Hang out, 28
I walk in the school with a mission, telling Jason someone else knows about him too. I have no idea what will happen when I do wand what his reaction will me. I like the way we are now, talking like normal people. I don't want it to change, him being mad at me and not trusting me anymore. The sooner I've said it, the sooner I'll know.
I walk into the school and put my coat in my locker. I concentrate on what the teacher say and listen to Jade talking about how boring it was to be sick.
When the lunch-breaks start I walk to the hall and see Jason sitting on the same bench he was sitting yesterday with that girl. Only now there are 4 junior girls in front of him. They are all laughing and the middle one with the hoodie dress on is talking. Jason leans against the table and listens to what they have to say.
I doubt if I have to wait until they are gone or just go. I walk to the bench but the girls are standing in front of Jason so I can't see him.
"Excuse me... sorry,'' I say while squeezing myself among the girl without waiting for an answer. The girl with the hoodie stopped talking and they all look at me irritated.
''Do you have a minute?'' When Jason sees me his eyes light up.
"Always for you. "He says and stands up.
Wow, he is in a good mood, which I'm gonna ruin in a minute. I smile briefly and walk in the direction of the bench we sat on yesterday.
"Sorry," I hear him say too the girls.
''Jason, I have to tell you something." My serious tone makes his face change, he now also looks serious again.
"What is it?" He asks and sits down.
"Well, um ..." This is harder than I thought. The guild starts growing. I stare at him, seeing the concern in his eyes.
''Are you feeling OK?'' he asks when I sat silent.
Cira just tell him. I can't look at him while I say it so I look down to the floor.
"There is someone else who knows about you." I don't look up till I hear him say: "Ohw ..."
That's all he says. I look up at him looking at his hands with a straight face. He doesn't look mad, he looks emotionless.
"The first time I saw you was the weirdest moment of my life. I didn't know what to do. I had to tell someone. That person I told didn't really believe me. When you came to school, I panicked. I told that person that you were the boy I saw in the forest, but from that moment on I decided not to say anything anymore. I said I was mistaken and I think that person believes it.
His facial expression didn't change while I was talking. He still doesn't look at me and looks lost in thoughts. This is worse than him being mad at me. I feel so stupid right now for telling someone.
"Sorry, I didn't expected this to happen. If I could do something to make it right I would."
I keep looking at his face, hoping he will say something.
"It is logical that you have told someone. You saw something that doesn't exist in your world. That person only knows that you once thought I was a werewolf. That is hard to prove. "I nod.
"Okay then it's not that bad, I guess. She knows it quite a while now and she hasn't told anyone yet. And if she did, nobody would believe her. "Jason still looks doubtful.
He's not mad, Weird. After a few seconds, I see a small smile appear on his lips.
"But yes, there is something you can do to make it up to me." He finally looks at me, I have no idea what he is talking about. It's not that I can erase her memory or something, can it?
"What?" I look at him in suspicious of the smile.
"What do you usually do with your friends?"
"Uhm, not much, we usually just hang out in the mall or watch a movie at someone's house."
"Okay, let's do that." He looks questioningly at me.
''What?" Does he want to hang out? He now looks doubtful.
"Hang out.'' I rais an eyebrow at him, why would he want to hang out? He looks doubtful now and the smile disappears. I'm silent for too long.
"Okay, sure," I say and smile.
He smiles back, "Hang out with some friends, your friends. "He fiddles with the choir of her bag.
I nod, ''What has this to do with someone knowing about you?''
He has a grin on his face now, ''nothing,'' he answers.
I laugh and look away.
The bell is ringing so we walk in the direction of the stairs. I see the diary in my bag.
"I brought the book with me," I say. He turns on he heals to face me.
I have a free period today.
"Do you have class the 6th hour?"
"No, 6th and 7th I have a free period," he says.
"Okay, I'll see you in the library," I say.
He nods, laughs and walks up the stairs again. I walk to my class. It doesn't take long for me to spot Jade sitting in the corner. We have a free lesson again so we can sit where we want.
"Hey," I put my bag on the floor and pack my things while I sit down next to Jade.
"Hey," She has already started her computer. I turn mine one too and watch the screen flicker for a moment.
Let me ask Jade first. I hope she wants to hang out with Jason, she thought Jason was weird at first, but I don't know if she still things that.
"Jade, Jason asked if we would like to hang out. Just watch a movie or something like that with the others. "I turn to her.
"Yes, that's a great idea, we haven't had a movie night in a long time.'' She responds excitedly. ''Being sick was so boring." She adds. Her phone is already in her hand. That was easy.
"I'm home alone Thursday and Friday. You can come to my house."She looks at me again.
''Yes, great!'' The teacher is also walking around this area.
''I'm sending the other one a message okay? "She's already starting typing.
"No, wait." I push her phone down a little. She looks quriously at me.
"It would be weird if Jason is the only boy." I say and smile at her, hoping she understands where I'm going with this.
"Oh yeah right, too bad we don't really have boys friends.'' She says and thinks. Okay she didn't understand me.
"Ask Kendall."
She looks shocked at me. "Are you serious, no Cira, I really won't do that." She says and looks at me as if I have gone mad.
''Why not? It's not like you are asking him on a date. We are going to hang out with a whole group."
"He can also bring a friend, so we have another boy." She looks doubtful, there is actually no reason not to ask him. She puts her phone down and stands up. Omg, she is gonna do it. A seconds later she sits down again.
"No, I'm really not going to ask him. You do it." She says and looks over my shoulder at Kendall.
''All right.'' She looks surprised when I get up.
"What day?" She can decide because it is her house.
"Thursday, I can't wait until Friday." She says. I turn around and walk towards Kendall. Fortunately, the seat next to him is free. He looks up when I'm sitting down.
"Heyy," he says kindly and turns my way.
"Hey Kendall, would you like to hang out on Thursday? Jade, I and a few other friends go to Jades to watch a movie. If you want, you can also bring a friend." He thinks for a moment.
"Yes, that sounds like fun, is it okay if I ask Mihno?"
"Sure, Jade will text you the time and address," I say and get up again.
"OK," he says cheerfully.
I smile and walk back to Jade who already looks at me.
"And, and, and, what did he say?" She whispers. "He's coming," I say laughing. "I told him you will send him the time and address." She laughs. "Omg," she rubs her legs with her hands nervously and thinks.
Now she picks up her phone and sends a message to the others.
Jade:
Hey girls, wanna have a movie night at my house on Thursday evening?
I also look at my phone to see what they will say. They respond very quickly as if they were already on their phone.
Danielle:
Yes fun! I am present.
Indira:
Yasss!
Sylvana:
Yes I can too! What should I bring? Chips or Popcorn?
Jade:
You don't have to take anything with you.
We talk a bit about which movie we should watch. Then I decide to work on the paper we started last week, trying to make a nice running story of the information but it is so boring. I don't want a standard paper but one that stands out and has nice new things in it. Friday, when we have to continue working on the paper, I will look for information in the library.
"Yes, hand in!" Says a loud voice from behind us. Jade and I turn around and see a Mr. Benner stands behind us and looks at the cell phone in Jade's hand.
"But sir, I had to look up something ..." Jade says quickly.
"No excuses, you wanted to look up something on your phone while you have a computer in front of you." He says and raises an eyebrow.
Yeah, Jade that was not the best excuse.
Jade squeezes her lips together. Mr. Benner holds out his hand. She hands it over, defeated.
"You can come and pick it up after class." He says before walking away.
''Basterd," Jade grumbled, looking annoyed at her computer. She now logs in while the lesson is over in 7 minutes.
"He will give me a speech about why it isn't allowed to be on your phone and read all the school rules." She rolls her eyes.
When the bell rings I walk to the library. Jason and I are arriving at the same time. He walks with that girl from his class. I hardly recognize her. She is wearing tight jeans with a black top and a leather jacket. Her hair is in a high tight tail and she has new glasses. She looks cute, like she had a makeover.
When Jason sees me he greets the girl and walks over to me. He follows me to the part of the library I always sit. I show him the spot the books fell when we walk past it. We sit down in silence as I give him the diary. He studies it before opening it. Slowly he browses through the pages and then looks at me.
"It's empty," he says. I take the book from him and scroll to the first page. I see the text I saw the other days.
"Here," I point to the lines. He looks at the page but shakes his head. He takes the book again and keeps it in the light.
"I think that only you can read it." He hands me the book again. He doesn't see it?
"Can you read it out loud?" I nod and take the book from him.
''The lines are from two people, one Vini lived in 1550 and another in 1921." I look at he first page where all the lines of the Vini from 1550 are. ''This is the lines of the first one: It all became clear. I shall never trust anyone again. And: Boys who turn into wolfs. And: I'm not a normal human being he said. Elegast told me that there was someone like me before, he called her a Vini. '' I scroll through to pages till I find the other handwriting.
''The second one says: I found out that the world around me is anything but normal I thought I was going crazy but now everything is clear, there are things people don't know off. And: werewolves exist."
I look up to see him looking at me in silence.
''So there were three before you. The two handwritings and the one Elegast was talking about.''
I nod and look back at the book.
"I think it's better to put the book back," Jason says. No emotion can be read from his face.
I look up at him "Why this diary gives me information."
He gently takes the book from me and closes it.
"Cira, you don't know the dangers of this kind of magic. The information you read can be imprinted in your head in such a way that you will believe everything you read, even if it is not true. It is just like a kind of hypnosis." He walks to the cupboard where the book was first and places it back in exactly the same place without giving me a chance to say something.
How do we know if that diary contains bad magic? There is almost no information about what I am, only that book can tell me something. I turn so I lean against the wall and put my feet and bag on the chair Jason sat in before. I pull out my sketchbook and some pencils.
We are sitting at a kind of long table against the wall all the way back in the building, a row of windows allowing us to look outside. There is not much, just a parking lot.
Jason reappears between the racks. I look away when he looks at me. The fact that he just dictated to put the book back annoys me. I didn't even have a say in it. He sits down a seat further.
He is turned towards me and looks at me. I pretend I don't notice it and just continue with my sketch.
He gives up and grabs a book. I look up and see a small smile on his face. He thing it's funny? He looks back at me and caught me looking at him, I quickly look away. He turns to me again.
''You're mad at me?'' He says with the same small smile, like this amusing him.
I shake my head and shrug like I don't care.
''Well you are ignoring me.''
''No, I'm not,'' I respond still not making eye contact. I would be kind of immature to ignore him.
"Hum, okey,'' I feel his eyes on me before he turn back.
We sit in silence for half an hour. I draw he is on his phone and learning. When my drawing is ready, I look up and see that Jason has put everything away and is now sitting with a notebook in front of him and writing something down.
''What are you doing?" I take my feet off the chair so I can see it better.
"I write down what was in that diary." He says without looking up.
''Why?'
"I write down all the information I get about things like this." I put my sketchpad aside.
"It would be easier if we kept the diary," I say in an annoyed tone.
He finally looks up and stops writing, no smile on his face now. "We don't know much about you yet." He begins in a quiet tone, "What if that diary chases something to happen to you, I wouldn't know how to fix you. I don't wanna take that risk, sorry."
We look at each other without saying anything. My attitude is gone knowing his reason for putting the diary away. He did it for my own good. I can feel the smile on my face as I continue with a sketch.
