[13] More Than a Feeling

"She lays her halo on her pillow, that used to be mine."

Five Months Later

Colby was backstage at NXT Takeover: Dallas. He was still injured (though he did feel much better, physically), but the entire WWE roster was in Dallas for WrestleMania weekend, so he decided to stop by and see his friends down in NXT.

The first two matches of the night – the tag team title match, and Baron Corbin vs. Austin Aries – had already finished, and they were now preparing for the much anticipated Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.

They were currently showing an ad for the WWE shop, so Colby had pulled out his phone and taken to Twitter, to find out what everyone thought of the show so far.

When the ad ended, his head shot up because a familiar voice had begun singing.

"You're like a bombshell, baby."

"We'd like to give a huge thanks to Toxic Valentine," Corey Graves said over the music. "For their song Bombshell, one of official theme songs for NXT Takeover: Dallas."

They were showing what Colby assumed was the music video. The girls were in a city that, he assumed, had been hit by a bomb due to all the destruction around them. The song was new to him; he figured that they had released it after their tour. For all he knew, it could've been the song Carrie was writing when he found her on the roof that night.

Carrie.

He knew it had been a little over five months since the last time he'd seen her, but she looked different. Her blonde hair had been cut, stopping just below her chin, and it now had a blue streak in it. Her hands were grabbing the microphone as she sang, and it looked like she now had a tattoo on one of her wrists. Colby couldn't make out what it said.

He could just imagine how excited she must've been when she learned that one of Toxic Valentine's song would be a theme for Takeover: Dallas. Sam probably got an earful.

They hadn't spoken since their fight at Disney World, but Colby assumed that Carrie had gotten back together with Sam. It was the only thing that really made sense to him.

He had managed not to talk to her for five months. He thought it would be hard, and for the most part, it was. He'd distracted himself by working on his physical therapy and rehab, which had put him ahead of schedule, healing-wise. Tomorrow, he'd be testing his knee out to see if he was good for a return at WrestleMania, which had been his goal from the start.

Bombshell had stopped playing long ago, and the Nakamura-Zayn match was already underway, having been happening for about five minutes. Colby hadn't been paying close enough attention to know what had happened, but based on the silence backstage, it had to be good.

Anytime either Zayn or Nakamura kicked out, there was a collective "Oh!" from everyone backstage.

In the end, the debuting Shinsuke Nakamura won, and both men were greeted with a round of applause from everyone backstage.

They began showing a video package hyping up the next match – Bayley vs. Asuka. As he watched it, someone appeared next to Colby. He looked over and saw Saraya, who he didn't realize was there.

"Did you hear it?" She asked, still looking at the screen.

"Yeah." He didn't have to ask what she was talking about.

"It's a good song," She said.

He wasn't sure what to say, so he simply repeated, "Yeah."

"Have you talked to her?" Saraya looked away this time, her eyes landing on Colby.

"No." He shook his head. "I wouldn't know what to say if I did."

"Just tell her you like the song," She told him.

"I haven't even heard all of it, yet," Colby protested.

She rolled her eyes. "Listen to it, then. And once you've done that, text her telling her that it's a good song. They write their own music, right?"

"Carrie writes everything," He replied. "Lindsay has input on some things, but it's mostly Carrie."

"The song's called Bombshell," She said. "Look it up."

She began walking away, but stopped when Colby spoke up. "What are you even doing here?"

"The women's match is up next," She said. "I've got to see if Bayley's living up to my reign as NXT Women's Champ." She smirked.

"Don't worry," Colby assured her. "She is."

Saraya walked away, and Colby watched the women's match.

Takeover had ended, and Colby was still backstage, though it had cleared out a lot, as most people had already left.  A few people lingered behind, but Colby was by himself.

Once the show had ended, he pulled out his phone, found the song, and listened to it. After hearing lines like, "You're like a bombshell, baby; you leave destruction in your wake," and "You hurt people everywhere you go," he knew what to say.

It's about me, isn't it?

A few minutes later, he got a reply.

Carrie saw your text, freaked out, and threw her phone across the room. But I (Lindsay) figured you deserved a reply, assuming we're talking about "Bombshell" (since it's a PPV theme song now, and you probably heard it), so I picked up her phone.

The answer is yes. The song is about you.

Carrie doesn't want you texting her anymore.

Colby sighed, running a hand through his hair.

He deserved to be ignored by Carrie, but it still hurt.

It hurt that she wrote a song about him and didn't even tell him about it. It hurt that she was ignoring him, and up until now, he had to ignore her even though he didn't want to. It hurt that she had lied to him in the first place, and that she was probably dating Sam again, even though he'd broken up with her.

He had been pushing these thoughts to the back of his mind for the past five months, and now that he had finally brought one of them to the forefront, they were all flooding all at once. He didn't like it.

He knew he needed to apologize, but she needed to apologize, too, and until that happened, they'd probably keep living like this: ignoring each other and freaking out if one of them texted the other out of the blue.

Colby would just have to deal with it.

Giving Toxic Valentine a PPV theme song had been on my mind for a while, so I went ahead and gave them a Takeover theme.  I didn't technically write Bombshell, I just wrote two lines from it. xD

Shoutout to the only Boston song I know because it was on Guitar Hero.

Nakamura-Zayn was an amazing match js

Anyway, let me know what you thought! :)
