Chapter 7
"Stiles, where are you? Please call me back." Layla spoke, leaving yet another voicemail for her twin.
Malia had alerted Layla that she had left Stiles at the school library and that he should've been home by now. But he wasn't.
Layla threw her phone on her bed and groaned in frustration. She heard a door open downstairs and even without her werewolf senses it was obvious that it was Stiles.
Opening her bedroom door she sighed in relief as she caught sight of him walking down the hallway, but something was off. Was that a faint stench of blood she could smell?
"Stiles." She called after him, but he just slammed his bedroom door shut.
Layla walked to his bedroom and opened the door. She found her brother standing beside his board where he wrote about anything he found suspicious. So obviously Theo's name was there, but that wasn't the problem right now.
"Stiles you had me worried sick! Why didn't you call?"
Stiles ignored her and scrawled the name 'Donovan' on the board, his breathing raspy and irregular.
"Stiles?" She questioned softly, taking a step towards him.
But his eyes remained focused on the board. 'Not dead.' He wrote beside it.
"Stiles, talk to me." Layla said, now standing beside her brother. 'Walked out.' He wrote beneath the other words.
"Stiles, look at me." She said forcefully, placing her hands on her brothers shoulders. "What happened?"
"Donovan." Stiles breathed. "He - he..." Stiles was gasping, like someone was restricting his airways.
"Hey, hey take your time. It's okay." Layla comforted.
Stiles shook his head and pushed Layla aside. "It's not." He mumbled as he walked to the board.
'Donovan dead' He wrote and unlined it several times as if to prove a point. He stepped back and placed his hand on his forehead.
Taking a deep breath he walked back towards the board.
"Stiles." Layla shouted. "Stop." She was seriously worried and the fact that her brother wouldn't talk to her was not helping the situation.
Stiles ignored his sister and proceeded to write on the board. 'Someone took the body' He wrote.
"Stiles that's it. Sit, now." Layla ordered, only to be ignored once again.
Stiles grabbed the eraser and began frantically rubbing off everything he had written. Tears begins to fill his eyes and Layla walked towards him. He threw the eraser at the board just as Layla turned him towards her. Stiles looked at his sister and burst into tears. Layla wrapped her arms around him as he sobbed on her shoulder.
"You're alright." She soothed. "It's okay now."
Layla knew that she would find out what had happened between Stiles and Donovan, whether it resulted in him actually being dead or not. But right now that wasn't Layla's biggest issue. Her biggest issue was making sure her twin was okay.

Layla stood with Scott and Theo inside the boys locker room. It no longer fazed her, but she never got used to the stench of sweat and week old gym socks.
"I'm sorry, but I hadn't even heard of the kanima until a few weeks ago." Theo said as he flicked through the pages of the copy of the Dread Doctors.
"Do you want me to read this?"
"Well not yet, I'm still only on chapter one." Scott replied.
Layla looked around the locker room anxiously. Recently she constantly felt on edge but she wasn't sure why. She felt as if someone was watching her, as if she was the prey that was being stalked. The dreams weren't helping either. She hadn't told anyone, but Layla had been having this reoccurring dream every night for the past week.
She had managed to hide it pretty well and there were plenty of distractions. But it was getting to her more and more and she didn't know how much longer she could take it.
It started with her lying on a operating table in pitch black. Her hands and feet were shackled to the table and she could heard the faint buzz of electricity. That was when the voices began.
It's time to start your treatment. You will be our success. You will not fail.
And then Layla would feel the most excruciating pain and it spread throughout her entire body. It was like she was being stabbed with a thousand knives all at once. And just before she would wake up she would hear the voice speak again.
We're one step closer.
"Layla." A voice said snapping her out of her daze.
"What?" She said looking at Scott and Theo.
"Are you okay?" Theo asked.
"Fine." She said forcing a smile. She glanced down at Theo's copy of the book, the last page opened so Layla could see what was written.
"Scott." She breathed, snatching the copy out of Theo's hands. She showed it to Scott.
"Dr Gabriel Valack." He read.
"Do you know him?" Theo asked.
"We do." Layla replied. " And we also know where to find him."
--
"There's something not right with Layla either." Stiles said to Scott after he had been told about Kira. He made sure to speak quietly, so Layla wouldn't hear him.
"What do you mean?"
"In the middle of the night I hear her screaming. Scott, she's screaming for help." He said, looking heartbroken. "And I can't help her. I can't do anything." He continued, his voice breaking.
"Stiles she's just having a nightmare." Scott assured his best friend.
"But is she? We thought Tracy was only having night terrors and look what was really happening."
"Stiles if you're trying to say that the same thing is happening to Layla -"
"I'm not." Stiles said cutting him off. "I'm just saying that there's something wrong. She jumps every time she hears something and considering she's a werewolf, she jumps a lot. Scott, she flinched when dad tried to hug her this morning. She flinched."
"Stiles -" Scott began but was cut off once again. This time by Layla.
"Come on you two." She hollered, shooting them a small smile.
But now that Scott knew what was going on he could see how her smile was forced and how her eyes seemed to be sending out a message.
Help me.
