Chapter Thirteen.

I checked the clip in my gun...Full. But i wouldn't dare start picking off any of these walkers, where there are hundreds of them only yards away from me. I ducked down closer to the ground and took off running in the direction of the farm, hoping not to be seen this way....But after running for about five minutes I got cut off by a small pack of them. I quickly took my knife off of my hip and stabbed one, pulling my knife out and running in the opposite direction.

Where the heck were these walkers coming from...there were so many of them...The last time I saw this many of them together it was when I wandered into Atlanta earlier in the year. I was breathing heavily as I ran as fast as i could towards a direction of the farm where there weren't that many of them, but they were like popping out of the ground as fast as they appeared. I stopped for a second to catch my breath, and barely avoided a female walker that was directly in front of me.

Soon enough I could see the barn was engulfed in flames, the flames retreating into the sky by at least twenty feet. Someone must have set it on fire in hopes of distracting the walkers. It was working for a lot of them, as most that were behind me changed direction, But a lot of them didn't care as they had a full course meal right in front of their drooling faces.

There were five walkers hot on my tail, and I knew if I didn't take care of them soon I would die. I hesitated for a moment, but then took my pistol back out of its holster. I started running backwards, hoping and praying none of them would sneak up behind me. I aimed carefully at each of their heads, picking them off one by one. I could hear gunshots in the distance, and the rumbling of engines, and I was hoping that the group wouldn't forget me and leave me behind.

After i took care of the five walkers that were following, one had snuck up on my side and taken me down to the ground. I was so in shock I didn't even fight back for a second. I yelled out knowing it was useless, but screamed anyway. I shoved the walker off of me with all the strength I had, and shoved my knife in its head, right between the eyes. I wiped some of the blood that spouted onto my face off of me and kept on running...

I ended up at the barn about ten minutes later, and I couldn't seen anyone around. I could see the green Hyundai that Shane drove, driving around the house..It didn't look like it was leaving which gave me hope they didn't forget about me. There were a few dozen walkers burning "Alive" inside of the inflamed barn. Many of them were busy banging on the side of the barn to even notice I was around them.

I heard someone screaming off to my left and I took off in that direction. I saw Carol backed against the stables trying to fight off a walker with a plank of wood. "Carol!" I shouted and sprinted in her direction. I shot the walker that was attacking her, and it fell down to the ground in front of her. I tried shooting a second one that had appeared on her right, but my gun clicked signifying I was out of ammo. "Shit....Carol run!" I yelled to her. She looked hesitant as I pulled an arrow out of my quiver and shot a walker that was chasing her. "GO!" I yelled motioning for her to run towards the house. She nodded and took off running as fast as her legs could take her.

I shot about four walkers with my bow, and realized i couldn't even make a dent before I ran out of arrows....i only had about five left, and I needed to make them count. I yelled as I felt my hair being pulled from behind and I fell backwards onto the ground, a walker growling in my ear trying to make me dinner. It had its mangy hand entangled in my hair, and it was completely stuck. I reached back with my knife and cut off my pony tail, freeing me from the walker. I then took the knife and stabbed it repeatedly in the skull.

I felt my now short hair fall just around the bottom of my head, tickling my neck. I cried and sunk to the ground as i realized that nobody was going to help me, I was going to die here torn apart by walkers. I didn't want to die this way, I didn't want to have my insides ripped apart painfully as I waited for the glory of death.

But something clicked...I looked down at the knife in my hand that was covered in blood...It smelled awful, not like normal human blood...but like a corpse that had been sitting out in the sun for a few days. I quickly took my knife and cut open the walkers abdomen, ripping out its intestines in the process. I grabbed as much walker blood as I could in my hands and rubbed it all over my body. The blood was cold and smelled so badly. I wanted to vomit all over myself to mask the stench of death, but I knew that wouldn't work.

My body was drenched in the crimson liquid, and I yanked part of the intestines out and rapped it around my bow. Dipping each of my arrows in the blood as well...its safe to say I looked like I walked out a horror movie. I stood up with my intestine lined bow and started walking towards the house. My plan was working, none of the walkers were paying me any attention. The scent of their own blood was keeping them away from me.

I started to jog, careful not to let the blood and guts fall off of my body. When I got to the house, I walked right past two walkers, as if they were two pedestrians on the street, who were too busy to pay me any mind. They just looked around aimlessly...trying to find food. "Anyone here?" I called out into the house, thankfully none of the walkers had made it inside yet. I didn't get any response, and when I went back outside I saw that all of the cars were gone. I felt myself crying, as they had in fact forgotten about me, and i doubt any of them would be coming back for me....

I finally peeled myself off of the floorboards of the Green's home and made my way down the driveway, hoping to maybe make it to the highway by morning....

Daryl's POV:

The farm was in chaos, there were walkers everywhere....I was sitting on my bike watching the burning fire that was the barn, when I heard the loud screech of a woman. I revved my engine and turned around following the voice..For the past two hours all I could think about was Emma...nobody knew where she was, and the last time someone saw her it was still light out.

Maggie said she had gone to patrol the perimeter shortly after I had gone to help Rick find Shane, who had disappeared earlier in the day. There was something about Emma that just drew me in...She wasn't like other women I had met in my life...She was strong, confident and beautiful even in the Apocalypse. There were dead people running around the world, but my attention was captured by that blue eyed, brunette. My brother would be all up my ass if he knew my mind was wandering to a  "Worthless woman" As he would call it.

But Emma was anything but that,  she saved my life...I owed her everything in the world, without her I wouldn't even be here right now. She proved to me that she was willing to do anything in the world to protect the people she cared about...and i wished the group understood that was what she did with Randall...Because I would have done that myself...

Deep in my gut I knew something was wrong...I knew Emma could handle herself, but not against a herd this side. I felt something really strong for her, something I never felt before...And I knew I would never be the same if something happened to her...I needed to find her.

I drove to the area where I heard the scream, and was slightly disappointed when i saw it was Carol. "I ain't got all day!" I shouted to her as several walkers were hot on her tail. She climbed on the back quickly and yelled for me to leave. I hesitated for a moment before driving in the direction off of the farm. I kept looking around hoping to find a glimpse of Emma's pretty head running around, her bow sticking out from her back. I had no such luck and kept driving to get Carol off of the farm, swearing to myself I would come back to find her if she didn't come back....one way or another, I wanted to know what happened to her...

It was daylight by the time I made it back to the highway..the spot where we left supplies for Sophia on a broken down car. I could see Rick, Carl, Hershel and Shane standing around the red SUV that they had on the farm. Carol jumped off quickly before hugging Hershel, Rick and Carl...Shane seemed to be standing awkwardly off to the side.

The green Hyundai and blue pickup truck pulled up behind me, It was sad to say, but I was only looking for one person in any of these cars. I saw Lori and Beth jump out of the truck and head towards Rick and Hershel. Maggie, Glenn and Dale soon followed greeting everyone.

"Where is the rest of us?" Glenn asked, looking around with a shotgun in his hand. "Where's Andrea?" Shane asked, finally saying something after ignoring everyone. Nobody answered. "Where's Emma?" I asked. once again nobody answered. "Patricia?" Hershel asked, his arms wrapped around his daughters.

"They took her right form me daddy" Beth whimpered, hiding her face in her fathers chest. "Emma saved me, and then I didn't see her again" Carol said from beside me. I jumped at the mention of Emma's name. I looked back, hoping to see her just strolling down the highway towards us, but nothing was there. "Im going back for her" i said shifting my crossbow on my back, and hopping on my bike. "Daryl, no...shes either not there anymore...or shes dead" Rick said letting his head fall. "Emma's tough, she had to make it!" Carl said jerking away from his father.

"We spent weeks looking for Sophia! Were just gonna give up on Emma and Andrea after a few minutes!?" I shouted, getting furious very quickly. "You do whatever you want, Im going back for them" I growled at Rick, revving my engine and heading back down the highway, I was going to find my girl....

Emma's POV:

I had been walking for what felt like days...the sun had risen higher and higher with every hour that passed. The blood had almost completely dried on my body, but it was still working on keeping the walkers at bay..They would just walk beside me like I was one of them, one of the dead...I sure smelled like one.

I was beyond the point of exhaustion by the time i got down the road from the Greene's farm. I was limping from a twisted ankle, I had fallen on the dirt road leading to the farm and sprained my foot pretty bad. I had a cut across my forehead from one of my arrows..sweat had gotten into my eyes and couldn't judge my depth perception when I was trying to load my bow. I looked and felt like shit...and i could only hope the group was where they said they would be if we got separated...

About twenty minutes passed when I heard the roaring of an engine...a motorcycle to be exact... I could have sworn I was dreaming it, until I saw that gorgeous redneck on the Harley, his crossbow on his back. "Daryl" I whimpered, waving a hand at him. He drove right past me, but not before doing a double take to look right at me. I turned back to him, and he stopped his motorcycle. He jumped off and pointed his crossbow right at me. "Thought you said you wouldn't let me go" I said as loud as my dry throat would let me. I dropped my bow on the ground, the walkers guts splattering across the concrete.

"Emma?" He asked, swinging his crossbow onto his back. "In the flesh" I said motioning to my horrific looking body. Daryl walked towards me slowly, as if trying to make sure I was really here. He looked me up and down and honestly looked scared. He was right in front of me, and reached out to touch me several times before dropping his arm by his side. "Its camo Daryl" I sighed, wiping some of the blood form my arms and wiping it on my jeans. "The only way I could escape" I whispered.

Suddenly my ankle gave out when i accidentally put all my pressure on my bad foot, but i didn't hit the ground, as Daryl had wrapped his arms around me. "I got ya" He whispered in my ear. "Please don't leave me Daryl" I said softly, realizing how tired my body finally was. A night of fighting off walkers and running for your life will take its toll on you. "Ill never leave you...I promise" Daryl said, holding me in his arms. he placed a gentle kiss on my bloody forehead before everything went to black...
