Sick

Jack coughed as he wrapped his blanket tighter around him. He was wearing long grey pajama pants, a long grey sleeved shirt, white socks, a grey beanie over his head, and he was still cold, even thought it had to be 90° outside. He shivered as he curled up on a corner of the couch, trying to get warm. Suddenly he sneezed, and grabbed a nearby tissue as he fell into another sneezing fit, and then threw the used wad of crumpled tissue in a garbage can that had been placed near him.

"Dis sucks," he muttered to himself, his stuffy nose not helping his speech. His mother would have liked to stay home, but she was needed at the hospital and she assured him she'd be back as soon as possible. Arcee called once to check on him, but hadn't since, and Raf and Miko were still in school. He coughed again as he turned on the TV, flipping to the news and watching out of boredom.

Jack jumped suddenly when a noise suddenly sounded, and he realized he must've fallen asleep. He looked around, seeing the clock had now read 3:15, an hour since his friends got out of school.

The same sound that had woken him up sounded again, and he realized it was the doorbell. He groggily asked who it was, but reluctantly went up to answer the door anyway, knowing they couldn't hear him. He looked through the peephole in the door to see who it was, and saw no other than Miko Nakadai, carrying a basket in her arms.

He smiled a little and shook his head, before unlocking the deadbolt and opening the door, and Miko grinned up at him.

"Wow, Jack, you look like a mess."

"I peel like a bess," he replied with a tired sigh. "What are you doing here? I'b contagious you doe. You coub get sick."

"Eh, I could use the break from school." Miko winked. "Besides, I brought you something," she continued, gesturing briefly to the basket resting in her arms. "Mind if I come in?"

Jack opened the door a bit wider and let her pass, and she walked in, placing the basket on the coffee table that was littered with cold and flu medicine, tissues, and cough drops, among other things.

"What's in da basket?" he asked curiously as he closed the door and sat back down on the couch, immediately wrapping himself up in his blanket again. Miko ignored his question as she looked him up and down.

"Is grey your favorite color or something?"

"As a batter of pact, it id," he replied, pulling the blanket up to his chin and turning off the TV. Miko chuckled, before pulling things out of the basket.

"I didn't know whether you had it or not, but I got you a small package of ramen noodles," Miko announced, holding up said package before placing it next to the tissues. Jack nodded silently, giving her a weak smile.

"I also brought you more tissues, packets of hot chocolate even, and-oh! Here it is!" she smiled to herself, holding up a small bottle.

"It's a family remedy for colds. Homemade by my Grandmother in Japan. I've had it with me ever since I exchanged over, just in case. It really works too."

Jack smiled slightly. Miko's face always lit up when she talked about her homeland and he liked seeing her happy.

Miko stared at the bottle for a few seconds, before going into the kitchen and coming back with a spoon.

"It doesn't taste bad...much," she said, saying the last part quietly. Jack sighed and only lied his head back against the couch in exhaustion, wanting to pass out but not able to.

"Do I have to take it dow?" He muttered, keeping his eyes closed.

"No," Miko replied quietly. "By the way Jack, you're sweating."

"I'b cold," he replied, turning over so his face was in the couch cushions. Miko gave him a look, which he couldn't see.

"You're gonna overheat."

"I'd gonna preeze to dead," he replied, his voice muffled. Miko suppressed a laugh, going over to the couch and sitting on the very edge, before placing a hand on the side of his face.

"You're going to be fine. You're Jackson Darby. You face Decepticons, M.E.C.H. and school, this can't be that bad."

Jack muttered something inaudible, before his body started to relax and go a little limp. Miko shook her head, smiling a little as she ruffled the teen's raven black hair, causing his beanie to fall off his head. She glanced at it, before taking it and plopping it on top of Jack's head with a small chuckle. Jack coughed in his sleep, and Miko got up and picked up her basket and tiptoed toward the door and opened it. She looked back at him with a small smile.

"See you later, Jack-rabbit. Feel better soon."

And she shut the door.
