Chapter 27
Layla stood outside Beacon Hills high school, her eyes burning Violet. She had been summoned here by a feeling. A subconscious knowledge of the beasts location. That was her mission, find the beast and destroy it by any means. It was what her and the Goddess had to do.
Layla's head snapped up as she heard the hellhound nearing her. Jordan Parrish wore nothing but trousers, his torso burning bright with flames, his eyes a ruby red and his canines extended. He approached Layla but stopped a metre away from her.
"Go." He spoke gruffly.
He had been summoned there by his own feeling, the knowledge of death. They were there for two different reasons, but they coincided and overlapped.
"No." Layla replied bluntly, her violet eyes locking with Jordan's ruby red ones.
"I could hurt you."
Layla stepped towards him, standing so close that she could feel the heat radiating off him, the flames almost licking at her top. Layla reached up and placed her right hand on Jordan's chest, the flames enveloping her porcelain hand, but not burning it. Jordan looked at her hand in wonder and placed his hand on top of hers.
"You can't hurt me Jordan." Layla whispered. "But I can help you." She stepped back and let her hand fall to her side. Jordan stared at her, his breathing heavy as he debated what to do. As the hellhound within him debated what to do. There was something about her, something that made him wonder, made him want to know more as well as making the hellhound side of him want to know more.
And so he held his hand out to her, the red and orange flames encircling his arm the whole way down to his fingertips. Layla placed her hand in his and together they walked towards the awaiting scene.
It seemed that they were not the only ones. As they arrived and saw the school bus filled with dead teenagers, one of whom was still alive, Liam, Stiles and Scott along with Chris had done the exact same thing.
"Help me." The teenager begged.
"You can't help him." Jordan and Layla said in sync as they walked out to face the group.
Everyone was shocked to see Layla with Jordan and even more shocked to see that their hands were intertwined and Layla's hand was not burning. Layla's hair was now white as snow and her eyes were a bright violet. Stiles felt guilty when he saw his sister. Guilty that he hadn't saved her.
But he pushed the guilt to one side as the beast advanced to the back of the bus, roaring in fury as its blue eyes sizzled.
"Nobody told me it was that big." He commented.
"I did." Liam said in response, neither of them taking their eyes off the beast.
Jordan and Layla roared at the same time and the strangest thing happened.
Everyone's eyes were glued to the white haired girl as the watched the flames on Jordan's body begin to slither up her arms and legs until like him she was covered in them. It was almost as though Jordan had given her access to his power, as if they were linked somehow.
"Kill it." The Goddess spoke in Layla's head.
Layla launched herself at the bus that contained the beast, Jordan running alongside her. Together they chased the beast, leaving Scott, Stiles, Liam and Chris to stare in shock.
"What's happening?" Scott asked.
"It's getting smarter." Chris said bluntly.
"And what about my sister?" Stiles asked. "Why was she with Parrish?"
"You're going to have to ask him that yourself." Chris sighed, wondering what had happened to the girl that was once his daughter's best friend.

"The dread doctors want the beast to be as fast as possible as soon as possible." Layla heard Scott say as she approached the table filled with the friends whom she had once loved dearly.
"Because of Parrish." Liam replied.
"And because of me." Layla added and all heads snapped in her direction.
"Layla." Lydia breathed, her eyes wide.
Layla smiled softly, but her eyes held no emotion. "Hello Lydia."
"Layla are you okay?" Stiles asked and stood up, but Layla held her hand up, stopping him in his tracks.
"No one is to question me. No one is to question what has happened to me or why. I have a mission, a duty that I must complete. If any of you get in my way I cannot be held responsible for my actions. But I all knew you once and I assume that you are going to attempt to stop what will happen. I will agree to help you, but if any of you put Jordan in danger, I will kill you."
Everyone was silent as Layla spoke, knowing that it was the Goddess within that caused her to speak so formal, to hold no emotional attachment. No one dared question her, Deaton had told them all that he knew about the Chimera Goddess and if Layla was currently harbouring that power the slightest sign of a threat and she could burn the whole world.
They would free Layla from the bound between her and the Goddess. They didn't know why she had let it in, or what had happened to her in Eichen House. They didn't know why Valack was obsessed with her or what exactly the doctors had done to her. But they would save her.
"Why Parrish?" Liam spoke, unable to help himself and Stiles kicked him under the table.
"That's none of your business. All you need to do is take heed in my words pup, and do not disregard them." Layla said bluntly, her eyes beginning to turn violet, a sign of her agitation.
She slid into the free chair beside Scott and folded her arms. She stared at Stiles, knowing he had something lined up.
"We have one clue to go off." Stiles said, avoiding his sister's gaze as he mumbled through his bag, tension filling the room. "Those came from the hospital." He said as he brought out a photo and placed it on the table.
The group peered at the photo that showed a bloody footprint. Layla tilted her head and pushed a white lock of hair out of her face. "It's a partial print." She mused, and Stiles nodded, resisting the urge to look at his twin.
"It's all we could get. It's a size ten though from what we can see." He replied.
"How many size tens are there out there?" Scott asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Only one with Parrish's blood on the sole." Stiles sighed.
"So are we gonna try and get the game cancelled?" Liam asked, fidgeting in his chair.
"No." Stiles said slowly. "We're going to play, and just hope that it doesn't turn into a blood soaked massacre."
"How idiotic." Layla huffed, rolling her eyes.
"But aren't we missing out on a chance to catch this thing? We don't have the who, but we have the where and the when." Liam pointed out and Layla arched her eyebrow in mild interest.
"There's too many people." Scott commented.
"There will always be too many people Scott. Would you rather let the beast continue its rampage and kill for the pure pleasure of it, or would you rather we attempt to catch it with the possibility of a few casualties?" Layla spoke nonchalantly, but her eyes were ablaze,
"A few casualties?" Scott echoed. "The lacrosse pitch will be filled with people."
"You think too highly of the team. It's gone a bit shit since Jackson left." Layla shrugged.
"Do you think this is a joke?" Scott growled and everyone froze as Layla rose from her chair and turned to face the true alpha.
"No Scott, I think you're a joke. This is reality, people get injuries and people die. I don't give a damn what you and your little posse do. I came here intending to help, but your too pathetic to even form an adequate plan because your too worried about people. They're going to die either way Scott. When the beast wishes to kill, it does just that. So you continue, pretend you're actually going to do something useful, that you're going to be the hero and save the day. We all know it'll never happen."
Layla spoke so calmly that the group knew she was a ticking time bomb. Scott had crossed a line, he knew not to annoy her and yet he had done just that. He had ruined their only chance of having her onside. And as she turned to walk away, Scott opened his mouth and more words spilled out.
"Well what about you Layla?" He growled. "You're no hero either."
Layla stopped and looked over her shoulder, her eyes violet but the library was empty so no one would see except them. She smiled at him. The smile was dangerous, a threat in itself.
"I never claimed to be the hero, nor the villian. I am what I am, and I will kill the beast no matter the cost."
