Movie night part 2,37
Oh god please don't be turning now, here in the living room. He starts breathing heavy and I see his knuckles turning white. I put my hand on his fist and rub my thumb over his knuckles. I look at him not sure what to do or to say right now.
"I can close the curtains,'' I suggest. No, I can't, if I move everyone will be able to see him.
''Do you want to leave? Do you want to swap places?" I whisper while still holding his hand. Can he even move?
I look at his face again, his lips and the muscles around his eyes relax again. His breathing slows down, then he opens his eyes slowly and looks at me. His eyes seem to glow a little. He says nothing and just looks with a blank expression.
When I realize that I'm still holding his hand, to tightly, I slowly let go of his fist.
"Uh ..." well this is awkward.
He relaxes his hand and opens it so that his finger slides between mine. His hands are warm and soft. I press my lips tight, trying to hide my smile while I feel my cheeks warm up.
He sits down relaxed again and turns his body a bit to me, I'm already turned to him.
He just stares with glistening soft eyes. His smile is so beautiful, so sweet and...loving.
I have seen him look at me like this before, but this time is different, this time he doesn't stop himself and I don't look away. I feel like I'm the luckiest girl in the world to be the one receiving this look from him.
I look down at our hands, "It helped," he follows my gaze.
What does he mean? I don't want to say much because I don't know how my voice will react to the fact that we are holding hands. Omg, I'm such a weirdo.
"Your hand," he says and squeezes a little.
Did my hand help? Like he helped me when he healed me?
"Cira, you're my sun,'' He says still the same expression on his face. I smile back. That's sweet, but I don't really get him.
''The moon turns me a wolf and you keep me human, just like the sun."
What? Did me holding his hand made him turn human again?
''But your name already says it,'' he adds and laughs softly.
Cira means sun in Italian. I did not expect him to know that.
I'm glad he thinks it's a good thing, me keeping him human, but I'm not so sure about that.
He turns our hands so that you can see the other side of my arm. I had completely forgotten the scars. He lets go of my hand and leans his elbow on the backrest. With his free hand, he holds my arm again, looking at the scars, and presses on the lines.
"I don't understand," he whispers. I wait for him to continue. "You can't remember anything about how you got here. If it's ascar it should have been here before today, how is it possible that we see this for the first time?"
I don't know. I'm sure they weren't there this morning and I'm pretty sure nothing that could have caused this. They suddenly appeared so maybe they will suddenly disappear.
He shakes his head, "I'll see if I can find something tomorrow." He nods like he is taking a mental node.
I look out the window at the moon. The lace curtains cause me to not see it clearly.
"Did you know where would be a full moon today?" I ask him. Looking back at him. We sit very close now, normally I would have moved back but now I'm not even thinking about it.
He turns his head to also looks outside. When the moonlight hits his face, he immediately turns back around again
"Yeah," he admits, breaking eye contact, looking at my arm, his fingers still going over the lines.
He knew.
"Why did you come?" This is not fun for him, making such an effort to stay human.
"I don't know, I didn't want to be difficult," he half-smile. "And when I heard it's your birthday, I couldn't say no at all."
"We wouldn't think you are ''difficult'' if you said you have something else to do, we would have picked another day. "
He nods and smiles, a half-smile, and looks at our hands.
''What is it?'' I ask when he still doesn't make eye contact.
Still looking down he says: "To be honest, I didn't wanna postpone it." it sounds like he confesses something.
What does he mean by it? Why we have time right? It's not that he is leaving. Was this whole school thing a temporary thing? It's possible because he was originally sent here to discover what I am, now they already know so there isn't a reason for him to stay.
When I'm silent for too long he looks up. He continues talking when he sees my expression.
"I like to spend time with you. Even if we don't talk, like in the library or on the grass, your presence is enough. I want to get to know you better, see your reaction to things, hear your heartbeat rise when I say something or when you don't understand something. "He looks me in the eyes now. I look back at him, smiling and not wanting to look away.
I know for sure now, I'm in love. His eyes are glistening even brighter now. I don't know what to say. I open my mouth to say something, but no sound comes out. I don't want him to feel insulted by not saying anything.
He looks away "Like now." He says laughing.
I breathe out and smile. I look at my hand, put it on my lap and go over the scars. He also puts his hand on his leg again. I don't understand why I feel like this now. Him saying those thinks makes me feel good. Like a bubble of happiness, just pup inside my head and is spreading all over my body. But the fact that I don't know what to say and only act weird makes this uncomfortable. I didn't expect that he would put so much effort into spending time with me.
I hear him breathe out laughing. "Sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. You don't have to say anything." He looks apologetic and runs his hand over the couch.
No, I have to say something. 'I really looked forward to this ev...'
"Cira, can you come over here?" Jade calls from the kitchen. I didn't realize she had got up. "Now!"
That sounds urgent.
"I'll be right back," I say and get up. I almost run to the kitchen.
Omg, he is so perfect. I can't fall in love with him but I don't think I can stop myself anymore. I don't know how this ends. He is a werewolf I am a Vini this doomed to fail.
I walk into the kitchen and see Jade standing by the sink. She fills a carafe with the blue lemonade we all love. When we first saw it we all thought ''What's this''. Then we drank it and it was so delicious.
"Hey Jade, can I help you with something?" She goes to the fridge and takes a lemon out of it.
"Ci, did you hear what Mihno just said?" She looks disappointed. I shake my head.
"When Kendall went to the bathroom, Mihno said that Kendall has a girlfriend." She takes a knife and cuts the lemon into slices.
"No that can't be true, it really looks like he likes you. You are not sure that's true. It's possible that Mihno is wrong." I only believe it if Kendall says so himself. She puts a lemon slice on each glass.
"Why else will Mihno say that?" She looks at me in surprise.
"No idea, I'll ask Kendall tomorrow," I say and lean against the fridge and look at her.
"Yes do that, but don't be obvious," she says while walking to the freezer and looks for ice cubes.
"It's going well ha?" She looks at the living room with a smile. I know she's talking about Jason.
"You like each other, it's so obvious everyone can see it." I take the glasses from the cupboard above me and think.
She laughs,'' What about out motto: No boyfriends, No drama.'' She rolls her eyes. ''For me, it's already drama,''
She walks back into the living room with the carafe. I follow her and put the glasses next to the carafe. Jason was talking to Kendall about a video game or something. His eyes shoot to me when I sit down.
We sit in silence for a while. I don't even pay much attention to the film. I look beside me at how Jade is doing. She's turned away from Kendell. I lean back a little towards her.
"And did he said something else," I whisper, making sure he can't hear us?
She shakes her head.
"Oh, I can ask him tonight, you will know immediately." I offer.
She shakes her head, "No, just do it tomorrow."
I smile and look forward again. I play with my sock rolling it a little.
What would Jason think now?
When the film is over we decide not to watch part 3. In about half an hour everyone will leave again. We just watch TV and hang on the couch. I notice that everyone is running out of energy now. We just talk and laugh. Kendall and Jade start a conversation with Jason about his old school. Jason explains that he is always homeschooled. Danielle always seems very interested when Jason tells something. Everyone is surprised when Jade suddenly turns off the TV.
"Yeah guys it's 10.30 pm, you have to go."
I hear mumbling, Daniëlle stretches out, Sylvana yawns and Kendall slumps.
"Yes guys I know, the movie nights I trow are fun but my parents will be home soon. "Jade says and starts cleaning up the mess on the table. I stack all the bowls. I put the leftovers in the top bowl, pick up the pile and walk to the kitchen.
I look back to see if Jade is following but she is still talking to Kendall. I see Mihno looking at Jade very strangely, jealous or something. Why should Mihno be jealous of Jade? Maybe because of her house, it big so yeah.
I put the bowls on the counter and look through the window. The glass is probably cleaned recently because it seems that there is no glass at all. I look at the houses opposite and see the moon rise over the roofs.
When we have finished cleaning, we all walk outside. I put on my vest again and grab my bag. Minho and Kendall are on the bike because they live a little further.
Sylvana walks completely ahead with Daniëlle and Mihno, still talking about the movie. In front of me walks Kendall and behind me Jason, who walks with his hood over his head and facing the ground. He has his hands in his pockets and says nothing.
Mihno, Daniëlle, and Sylvana look back at the same time.
"Ci, come," Sylvana calls.
Pff, I guess I already know what they are gone say. I walk towards them and Mihno is going to walk next to kendall.
"Hey," I say. Sylvana looks at me with eyes pinched together and a smile.
"So ... you and Jason, ha?" Says Danielle very seriously.
"Yeah ...?" I say with lips tight.
"Are you boyfriend and girlfriend now?" She asks again not hiding her annoyance.
Wow, I think she's really jealous.
"No, you know it's not like that." No, they don't really know that. I don't even know what it's like.
Sylvana looks surprised. But I still feel a little annoyed with Danielle her behavior when it comes to Jason. I should just ask her, right? Right now is the right moment.
''Would it be a problem if we were?'' I ask and make sure I don't hostile. I look at her but she looks away like she is surprised I asked.
''No,'' is all she says.
Sylvana still looks at me, "What do you mean? You like him, he likes you? So why not"
I just smile.
"Sylvana, you have to go right here too, right?" Kendall shouts. "Yes," Sylvana calls back.
"We'll talk again tomorrow," Sylvana says with a smile to me and Danielle.
We greet each other and walk on.
Daniëlle started walking next to Mihno.
I'm going to walk next to Jason. He keeps his eyes on the floor.
"Are you okay?" I ask softly. He nods and breathes in and out heavily. No, that doesn't sound ok. I don't say anything anymore and just keep walking beside him. At the end of the street, Mihno and Daniëlle continue straight on. I have to turn right, and probably Jason too, because he stands still.
"Well we have to go down this street," Mihno says and turns to us. "Yes, I am in this street." I point to the street right from us.
Daniëlle gives me a hug and I hug her back. I'm happy we are good, I guess.
"Thanks again for your presents," I thank her.
"You're welcome!" She is shivering with cold. I didn't even realize it was that cold. They are now looking at Jason. He is still staring at the ground a bit behind us. Uhm what should I say? I turn to them again. I point to my stomach and bite my teeth together. "Bellyache," I say softly. They nod and understand. Then they walk on and we turn the corner.
I'm going to walk next to Jason again. I look at him to see if things are still going well. I can just see his face. His teeth have grown. He closes his eyes and stands still. After a few seconds, he opens them again and is normal again.
"Sorry," he says and we walk on.
'It's OK, I really thought you were about to change back in the living room. "
"Yeah me too," he says with a relieved smile.
"Now it's easier to stay human. I think because you are closer now and because we walk behind houses."
"Why didn't you go home right away when we left the house?" I ask him, I'm pretty sure he could have just ran away and turn somewhere in the woods.
"It's dark and suddenly there are scars on your arm, I'm not going to let you walk alone. I made you a promise, and I'm going to keep that." He says.
Oh... yes, I hope he doesn't take that promise too seriously. There is always a chance something happens, and he can't always be there to save me. I decide not to react to it.
"Right here," I say and point to the street. We walk through the dark streets in silence. Closer to each other than usual.
"How long have you been doing this?" I ask. He looks questioningly at me. ''Not changing.''
He silent for a moment. "This is only the second time." We both look away again and walk in silence. We walk around the corner and are in my street now.
"What are you going to do when you're home?" He asks quietly.
"Uhm I think I will watch TV with my mother and sister, then sleep, you?" I stand still because we stand in front of my house. I'm going to stand against the fence. When Jason noticed, he also stops walking and stands in front off me. He put his hand back in his pockets and looks at my house. I have just a normal house, medium size.
"Hang out with the boys. I also have to see how Mason is doing. I hope he just sleeps. Afterward, also sleep." He says and stretches his arms out.
I grab my phone to see what time it is. It is exactly half-past ten. I have 56 messages from the CIDJS group. I go sit on the fence and put my phone back in my bag.
I look up again to tell him something. But when I do, I look straight into his eyes and immediately forget what I wanted to say. The colors in his eyes have changed. The green has shifted to the outside and the brown to the inside. I lean over to see it better.
"What's wrong?" He laughs uncomfortably but doesn't move away.
"Your eyes, they have changed, the color," I say surprised.
"That's because of the moon," I remember what the others said about Jason's eyes. But seeing it with my own eyes is just mindblowing.
He is now staring at my face.
"They are beautiful." this time I don't feel embarrassed about saying it and just keep staring. I lean back again, but when I do he takes a step closer. He puts his hand on the fence between my arm, which is still in my crutch and, where I'm sitting. He surprised me a little by doing that, not that I mind it.
With a small smile on his face, he asks: "Yeah, are they as beautiful as Jacob's, your" favorite."
I laugh softly, not expecting him to say something about it.
"Jacob who?" I roll my eyes. "I think I have a new favorite." My eyes go over his face, his beautiful eyes, perfect skin, I know his skin is probably soft and warm right now. Then my eyes lower to his lip, his perfect pink lips.
"Do you?" He says with the biggest smirk, his eyes glowing, not leaving my face. His eyes glide over my face and hang on my lips like he is going to kiss me. He is so close right now that I can feel his breath on my skin.
My heart starts beating faster. He places his warm hand on my neck, his eyes are set on my neck too. He can feel my heartbeat, and he probably hears it too. Our eyes meet again and are locked. With his thumb, he traces my jaw and, leans forward.
I pull my arm out of my crutch, so I can grab his unzipped vest, not breaking eye contact. My crutch with the bag with the presents moves. Jason caught it and leaned it against the fence before I realized he was falling. He smiles a little but didn't look away.
He leans in again, so our lips almost touch. Just when his lips are about to be on mine he abruptly pulls away. When I open my eyes he looks a little startled.
"Your mother is coming." His eyes shoot to the house.
I let go of his vest and he takes a step back.
"Oh, okay" I say and stand again with my hand in the crutches.
He keeps staring at me. "Uh ..." he points to the other side of the road. As if he is asking if he should leave.
I calmly shake my head and watch what he does. He runs his hands through his hair and pulls his vest straight. He looks nervously at his hands, afraid that his nails will grow again. He wants to put them back in his pockets and then not. I hear the door open. He quickly puts his hands in his pockets.
"Wow, Cira, right on time." She sounds surprised while she rolls up the cover of her brushes. She was painting, that's clear by looking at her clothing.
When she looks up she sees Jason.
"And hello ...?" Luckily she doesn't say his name or model boy or anything that would tell that have mentioned him. Jason takes a few steps forward so that he is at the door.
He clears his throat. "Good evening ma'am, I'm Jason." He holds out his hand.
My mother smiles and shakes his hand. "I'm Jennifer." She greats him kindly.
I think she only recognizes him now.
"You are new at Einstein College, right?" she asks, leaning against the doorpost.
"Yes, that's right," he confirms, he doesn't seem nervous at all anymore.
"How do you like it so far?"
"It is different than I expected, but in a good way. It's nice to meet people my age." He explains. He runs his hand through his hair again. He really does that a lot.
"Oh, yes, homeschooled." My mom reminds herself.
Jason takes a step back, away from the door. He puts his hands back in his pockets.
"Uhm ... yes, that's right." He says again and frowns for a moment.
I can't suddenly grab his hand now. So I walk to the door and lean against the wall, facing him. He looks up and smiles briefly.
I hear Grace running down the stairs. She walks over to us almost pushes my mother against the door to see what happens in the front yard.
Jason looks up and holds out his hand when she is in the doorway.
"Hey, I'm Jason," he says. Grace shakes his hand. "Graciella." She looks at him with eyes narrowed because it is quite dark outside. When he moves a little and the light from inside hits his face the expressing on her face goes straight from "uh who is that" to "Ohhh."
"Yes, I thought, I would walk Cira home, it's getting dark," he says when it's silent. He looked up at the word dark.
"That's very chivalrous of you." My mother says with a grateful smile.
He also smiles, "I think I should go too."
"Yes, it's really late and dark." My mom says in the typical mother way.
He nods. "It was nice to meet you." He says to my mother and sister.
Then he turns to me, and I can't help the smile on my face.
"Thank you for walking with me and your gift," I say and smile. I haven't thought about his gift anymore. I should have said that it what too much because it is.
I see my mother and sister looking out of the corner of my eye.
He smiles back. "Sure,'' he rocks from his heel to toe, ''Well, sleep well," he winks, while he laughs, and puts on his hood.
God. Did he have to wink?
Omg, he's so perfect I just want to scream now. I bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from, dowing that.
''You too, "I say back.
We look at each other for one more second before he walks away, in the opposite direction we came from.
We walk back inside.
