Chapter 29
The car ride back to the headquarters was silent. The rogue had woken up but he couldn't do anything. Alexa somehow found some rope and had tied the rogue's hands and legs. No one spoke because of the fear of revealing some important information. The rogue meanwhile took his time inspecting all of them.
Just as they were about to enter the headquarters, Xander asked Jeremy to stop the car. The car skid to a halt and Xander got out of the car. Apparently, he had some work to be completed. The car drove on without Xander, and in a minute or two, they reached the Amalthea Pack Headquarters.
The moment they reached, the Alpha came running to them. He had a concern written all over his face. He tensed up as he looked at the people inside. At first, Maddy didn't realize why he was acting that way but then she realized that Xander wasn't in the car.
"Xander wanted to buy something which is why he isn't here. He is perfectly fine," Maddy said to the Alpha who immediately slumped with relief.
The Alpha then saw the rogue who was discreetly trying to free his hands. The moment Leia saw that, she didn't hesitate to go right up to the rogue and glare at him. "Don't move unless you fancy being bound with silver chains." Being intelligent enough, the rogue stopped moving.
Maddy talked to the Alpha and told him about her theory of how the rogue might know who the boss was. The Alpha listened to her patiently and then asked some members to take the rogue put him in a cell in the same building where the previous Beta was being kept.
"I'll try seeing if the rogue will be able to give us some answers. I am not sure how I'll make him talk since he is not in my pack. I have no control over him," the Alpha said.
Maddy frowned. She hadn't thought of that. The Alpha was right. There was no way to make him talk and he wouldn't just freely give away information.
The Alpha left to interrogate the rogue. Maddy just stood there thinking for some time. Maddy had no doubt that the rogue wouldn't say a word. Maddy's trail of thought was interrupted when someone calling her name.
Maddy turned around and saw that Xander was standing with his hands behind his back. Once again, he had his apologetic expression on.
Maddy wasn't pissed anymore because, well, she wouldn't have caught the rogue unless Xander put her on guarding duty and Xander had also asked her to investigate the trap door. However, she didn't tell Xander that. She wanted to see how exactly Xander would apologize to her.
Xander cleared his throat. "I'm sorry. I just wanted to make sure that you were safe. The boss kept on trying to kidnap or kill you and I wanted to make sure that you were safe," Xander said as he practically thrust a bouquet of flowers towards Maddy.
Maddy stared at the bouquet for a second. She hadn't noticed that Xander had a bouquet on him. Probably because he stood with his hands behind his back.
"You brought me flowers?" Maddy asked as she stared at the purplish-blue flowers. Maddy couldn't recognize the flowers but they looked extremely pretty.
"Blue hyacinths," Xander replied when Maddy asked him what flowers they were. "Their universal meaning is 'I messed up.'"
Maddy felt bad. Extremely bad. Xander had been right. The boss was after Maddy only for some reason. Xander had even gotten her flowers! Now, Maddy felt double bad.
Maddy frowned and mockingly glared at Xander. "This is not fair," she grumbled. "I haven't even been angry for a whole hour yet. You are not allowed to do or say sweet things like this until at least one hour has passed."
Xander's smile could have lit up the entire headquarters for a month at least. "So, you are not pissed at me?"
Maddy nodded and Xander relaxed.
"And the lovebirds are back together," Alexa whooped as she and Leia walked over to Maddy and Xander with twin evil smiles on their faces. Jeremy walked behind them as he shook his head at Alexa and Leia's behavior, but the small smile on his face betrayed his true emotions.
Maddy groaned as her face turned red. She hadn't even realized that the three of them were listening in on the conversation. She should have known otherwise.
"What are you three doing here?" Xander asked, ignoring the previous comment.
"Well, dad wasn't able to pry out any information so he asked us to call Maddy over. She was able to do magic on the Beta and we were hoping for something similar on the rogue. We came here and we saw that Xander was handing Maddy flowers so of course, we had to eavesdrop," Leia said with a huge smile when she mentioned the flowers' part.
"Yeah, Xander's definitely a simp," Alexa snickered while Xander glowered at her.
"I am definitely not a simp, whatever that means."
Alexa and Xander continued to bicker about whether he was a simp or not as they walked towards the building holding the previous Beta and the rogue.
Once again, Xander had to scan his hand for the door to open. Maddy watched with awe as the blue laser-ish kind of thing appeared. She would never cease to get amazed at that. When they entered it was completely dark, as expected. Like the last time Maddy was there, the voice recognition software asked for Xander's name and when Xander told his own name, the angry buzzer started sounding. Xander then had to resignedly say that Alexa was the best after which the light flooded back in.
Alexa had a huge grin on her face as they entered the elevator while Xander glared at the back of her head. When they reached the floor where the rogue was being kept, the playful mood disappeared and a serious mood settled in.
Justin was talking to the current Beta when Maddy and the others reached. He stopped talking to him when he saw their group.
"There is nothing that we can do to make him talk. A few punches didn't bother him. The only option we have is to torture him and, well, none of us are keen on doing it," Justin said as he winced at the word torture.
Maddy's eyes widened. "No torture. Definitely."
"Anyone has any ideas?" The Beta asked as he glared at the rogue.
Maddy frowned and thought hard. The only way to make the rogue talk was fear. Fear would make anyone talk. The rogue wasn't afraid to take a few punches. In fact, he seemed to enjoy the thrill of it when Maddy fought him. The only time he had seemed afraid was when he touched the silver dagger. However, they couldn't use the silver on him because that would definitely count as torture. Too much of silver for a werewolf was equivalent to blowtorching them.
After a minute of thinking, Maddy remembered something. After letting go of the dagger, he had looked at Maddy with fear in his eyes and asked her what she was. He had been afraid of her because she smelled like a werewolf but could touch silver like a human. Slowly, an idea started forming in Maddy's mind.
Maddy turned to Leia. "I have an idea but I'll need your help."
Leia nodded. "Keep speaking."
"We do the interrogation Peggy Carter style," Maddy said, hoping that Leia would get the reference.
Maddy took Leia aside and told her the plan. Leia was grinning wildly by the time Maddy finished. Maddy then took Justin aside and asked him for a list of materials that they would need. If everything went according to plan, the rogue would be an open book in an hour or two.
