Swan Song; the Finale
(I wrote this before season 11, just saying...)
________
"You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it." - Unknown
"It never occurred to them that, sure, maybe they never really had a roof and four walls... But they were never, in fact, homeless." - Chuck Shurley
EMERY STOOD IN THE CEMETERY, STANDING with her head down as Lucifer and Michael were getting ready. It was weird to see Sam's body as a puppet. With Adam taking the spot as Michael's vessel, who was supposed to be Dean. Michael had just arrived and the two were staring at each other. Lucifer had this weird obsession with her, had since the starting of this whole thing. That's the only reason she was here.
And it might have been the fact that the reason she had chose to become a Pulcherrimam was because her and Lucifer might have had a thing. But she didn't like to think about that lifetime. It wasn't her anymore. She would always love Dean.
"It's good to see you, Michael," Lucifer told him, after the small silence that had occurred.
"You too," Michael said, his voice curt. His eyes focused on Emery, giving her a small nod. "Amara."
Emery cringed at her angel name, shaking her head. "You, of all people, should know I don't go by that anymore. I am in love with your true vessel, as you know."
Michael did the very Michael thing and ignored the girl, turning back to Lucifer. "It's been too long."
"You believe it's finally here?" Lucifer retorted, his eyes never leaving Michael's form.
"No, not really," Michael said as he walked forward a couple of steps, closer to his little brother. Once he was a safe distance away, he sighed through his nose, his straight face weird. From the short amount of time Emery had known Adam, the youngest Winchester was known to be brooding. "Are you ready?"
Lucifer took a deep breath in, his shoulders moving up and down with the inhale and exhale. His mouth stayed in the straight line it seemed to be in ever since Lucifer had taken over Sam, and Emery started to miss that small smile he had. "As I'll ever be. Part of me wishes we didn't have to do this."
"You don't have to," Emery spoke up, looking between the two brothers. "God hasn't been home in years. We can rip up the ending and write a new one."
"You know we can't, Amara," Michael said, looking at his brother with sad eyes. "Yeah, me too." It was the statement that went along with Lucifer's. Emery closed her eyes, scared to be caught in the crossfire of this whole thing. She didn't know why Lucifer wanted her here. He had lost her when he fell from Heaven. He knew this and had accepted it (or should have).
"Then why are we?" Lucifer said, making Emery throw up her hands. That's exactly what she had said, why didn't he just agree with her?
"Oh, you know why! I have no choice after what you did," Michael said, ignoring the tiny tantrum Emery was having as she kicked the ground angrily. All the angels (except for Cas) seemed to piss her off.
"What I did? What if it's not my fault."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Think about it. Dad made everything. Which means he made me who I am. God wanted the Devil."
"So?"
"So, why? And why make use fight? I just can't figure out the point."
"What's your point?"
"We're going to kill each other and for what? One of Dad's tests? We don't even know the answer. We're brothers. Let's just walk off the chest board."
Emery felt the frustration consume her, her fingers knitting in her hair and pulling at it. They were so stupid. She literally just said that and they ignored her. These brothers were worse then Sam and Dean, she swore. At least the Winchesters would have sorta listened to her. Though, it seemed they never did, even when she had told Sam to not hang around Ruby or either of them to not do anything stupid.
They did stupid things all the time.
Michael seemed to think about it for a second, moving his eyes away from Lucifer and to the field of graves around him. When he turned back to his younger brother, he spoke, "I'm sorry, but I can't do that. I'm a good son and I have my orders."
"You don't have to follow them."
"You think I'm gonna rebel? Now?! I'm not like you."
"Please, Michael."
"No, you haven't changed a bit, little brother. Always blaming everybody but yourself. We were together. We were happy. But you betrayed me -all of us- and you made our father leave."
Flashes of Sam and Dean's life went off in Emery's head. She didn't see Adam standing there, instead she saw the eldest Winchester brother. It broke her heart to see that, them fighting. It always did. It annoyed her because they were so lucky to have family that cared about them and she didn't have anything. She didn't have blood that cared about her as much as they did for each other. She also saw John leaving them and her heart started to break in her chest.
It just hurt.
"No one makes Dad do anything! He is doing this to us!"
There was a small pause between the brothers, one that made Emery look up from where she had been kicking the ground with her toe. They were staring at each other like they were when Michael had showed up, faces straight. Didn't these angels show emotions?
"You're a monster, Lucifer. And I have to kill you."
"If that's the way it's gotta be," there was a pause, one where Lucifer gulped. "Then I'd like to see you try."
They stared at one another, before they started walking in a circle around each other. They made it half way, before they stopped and stared again. Emery sighed, shaking her head. "You guys are the most monotonous people I have ever met, I swear."
Suddenly, the sound of a revving engine was heard and Emery turned around to see that shiny black Impala she loved so much. Dean was in the front seat, staring at the three of them as he turned on a classic rock song.
Michael and Lucifer were staring at the car too, each with their straight facial expressions as Emery smiled widely. When it stopped a few feet away from the group of them, Emery ran forward and hugged Dean, feeling him wrap his arms around her body. When they pulled away, Dean wrapped his arm around Emery's shoulder as he looked at Michael and Lucifer.
"Howdy, Boys," the Angels didn't answer, only stared at Dean as the rock song continued to blast from the speakers of the Impala. "I'm sorry, am I interrupting something?"
When nobody answered him, he shut off the music and then walked away from the Impala, Emery staying put by the door. "Hey, we need to talk."
Lucifer glanced over at Michael, who looked back over at Lucifer, who looked back at Dean. He then nodded his head slightly, before greeting the hunter. "Dean." He then looked down at the ground for a second, before looking up again. "Even for you, this is a whole new mountain of stupid."
"I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to Sam," Dean said and Emery walked forward at that, latching her hand with Dean's.
"You're no longer the vessel, Dean. You got no right to be here," Michael said, his eyes flashing to Emery and Dean's intertwined hands before landing back on Dean's face.
"Adam, if you are still in there, I am so sorry," Dean said, making Emery rub her thumb around in circles on Dean's hand. Trying to give him some comfort.
"Adam isn't home right now."
"Well, then you are next on my list, Buttercup, but right now I need five minutes with him."
"You little maggot-"
"Michael!" Emery protested, looking at Michael in shock. He was usually the normal, polite-ish one. Lucifer would be calling people names.
"-you are no longer apart of this story!"
"Hey!" The attention went from Dean, to the Angel in the Trench Coat himself. Emery almost found herself running to Cas to kiss him, but she stayed in her spot beside Dean, because honestly, she was a little confused, too. "Assbutt."
He threw a glass bottle at Michael, it breaking and setting the Angel alight. Emery cringed at the sounds of Michael's pained screams as the vessel burned, making Michael disappear from the Earth.
"Assbutt?" Dean asked, looking at Cas in confusion.
"He'll be back," was Cas' retort, nodding his head. "And upset, but you got your five minutes."
"Castiel," Lucifer said, his tone of voice a little angry. He took two steps forward toward the Angel. "Did you just Molotov Cocktail my brother? With Holy Fire?"
"Uh, no," Cas said, making Emery almost laugh. He totally just used the Winchester logic, but then she realized that he was probably about to die. And she couldn't do anything to stop it.
"Nobody dicks with Michael. But me," Lucifer said, before snapping his fingers. Cas exploded, his flesh, blood, and guts spraying everywhere. Emery stood shocked as she stared at the place he had been, eyes wide and mouth open.
Dean got over the shock first and turned to Lucifer. "Sammy, can you hear me?"
"You know," Lucifer said, turning to look at Dean now. "I've tried to be nice, for Sammy's sake, but you are such a pain in my ass." Lucifer was now in front of Dean, grabbing onto the leather jacket he was wearing. Emery looked at Lucifer, about to protest, but it was too late. Dean's fingers were ripped from her grasp as Lucifer threw him back into the windshield of the Impala, the glass spider-webbing at his point of impact.
Lucifer started walking forward to Dean, Emery trying to stop him by grabbing onto his wrist as a gun shot went off. Emery almost face-palmed as she saw the bullet land in Lucifer's shoulder, before the Angel was facing the culprit. Bobby.
Another shot was delivered to the chest, making Sam's body bleed through the jacket he was wearing. Bobby shrugged at Dean. Emery closed her eyes as she heard the breaking of his neck (thanks to Lucifer) and Dean yelling in protest.
"Yes," Lucifer said, before grabbing Dean's foot and pulling him off the hood of the car and punching him in the face.
"Lucy, stop it!" Emery protested, running around the car hood to the two males. She was ignored by both of them, however, making her sigh. Why did she even try?
"Sammy, are you in there?" Dean asked, making Emery close her eyes.
She opened them at the sound of Sam's voice, though she knew Lucifer was talking. "Oh, he's in here all right."
Emery watched helpless as Dean was fed another punch to the face by Lucifer, the blow making him fall against the Impala. "And he's gonna feel the snap of your bones!"
Another punch was delivered, making Emery yell out as Dean dropped to the ground. She was crying now, knowing she couldn't save Dean. Emery was going to lose him all over again and she wasn't sure that she could do this.
"Every single one."
Lucifer walked over to Dean, picked him up and pushed him up against the side of the Impala. "We're gonna take our time." An onslaught of punches came, Emery watching as Dean become unrecognizable due to the injuries. When Lucifer stopped for a second, however, the idiot tried to talk.
Emery scrambled forward then, grabbing Lucifer's arm to push him away.
"Sammy, it's okay, it's okay. I'm here, I'm here. I'm not gonna leave you."
Emery was pushed away, watching as another punch was delivered to Dean's face. She was helpless, useless right now. She hated it. Emery couldn't go against Lucifer and win, not right now. She had to wait.
"I'm not gonna leave you!" Dean said. And suddenly Lucifer stopped. They all watched, waiting for him to do something, punch Dean, finally kill him. Emery didn't know which was worse, watching Dean get hurt or watching him die all over again.
It wasn't until Sam's fist uncurled did she realized the Winchester had gained control of his body again. Emery rushed forward, catching Dean as Sam stumbled back, letting go of him. The brunette set Dean on the ground gently, leaning him against the Impala as she ran her fingers through his hair once.
"It's okay, Dean. It's gonna be okay," Sam said, looking at the man on the ground. "I got him." Sam then dug into his pocket, grabbing the rings and throwing them on the ground, opening up the cage. Suddenly, Sam clutched his head in pain, making Emery realized something. She placed a kiss on Dean's forehead, whispering something in his ear before getting up and walking forward.
Emery gently grabbed Sam's cheeks, making him look into his eyes, before nodding her head. She lead him over to the hole that lead to the cage, a sad smile on her face.
"Sam! Amara!" Adam's voice hit Emery's ears, making her turn to see Michael as Adam standing a few feet away. "It's not gonna end this way. Step back!"
"You're gonna have to make us!" Emery shouted, grabbing Sam's hand and squeezing it.
"I have to fight my brother, Amara! Here and now! It's my destiny!"
Emery looked at Dean, before looking over at Sam. Her eyes landed back on Dean, before nodding at him once. She turned back to Michael. "My name's not Amara. It's Emery Wilson, you dick."
With that, she hugged Sam, feeling his arms wrap around her as they both started teetering backwards. Emery felt peace as she fell, even as Michael grabbed onto the two of them to try to stop them. The momentum they had dragged the other Archangel in with them.
As the air rushed by their ears, Emery whispered in Sam's, "We got him."
Up on Earth, Dean watched as the hole that Sam, Emery, and Michael just fell down closed with a flash of light. His head leaned back against the Impala as he thought about the words that Emery had whispered to him, his heart breaking.
"We sacrifice for the things we love. You have been the hero more times I can count, I think it's my turn to be the hero. I love you, Dean. I'll be seeing you."
"Endings are hard. Any chapped ass monkey with a keyboard can poop out a beginning, but endings are impossible. You try to tie up every lose end, but you never can. The fans are always gonna bitch, there is always gonna be holes, and since it's the ending it's all supposed to add up to something, I'm telling you, they're a raging pain in the ass. This is the last time Dean and Bobby will be seeing each other for a very long time. And, for the record, at this point next week, Bobby will be hunting a Rougarou outside of Dayton. But not Dean. Dean didn't want Cas to save him. Every part of him, every fiber he's got wants to die or find a way to bring Sam and Emery back. But he isn't gonna do either. Because he made a promise. So, what's it all add up to? It's hard to say. But me, I'd say this was a test... For Sam, Dean, and Emery. And I think they did all right. Up against good, evil, angels, devils, destiny, and God himself. They made their own choice. They chose family. And, well, isn't that kind of the whole point? No doubt, endings are hard. But, then again... nothing ever really end so, does it?"

She was super supportive, even and has given me inspiration to do this.
I'd also like to acknowledge Layla ( wintersoIdier ). She has been here since the beginning of this journey, and actually was my first friend on this website. She has been with me for all my crazy ideas with Emery, and I love her to death for putting up with me.
