mouth to respond, but stopped and turned his helm as Arcee, Bulkhead and Bumblebee sped into the base, Bulkhead and Bumblebee transforming immediately after Miko and Raf got out. Arcee stayed in her vehicle mode though, as Jack hopped off and walked over. "You ready, Jennie?" He asked as he neared. Ratchet looked at her curiously.

"Oh geez! I totally forgot!" She facepalmed angrily, before turning to Ratchet. "The burger place Jack works at is hiring, and I think I should try to get the job. That way I can afford more food and stuff, when the money you have runs out." She explained enthusiastically. Her guardian nodded.

"Makes sense. Though you could've asked me to drive you."

Jennie shrugged. "I felt like it would be weird showing up for an interview for a fast food job in an ambulance. No offense." She pointed to the ground. "Can you help me down?" Ratchet rolled his optics, but picked her up and placed her on the ground gently. Jack handed her a spare helmet as they started walking towards Arcee. "Oh, by the way, in my resume, I wrote you as a reference!" She called back as she got onto Arcee behind Jack.

Ratchet stared in shock. "Jennie...!"

"Gotta go, bye! Arcee, step on it!" She said excitedly. Arcee started and drove off.

"If I get called by some owner of a fast food restaurant, in hopes of hearing good things about you, you're in for it!" Ratchet shouted after them, shaking his helm. "Frag..."

He returned to work after that, ignoring the sounds of Raf and Miko playing video games and their guardians cheering loudly.
