Ch.1

The pain was gone, surprisingly, other than a little soreness, Jennie noticed as she woke, noting that she had blacked out in the back of the ambulance after she had been hit. Her wound in her forehead had been nicely stitched and the blood had been cleaned from her hair and face, and she was wearing somebody else's heavy metal band T-shirt and pajama pants, probably because her other clothes had been soaked in blood. I wonder if it stained... Jennie thought, slowly sitting up and running her fingers over the stitches carefully. Whoever had done it was a professional, and had kindly used pain medication to ease the discomfort. Looking around, Jennie found that she was still in the back of the ambulance, on the stretcher covered with a warm blanket. She had definitely been taken care of.

Jennie got off the stretcher, her bare feet landing on the flooring of the back of the ambulance, and she approached the door in the back. When she opened it, what she saw was quite the surprise.

There was a giant robot at least fifty feet tall with red and blue coloring standing there, with it's back turned to her, having not yet noticed her presence. Jennie began to inch back into the ambulance when the vehicle gave a small, "ahem," and said, "Optimus, she's awake."

The red and blue robot, who responded to 'Optimus', turned around acknowledgingly, and looked down at her with calm set of azure eyes... almost as vibrant as the eyes of the man who hit her. Jennie stumbled out of the ambulance immediately and began to back away from both the robot and the vehicle, eyes wide with fear, which only got wider when the ambulance transformed into an orange and white robot itself!

"Easy, you needn't be afraid." The robot called Optimus said softly, his cool gaze meeting her terrified one. "We will not harm you."

"Wh-Who... what... I..." Jennie sputtered, backing up until she was pressed up against a wall. "What are you? And what do you want with me?"

The orange and white bot rolled his optics. "Must we explain this to every human we come across?"

"You!" Jennie suddenly pointed at him; he raised an eyebrow and sent her a curious look. She narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms, and angry look coming to her face. "You ran me over!"

"Indeed I did, and I apologize for doing so, but, I've treated your wounds, you'll be fine." He waved a metal hand dismissively, but stopped when Optimus sent him a scolding look.

"Ratchet," he began. "I believe you owe her a better apology than that." The orange and white bot, Ratchet, gave him a 'do I have to' face, and grumbled when Optimus nodded.

Ratchet, the orange and white one, sighed, gazing down at Jennie with an agitated set of eyes... those same eyes that Jennie found mesmorizing the night before, when he ran her over. "I am truly sorry I hit you, and I hope all is well." He turned to Optimus. "Happy now?"

"So what are you?" Jennie asked, after giving Ratchet a forgiving nod, as curiosity overcame her anger.

"We are autonomous robotic organisms, from the planet Cybertron. Call us Autobots." Optimus explained, "Now that you know of our existence, you will require a guardian, so you have defense against the Decepticons." He turned to Ratchet.

"No." Ratchet shook his helm, pointing to his leader accusingly. "You want the human, you deal with it!" He sent a glare at Jennie. "She's already ticking me off, how do you expect me to handle her for more than three minutes!"

"I may want the human, but you hit her with your vehicle mode," Optimus reminded him, sending a small hand gesture to her, a teasing smile coming to his lips. "She is your responsibility. I expect you to take care of her." Before Ratchet could argue further, Optimus turned and left the room, probably not wanting to delve deeper into the argument.

Ratchet let out a long sigh, before turning his back on Jennie and walking over to a couple monitors, and starting to type. Jennie huffed, deciding connection with him would be very difficult. She walked over, found a way to climb up the side of the monitors, and got up near the keyboard, and stared up at him with agitated eyes. "I take it you don't like me?" He didn't answer. Well, screw you too. Jennie huffed again, before walking across the keyboard, and standing in front of his large metal hand, and kicked it gently. When he glared at her, she crossed her arms. "Pay attention to me." She ordered, returning his angry gaze. Ratchet narrowed his eyes before picking her up and moving her away from the keyboard.

"I didn't ask to be your guardian, kid." He growled, when Jennie glared at him.

"And I didn't ask to be run over." Jennie shot back.

"Will everyone stop using that against me!?" Ratchet groaned, before setting his jaw and sending her a thoroughly ticked off glare. "I don't like children, alright? So leave me be."

Jennie growled, but otherwise stayed silent, as he returned to working. She sat down and watched him, her gaze on those... brilliant eyes, which weren't focused on her... she hadn't a clue how she got so lost in them, but.. they were amazing. After a couple minutes of silence, she managed to break it, when she said: "I... think you have really pretty eyes." Ratchet looked at her, now more surprised than angry. Jennie shifted awkwardly. "We got off on the wrong foot... let's start over. My name is Jennie, I'm sixteen, and I apologize for arguing."

After a few seconds, Ratchet sighed, but replied, much to her relief. "I am Ratchet, and I'm the medic of Team Prime."

"Cool!" Jennie said excitedly, finding conversation with her guardian a fun and new experience.

"So, last night when I hit you, you fell backwards, yet you had a wound in your forehead. What happened before?" The medic asked, returning to his work, but sending her a glance every now and then.

"Uh..." Jennie looked away, earning her guardian's immediate attention. "M-My father... abuses me..."

Ratchet was now staring at her with a dead serious expression, lips tight in a frown. "Then it's a good thing I ran you over," he said after a few seconds.
