Chapter 4
Adelaide looked around her new living room, getting the feeling that she would love living here.
"This is the last box."
Addie turned to see Optimus setting down the final box in the new house.
"Thanks, Optimus. I really do appreciate you guys helping me out. I'll pay you back one day."
"You know that is not necessary," the Prime denied with a shake of his head.
"You're our friend, Addie. You've been a lot nicer than Fowler ever has been," Bulkhead spoke up as he walked over from the kitchen with Bee after putting the fridge into place.
Bee nodded quickly with a smile.
Adelaide smiled back at the scout. "I really enjoy hanging out with you guys. It's much better than sitting at a desk and getting bitched at all day. Mind my french."
"Your french?" Optimus questioned.
"I mean my swearing. It's just a saying," Adelaide explained quickly and the three nodded in undstanding. "Either way, I feel like I'm at least more useful here than I was at the base."
"Well, get used to it, 'cause we're not letting you go back there," Bulkhead chuckled loudly.
"Speaking of which, we should probably get back to the new base. Ratchet may need assistance," Optimus spoke up.
Addie perked up. "I haven't seen it yet! I'll come with you guys!"
"You can ride with me, Addie," Bulkhead offered, only for Bee to silently protest. "What if I wanted to take her to the base?"
The two argued, with only Bulkhead actually saying anything.
"How about this. I flip a coin," Adelaide suuggesed as she went over to her purse and got a quarter out.
"Heads!" Bulkhead called and Bumblebee crossed his arms over his chest.
Addie flicked the coin up into the air and let it land on the floor. As it clanged on the ground, it landed with the tails up which made Bumblebee silently cheer.
Bulkhead huffed and turned away. "Okay, fine. But next time it's my turn."
"What if next time I wanted to ride with Optimus?" Adelaide teased as she leaned forward a bit.
The Prime stiffened a little at his being brought into this scuffle.
"That's cold," Bulkhead grumbled to which Addie laughed.
"I can ride with you next time, Bulkhead. Now, let's go. I wanna see this place!"
-
Adelaide stepped out of Bee's passenger seat and looked around the large facility that they had entered.
"Damn. This is a lot nicer than the cave," she spoke with a satisfied smile.
"You can say that again," Bulkhead agreed.
There was a few different levels of platforms where it was clear that she would be able to do her work and be comfortable with no fear of accidently being stepped on.
Her smiled brightened when she saw the mustard couch on one of the platforms so she ran up the stairs. "My couch!"
Bee whirred and let out a few happy beeps.
"Aww, thanks Bee! You're too sweet," she replied with a light laugh.
Her attention was then turned to the sound of Ratchet working on something in a deep tunnel.
"What's that?" Adelaide asked aloud as she looked up at Optimus to answer her question.
"The groundbridge. Instead of having the limited range of the groundbridge generator that we currently have, this set groundbridge will allow the vortex to reach across the entire planet," the Prime explained, watching his friend work diligently.
The human nodded before doing some more exploring. There was plenty of human sized tech that she would definitely have fun playing with.
"I coordinated with Agent Fowler to make sure you would have everything you should need. I hope everything is too your liking," Optimus continued as Adelaide investigated her knew areas.
"I really appreciate that, Optimus. It'll be perfect."
The large Autobot gave a nod before turning to the monitors that were more Cyebrtronian sized.
Adelaie walked over to the railing that was closest to where Optimus was standing and she watched him carefully as he typed some stuff that she couldn't decipher.
"Hey, Optimus," she spoke up and he acknowledged her with a hum. "Would you be able to teach me how to read Cybertronian?"
Optimus, slightly taken aback by the request, turned his gaze back to the female agent. "If I am able to find the time, I would be honored to teach you my language. Though, Ratchet may also be of help on that front, having more opportunity than I."
"Really? That would be awesome! Thanks!" She beamed and Optimus couldn't help but feel his lips curl up ever so slightly at the sight.
"I will speak to Ratchet on the issue," Optimus replied with a curt nod.
Adelaide continued to watch Optimus work, leaning against the railing as she was trying to make sense of anything happening on the screen.
After a bit, he noticed that she was still watching his work intently. He thought to himself for a moment before setting his hand down on the railing for her.
Addie blinked for a moment before climbing up onto his metal hand, allowing him to lift her up to his shoulder where he slid her down.
The two continued to sit in silence while the others milled around their new living space. That is, until Optimus interrupted the silence.
"Adelaide, you asked me what I would do if I had an hour all to myself," the Prime started softly.
"Got an answer for me?"
"I believe I do," he confirmed with a nod. "I would like to take drive, and explore the nature of Earth. This planet is so full of life, and the colors that fill the space. I do believe that would help me relax, as you suggested."
"That sounds like a great idea! Once we get everything set up here, I'm sure the others wouldn't mind if you just disappeared for a bit."
Optimus seemed to consider it for a moment as he glanced at the others who were clearly fine doing their own thing.
"I think I will," Optimus conceded.
"Good."
-
"Where's Optimus?" Ratchet asked as he walked over to the platform where Adelaide was working on her new computer setup.
"Hm? Oh, he went for a drive," she replied casually.
"I'm sorry? He went for a drive? Tpo scout for energon or-?" Ratchet prodded, knowing thast Optimus wouldn't just 'go for a drive'.
Addie turned in her chair with a victorious grin. "Nope. I convinced him that he needed to take some time for himself. He agreed to just an hour, but a win is a win in my book."
Ratchet stood in shock as he stared at the human. "I've been trying to get him to take some down time for as long as I can remember..."
"What can I say? I'm just that good," the girl boasted with a smile before tuning down the sass a bit. "I'm glad though. Some time alone will be good for him. I can't even begin to imagine the weight he feels, but I do want to help, you know?"
The doctor nodded in agreement. "I appreciate you getting through to him."
"Anytime, Ratchet," Adelaide replied, giving him a small smile.
She knew she had made progress with the grumpy medic. He wasn't as gruff with her as he had been when they met.
This was her new family and she cherished them.
-
"Optimus, come in," Addie spoke through the comms as she looked at the radar on her monitor.
"I read you, Misd Adelaide," Optimus responded quickly.
"There was a giant energon surge not far from the base and now I'm reading two Autobot signals," she relayed as she locked onto the two new signals that had popped up.
"Send me a bridge."
"On it," Adelaide said before cutting the comm. She quickly typed on her computer to open upo the bridge l;ike Ratchet had taught her.
Moments later, Optimus rolled through vortex and immediately assumed bipedal form.
"Do you want me to open a line?" Adelaide asked as she prepared to open a secure line to the two Autobots that were somewhere in the area.
Optimus merely nodded so she proceeded in opening the line.
"Unknown comrades, this is Autobot Outpost Omega One. Identify yourselves," Optimus spoke sternly.
"Optimus Prime? Is that you? Designation's Cliffjumper. My partner here is Arcee," the unfamiliar voice came through. "We received your call out and so, here we are."
Optimus recognized the voice of the new Autobot and he nodded. "We are sending transport."
Adelaide hummed and proceeded to lock onto the coordinates of the bots before opening the bridge once more.
"This is exciting! Two new bots," she gushed with a bright smile.
Out of the groundbridge came two bots. One was covered in a bright red paint with silver horns on his helm. The shorter female was a deep blue with pink accents on her frame.
"Welcome. We are more than grateful to have you here," Optimus spoke as he stood before them.
"It's an honor to be here, sir. Where's the rest of the crew?" The red bot, Cliffjumper asked as he looked around. "And what is that?"
Adelaide locked gazes with Cliffjumper and waved with a smile.
"This is one of our liaisons to this planet. We are robots in disguise here, as to not disturb the population."
"We're called humans. My name is Adelaide," she introduced.
"Name's Cliffjumper. The quiet one over there is Arcee. She can be a bit harsh, but she won't bite ya," the new mech joked.
Arcee just grimaced and shook her head.
"I'm sure we'll get along fine. Nice to meet you both. And as for everyone else, they're out scouting for energon."
"And what about the Decepticons?" Arcee finally spoke up.
"There troops on this world that are also scouting for energon, though contact has not been made in almost seven deca-cycles, months, in this worlds account of time," Optimus replied, glancing at Adelaide as he remembered the day that he had met the human. It had been the last Decepticon sighting in a while. "Though, we are always prepared should contact be made."
"Starscream is back on Cybertron," Cliffjumper laughed lightly. "And the cyclops, he's gone for good."
"Shockwave has been terminated?" Optimus questioned in surprise.
Arcee nodded as she looked up at the Prime. "He made a spacebridge. A functional one, too. That's how we ended up here. But he got caught in the explosion after we disrupted the vortex polarity."
"I don't mean to interrupt, but who's Shockwave? I know about Starscream, but not the other guy," Adelaide piped up, rocking on her feeet.
"Shockwave was one of Megatron's most trusted operatives. He was the chief scientist, and was a brutal monster. Of all the Decepticons, I would have to say that Shockwave was the most disturbed," Optimus informed.
"Oh. So it's definitely a good thing he's dead. Got it."
"Other than that though, there's not much else. The only reason we went back to Cybertron was because of Starscream transporting massive amount of energon to the surface, which ended up being for the spacebridge."
Optimus nodded as Cliffjumper concluded his story. "Well, we are glad you are here."
"Glad to be here."
