Chapter 28

"Where's Layla?" Parrish demanded, looking around frantically.

"Easy there son." Chris spoke, pushing him down to a sitting position.

Parrish stared at the man infront of him and waited for him to tell her where the young woman was.

"Layla is fine. I saw her earlier." Lydia answered for Chris.

"Is she hurt? The beast, it attacked her too. She was there one minute and gone the next. I tried to find her but I couldn't." Panic filled the deputy's eyes.

"No, she's fine." Lydia promised.

"Can you tell me why you were with Layla?" Chris asked.

"She was just there when I arrived. I didn't burn her and I felt this type of connection with her. It was almost like she tamed the hellhound part of me. I felt more in control with her by my side." He confessed.

"Did you know that you somehow shared your power with Layla?" Chris questioned and Parrish shook his head.

"No, I didn't."

Gerald tilted his head as he watched the young deputy. "The two of you have a connection." He mused.

"I don't think it's them." Chris argued. "I think it's the Goddess and the Hellhound that have the connection, and we need to find out why."

Layla stood watching as Stiles attempted to check the sole of a girls shoe. Sydney was her name, at least that's what Layla thought. He tried multiple times but it only resulted in him getting kicked in the face, literally.

She snorted as he stumbled back, clutching his head. "You're not going to get anywhere if you try to do that in every persons shoes." She commented and Stiles turned to look at his sister.

"Have you got a better idea?" He snapped.

"Kill them all." She shrugged. "Better safe than sorry."

Stiles' jaw fell slack as he listened to his sister. "What happened to you?" He whispered.

Instead of answering, Layla yelled out in pain and fell to the crowd. Stiles rushed forward and grabbed his sister, allowing her to fall limply in his arms.

"Layla what's wrong?" He demanded, forgetting his anger.

"Jordan." She screamed, her shouting drowned out by the cheering.

"What's wrong?" Stiles shouted, wanting to help but unable to know how.

"Jordan." She breathed. "He's alive. He's okay." Recovering from the fall.

Stiles' eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but he didn't have time to question her as a loud piercing sound filled their ears. Layla clasped her hands over her ears until the noise passed and it was instead filled with growling. Layla began to run and Stiles called out to her.

"Layla no."

"This is what we must do." She growled. "We must kill the beast."
