Chapter 18

Layla grinned as she stared at herself in the mirror. She had left Theo and his groupies alone for now, but she would come back to them. They belonged to her. Layla felt different, almost as if the moment Hayden died something snapped within her. She felt this constant surge of power, and it was euphoric. She had decided that it was time for a change and so when she came home in the dead of night she grabbed this scissors, giving herself a pixie cut. She couldn't see it herself, but Layla wasn't in control, not really. Something seemed to be manifesting itself inside Layla, rotting the good within her. But she didn't see that. No, all Layla felt was the power, and it was incredible.

Her phone rang, and Layla picked it up and clicked answer. She held the phone to her ear and spoke with an almost mocking tone. "Hello dearest brother."

"Layla you have to come down to the hospital now, it's dad he - he ." He spluttered.

"He what Stiles?" She sighed, rolling her eyes even though her twin couldn't see her.

"He's in the hospital Layla." He cried. "I need you here."

Now, Layla should've been feeling exactly what her brother felt; worry, sadness etcetera. Yet, she felt nothing, void is a better word perhaps. After telling her brother that she was on her way she hung up, grabbed her coat and set of for the hospital to cry for someone she strangely felt nothing for.

---

"Sup?" Layla greeted as she slid into a chair next to Stiles. She observed her brother with mild interest. His hair was disheveled and his face was streaked with tears. He stopped bouncing his knee as he turned to his sister, wide eyed.

"Sup?" He repeated, his voice loud. "Layla where the hell have you been? Our dad is in hospital. Does that mean nothing to you?"

"Woah, hey clam down there sunshine." Layla scoffed, holding her hands up in defence. "I told you I was on my way and here I am."

"Why are you acting like this? Do you feel anything?" He questioned his sister, this time his tone one of worry.

Layla looked away from her brother, her eyes now unfocused. She remained silent for a few moments as she almost willed herself to feel something, anything. Finally she answered, in the softest voice, her words almost lost in the bustle of the hospital.

"No. I feel nothing."

Before Stiles could reply Melissa came over and knelt beside them. "Hey, your dad's going to be fine." She told them, her voice soft and motherly, as always. "They're stitching him up right now." She added.

"Okay, I - I want to see him." Stiles said breathlessly while Layla still stared into nothing, her eyes unfocused and her body unmoving.

"The anaesthesia still needs to wear off. It'll be about two hours." Melissa replied, placing her hand on Stiles' arm as he jolted upwards ready to check on his father.

"Okay," He replied shakily. "But you're sure he'll be okay?"

"She already said yes Stiles." Layla replied bluntly, causing both her brother and Melissa to look at her.

"Layla, are you okay?" Melissa asked warily. She approached the blue haired girl who refused to meet her gaze. A small smile came upon the teens face, her eyes still staring at nothing in particular.

"Oh I'm fine Melissa, just fine."

"Aren't you worried about your father?" She questioned. Melissa was just trying to get a reaction out of her, any reaction.

"You said he's going to be fine." Layla laughed. Her laughter echoed through the waiting room, sending shivers down Stiles' spine. This was not his sister.

"Layla -" Melissa began, reaching out to the girl. Suddenly Layla's head snapped towards Melissa, her eyes glowing Violet.

"Don't touch me." She growled and Melissa recoiled causing Layla to smile smugly.

A doctor walked past and Stiles stood up, clearly not completely believing Melissa's words. "Hey." He called, following the doctor to his father's room. Layla followed suit, ignoring Melissa as she walked beside her. Stiles looked in on his father, heartbreak visible on his face.

"He doesn't look fine to me." Layla snorted, grinning.

Stiles knew that there was something wrong with his sister, but he couldn't help her now. Hell, he couldn't even help his father. He wanted to, but he couldn't. His family was falling apart right in front of him and there was nothing that he could do to stop it.

"What happened to him?" He demanded.

"It looks like someone took a baseball bat to his neck." Layla noted nonchalantly.

"We don't know what's happening to you father." Melissa admitted, sighing.

Layla's head tilted to the side as she walked to the double doors, leaving her twin behind. "Fe fi fo fum. I smell an Alpha. Oh and there's blood, there's always blood." She sang. Moments later her brother shoved past her, unintentionally hitting her as he stormed through the double doors towards Scott. "Rude." Layla snorted. "Oh, but I do love a good fight."

She followed her brother, giggling as he threw Scott to the ground. Her laughter grew as Stiles began shouting at Scott. Chaos, it was chaos. And Layla loved it. Layla pouted as the doctors came forth and pulled Stiles away from Scott.

"Aw, it was just getting good." Layla whined, folding her arms.

"Your dad's not the only one who got hurt." Scott announced, shooting Layla a wary look.

"Oh you'll heal." Stiles snorted, eyeing the blood on Scott's t-shirt.

"No he won't." Layla giggled under her breath, her words lost amongst the mess.

"I wasn't talking about me." Scott replied.

"Well, isn't that a first. So go on tell me, who is it." Layla retorted.

"Lydia. It's Lydia."

----

"You know I think I'm going to sit this one out." Layla shrugged as they reached Lydia's hospital room.

"She's your best friend." Stiles exclaimed. Momentarily, Layla looked confused. Her eyes glazed over as she tilted her head to the side, almost as if she was coming out of a trance. A burst of hope passed through Stiles, some of this was getting through to Layla. Maybe if he just tried harder.

"She is?"

"Yes! Layla I need you to come back to me okay? I need my sister, dad needs his daughter and Lydia needs her best friend." He told her, taking her hands in his. Slowly Layla's facial expression changed into one more like her own. The kind, caring and protective Layla that he grew up with. "We'll find out what's wrong with you, I promise we'll fix you."

Any hope of Layla returning was gone just like that. Her eyes became a glowing Violet again, only this time Stiles noticed that they were duller, almost as if a hint of black had been added. She snatched her hands out of her twins, curling her lip at him.

"Fix me?" She growled. "There's nothing wrong we me Stiles. Piss off." She turned, and stomped off down the corridor, living her brother to shout after her.

"Layla how do you feel nothing? Your dad and your best friend are lying in hospital and you're acting as though nothing's wrong." He yelled causing Layla to stop in her tracks.

Slowly, she turned to face him, a sinister grin coming upon her face. For the first time ever, Stiles was scared of his sister, if this thing in front of him was even that.

"Oh Stiles. Little, naive Stiles. It's so much easier to feel nothing, especially when you have power. But you'd know that, wouldn't you?

A/N

The first chapter of tonight's updates. I'm loving Layla's character change so far honestly. I really missed writing Layla's character and there's going to be a big difference in her this season.
