Toxicity

You always lived along the coast for as long as you could recall. Sure it was loud, and it smelled. But the water was warm enough that you couldn't ever really mind. Besides, who didn't love the thrill of being unable to look a foot below yourself due to the oil, right?

Now, let's say you head up to the beach, watching those from another realm frolic, yet there's always that lurking observation that they're constantly floundering in their own filth.

Here's the funny thing though. Did you assume you were the human in this scenario? Reread the above excerpt in the eyes of a marine animal before continuing.

Aren't those humans lucky? They bombard our realm with their discarded waste, and take whatever we find valuable to ourselves. To survive, we must rummage through their rubbish, and use it in whatever way we can manage. Be it creating a shelter from it, eating it, the list goes on.

But it's always a gamble. Will we die from this chemical infused plastic? Or will we starve, and hope that something better comes along tomorrow? And those are only the hazards we endure by choice-it's a lose lose situation caused by the humans, but nonetheless a choice.

Shut your eyes and picture it. You're just swimming along now, and something luminescent catches your eye. Instincts lead you to believe this is the way to food. But by the time you notice it's plastic, it's too late. The can holder is trapping your throat, holding you in place, a perfect victim to whatever predator swims past first. It tightens as you struggle, until you can't see anymore, can't breathe, slowly losing feeling to every single part of you.

Even your predators stay away, because they know you'll hardly make a decent meal. The binding is just tight enough that you can't escape, and eventually you'll succumb due to hunger. Imagine that, that gnawing feeling in your gut when you forget to grab breakfast. Now, multiply that feeling by ten. And add in the anguish, if you have young and they're depending on your for life. How would you feel?

Now, what makes you any less deserving of torment than them?
