The River
When the two vans parked near the river, and everyone got out, they all excitedly set up their area on the shore.
Evelyn wasted no time, and took off her oversized sweater to reveal her bathing suit, which was a lavender bikini with small white flowers. Jesse followed and took his shirt off before running into the river, and Evelyn dragged Abigail in, who wore her swim suit but refused to get in the lake.
"You comin in Cy?" Ethan looked over at Cypress, who stood at the shore while Ethan stood in the water, "it's nice."
Cypress backed up and shook his head, he seemed gloomy.
"Alright well, Mickey and Mavis are doing s'mores, you should hang with them!" Ethan smiled, then looked over when the football landed next to him, he turned around at Jesse, "did you try to hit me?!"
"Yeah! Sorry." Jesse shrugged, and Ethan laughed before throwing it back at him, when he turned to look at Cypress, he saw that he was sitting down with Mickey and Mavis.
"Mickey stop catching the marshmallows on fire!" Mavis took the stick from Mickey and blew it out, "it's gonna melt everywhere!"
"But I like them burnt!" Mickey took the charred Marshmallow off and shoved it in his mouth, "it makes it shmoky..."
"Ugh, gross." Mavis rolled her eyes and handed Cypress a stick and a Marshmallow, "here." She smiled.
"I'm fine..." Cypress looked at the fire, Mavis could see he was feeling some type of way.
"You ok? You look depressed." Mavis put her stick over the fire, "not enough bugs and frogs here? Abigail said you love those things."
"Yeah." Cypress looked down at his hands, one of them was in a cast still, but the other one had small scabs because of his scratching habits. He started to pick at them.
"Aye, don't do that." Mickey threw a marshmallow at Cypress, which spooked him. "My bad, but don't do that." Cypress nodded, and he threw the marshmallow into the fire and watched it burn.
"AH! SOMETHING TOUCHED MY FOOT!" Abigail screamed, then tried her best to run in the waist high water.
"GATOR!!" Jesse screamed, and Ethan threw the football at him.
"THERES NO GATORS HERE DUMBASS! Fucking Floridian..." Ethan laughed, then turned around when he felt some water splash him, it was Evelyn.
"Got you!" She giggled, she had her hair tied up into a messy bun so it wouldn't get wet. Ethan smiled, and lightly splashed her back.
"I haven't gone to a lake in a while, last time I went was with my family..." she sighed, "fishing trips." She shrugged.
"Yeah? Are you from here or...?"
"Oh no, I moved here a couple years ago, I'm originally from Utah... my parents were born there too..." she moved closer to Ethan to look at him better, "you know... super religious..." She shrugged and looked down.
"Is your family Mormon?" Ethan brushed some hair out of his face, the water on his hand slicking it back a little bit.
"No... but their... very uh... set in their ways you know?" She sighed, "completely just stuck in the past..."
"Oh like conservative?" Ethan watched as Abigail and Jesse poorly played catch with the football, but then looked back at Evelyn.
"Yeah, total like- gays are going to hell, sex before marriage is evil, blah blah blah..." Evelyn rolled her eyes, "cant wait till they here about my new friends..." she huffed.
"That sucks man, you know- my dad was a total douchebag like that too. Then my mom died and he kind of... loosened up a bit." He shrugged, "I guess it kind of knocked some sense into him."
"Oh I'm sorry about you mom..."
"Yeah, I miss her. She died of cancer when I was like... 15 or so. I don't really remember cause it just happened so fast." Ethan sighed, "I mean she wasn't the best mom but like.... You know she was my mom."
"Yeah, cancer is always something you underestimate until it happens in your family. My grandfather passed away last year from colon cancer. I don't miss him though... which sounds awful but... my mother went through a lot because of him." She looked sadly over at Ethan, who nodded, "I'm sorry, this is really like- depressing maybe we should... stop." She waved her hands.
"Sure I mean, yeah." Ethan smirked, "kind of depressing."
"Yeah..."
They stared at each other, and continued to stare.
"Ethan?"
"Yeah?"
"I think you're the first guy to ever stare at my eyes..." she smiled softly, "it sounds stupid but... that really means a lot..."
Ethan smiled back, "you've got nice eyes to look into... it my favorite part about you... physically..."
"What do you like about me that's not physical?" Evelyn giggled, and moved closer to Ethan, who looked down at her kindly.
"You're genuinely happy to see people... you like making people feel good about themselves. And you have a great, great laugh." Ethan could feel the heat building in his body as Evelyn looked up at him, her smile was so beautiful... and her eyes... Ethan could feel himself sinking into them.
"If I don't live genuinely... then what life am I living...?" She put her arms loosely around Ethan's neck and said quietly, "I love you Ethan... genuinely..."
"I love you too..." Ethan quietly returned, and they both leaned in and kissed. The first one was soft but the second one was deeper, but not to the point where it was full on tongue.
"AWWW THATS SO CUTE!!!" Abigail squealed, and firmly pushed Jesse to look at the two blondes. "LOOK! LOOK I KNEW IT!!" She jumped up and down on the shore.
"We all knew it Abby..." Jesse rubbed his shoulder, which Abigail punched.
Mickey looked at the two of them in the water and clapped.
"Why the fuck are you clapping? It's not a movie!" Mavis smirked, "it is very cute though..." she leaned into Mickey, who kissed her temple.
"Yup, nothin cuter than seeing the super twink getting his face sucked."
Mavis cackled at that, "SUPER TWINK! HOLY SHIT SUPER TWINK AHAHAHAHA!!!!"
Mickey smiled seeing his girlfriend in stitches over his joke, but suddenly felt the joy go away when he looked at Cypress, who was staring at Ethan and Evelyn.
He was feeling something that wasn't exactly bittersweet, it was something darker. It was happiness for Ethan, with an inkling of a dark desire for something to happen so he could replace Evelyn... Anything to happen.
"Cypress? You've been kind of... staring at them... for a while..." Mickey raised an eyebrow and Cypress looked over at him.
"You good?" He asked him, and Cypress smiled softly and nodded. Which was a shock. "Oh... good."
Mavis looked at Cypress weirdly, something was fake about this, and she knew Mickey felt it too.
"So we're going to just-"
She was interrupted by Abigail running over to them screaming because something jumped in the water.
"ITS A FISH ABIGAIL!!" Ethan yelled after her, now holding Evelyn's hand and walking out of the lake.
"You want me to start setting up?!" Mickey yelled over at Ethan, who gave him a thumbs up. With the signal Mickey started unpacking his bag and setting up a bong.
"You ever smoked before Cypress?" Mavis crossed her legs and looked over at Cypress, who was now staring at the fire.
"Mhm."
Mavis nodded and looked back over and Mickey who was grinding weed. Mickey looked over and smiled, and Mavis laughed.
"What?" Mickey asked.
"You're just cute Mickey." Mavis sighed, then leaned over and kissed his cheek.
After a couple minutes the bong was ready, and Mickey took the first hit.
"Dude- dude your lungs... your- Mickey- MICKEY." Mavis laughed as Ethan watched in worry while Mickey continued to take in smoke. When he breathed it out it was almost completely white.
"Holy fuck..." mickey laughed, then started to cough.
"There was no reason! No reason!" Mavis shook her head, then rubbed Mickeys back, "you're not driving baby!"
"Who wants it next..?" Mickey held up the bong, and cypress took it, without even waiting he lit it and used it. It wasn't as impressive as Mickeys, but really, Cypress wasn't concerned.
Weed didn't really help with Cypress's gloominess, it didn't make him hyper, it just muted his environment and it made him feel more comfortable. He was more talkative when he was high because he didn't feel like too many people were talking.
Ethan put his arm around Evelyn's waist and she leaned into him as they stood over the others sitting down, which Abigail joined with Jesse. Evelyn grabbed Ethan's other hand and smiled watching Jesse cough after hitting.
"Do you want to smoke?" Ethan asked and looked at Evelyn, who shook her head smiling. "I think I might if that's okay with you?"
"I'm okay with that! You don't have to ask..." she laughed lightly and kissed Ethan's cheek, her heart jumped a little bit afterwards when Ethan returned the kiss on her cheek.
"Awww... so lovey dovey..." Abigail teased, and Ethan laughed a little while Evelyn blushed. "Anyways here you go Romeo." Abigail passed the bong and lighter to Ethan, who took it.
"Here sit down Ethan, right here." Mickey grinned and opened his arms, "sit on my lap."
"What? No!" Ethan gave him a confused look.
"No you really should..." Mavis smiled and patted Mickeys thigh, "he gives great shoulder massages!"
"I'm not sitting on your lap Mickey..." Ethan laughed lightly, "but I will take that shoulder massage..." he walked over to Mickey and sat down in front of the chair he was sitting in.
"Alrighty Ethan... my main... man..." Mickey trailed off, then coughed, before massaging Ethans shoulders. Ethan laughed, then finally took his turn on the bong.
"I'm feeling sexual..." Mavis sighed, "lakes do that to me..."
"What? Lakes make you sexual...?" Abigail leaned closer to Mavis to make sure she could hear her well.
"Yeah..." Mavis sighed and ran her hand through her long curly hair.
"Why?!" Ethan looked up at Mavis who was sitting next to him.
"Oh... I'm not sure if Mickey wants-"
"This is where we first fucked." Mickey sniffed and continued to massage Ethan's shoulders.
"So much romance here goodness." Abigail laughed. Evelyn quietly sat down between Ethan and Abigail on the ground.
"Let's give him a chance to say something." Mavis pointed to Cypress, who was staring at his shoes.
"Cy." Ethan called, but he didn't respond, so Mickey took this chance to throw another marshmallow at him.
"Huh?" Cypress looked up and over at Ethan, "what?"
"You haven't been talking, tell us about something you find cool." Mavis smiled, and Cypress blinked a couple times before answering.
"Um... roaches can live a we- week without a head... and I... um-" he looked around, "I saw a dead- dead deer in this lake a- a couple years ago..."
"Very cool!" Mickey smiled and gave him a thumbs up, "I once went to a party here and some guy took a shit ton of heroin and drowned in this lake."
"What the fuck bro..." Ethan sighed and Evelyn looked at the ground sadly.
Mavis patted Mickeys shoulder, "not the time hon." And smiled at him to assure him he wasn't in trouble.
"What's another cool fact Cy?" Ethan smiled softly at him to try and move on from Mickeys comment.
"Um- well..." Cypress tapped his feet and tried to think of something else to say, but he couldn't. "I- I don't know."
Ethan nodded, "that's fair."
"Tell me a fact about you Cypress, since I don't know you that well!" Mavis smiled and gestured at Cypress. Ethan was starting to get a little worried for Cypress, this was a lot of questions at once for him.
"Well- um- I have brain damage... so that's- that's why I'm... weird. Sorry- I- I feel like I need to say that so people under- understand..." Cypress scratched the fabric of the fold chair and looked over at Ethan.
"Well I'm glad I know that about you now, why do you keep looking at Ethan? Is he like... doing something funny?" Mavis looked over at Ethan.
"Sorry-" Cypress looked down.
"No don't be you're cool Cy!" Ethan smiled, "I think I'm gonna head out soon with Evelyn if that's okay with you guys! We're both tired from the game so-"
"You wanna have sex." Mickey groaned, he was now slumped in chair and partially leaning into Mavis, who played with his hair.
"Mickey!" Abigail laughed, "c'mon man!"
"Yeah even when it's obvious you don't just announce that you're gonna have sex! Ethan was trying to have some class!" Jesse added.
"Yeah... alright- see you guys!" Ethan smiled and got up before giving his hand to Evelyn and helping her up. Then they walked off after waving goodbye and grabbing their things.
