A/N: Without further ado~
Long filaments dyed in crimson, tiny bright yellow anthers swaying with the breeze, curled red petals and a healthy green stem. The bunch of flowers that rested on his desk never bothered Izuku. It was a common occurrence. His classmates just loved to give him flowers, specifically spider lilies.
Years of ducking his head and fearing the next strike to his head did no good to Midoriya Izuku, other than making him immune to said blows and also the mockery. Thus, kind gestures such as the flowers that lay on his desk rarely bothered him.
Well, it wasn't exactly the best type of character development but it sure did come in handy sometimes as the less he spoke, the less he was bullied. Not that it actually (or miraculously) resulted in zeroing out the bullying but it was significantly better than ending up with tattered clothes. They say if you pay no attention to their advances, people will stop bothering you. Unfortunately, that wasn't always true.
“Alright class, your final exams are due in two weeks so today marks the last day of your time in Aldera High,” Ikeda-san announced, causing many students to cheer. The teacher smiled at their enthusiasm and gestured for them to calm down, “so today we are going to discuss your career paths, although, I’m pretty sure all of you want to become heroes!”
The students let out a burst of enthusiastic yells and Mr. Ikeda just smiled along, tossing the career forms into the air as if to mock the school rules for whatever favours he could extract from the future “heroes”. An explosion brought them out of their temporary bliss and all eyes landed on a certain blond haired teen whose crimson eyes incarcerated the teacher, well, metaphorically at least.
“Oi sensei, don’t lump me in with these extras,” Bakugou Katsuki drawled, crossing legs on the table, painting the perfect picture of the embodiment of a high-class rowdy. Of course, the student with the most powerful quirk gets away with anything.
"Ah, Bakugou-kun-" the teacher scratched his jaw with a slightly terrified look, "I've heard you're trying for the UA entrance exams. I know you'll get in for sure! You're one of Aldera's best performing students, after all"
Bakugou's eye twitched and he put his legs down only to cross them again, "One of the best? I think you meant "The absolute best", right Sensei?"
"A-ah yes, of course! The absolute best! A-and so we know you'll d-definitely get in"
"Yeah, that's right", The blond grinned, baring sharp canines, "I'll become the No.1 hero, greater than All Might!"
The whole class erupted into a frenzy of voices, mumbles expressing apprehensions, cheers, sighs and slight suppressed booing. Having no other way to calm the class down, Ikeda-san looked at Izuku with glinted eyes and grinned.
"Say, Midoriya-kun? You're applying for the UA entrance exams as well, right?"
And just like that, the entire room turned eerily silent (so much that one could hear Asta yelling from a distant universe)
"A-ah……" Izuku had no idea what to say with eyes full of mockery, disbelief and disgust staring into his already fragile soul. "I uh… thought I could t-try"
"Are you being serious?" One of Bakugou's lackeys snickered, "Quirkless Deku? A hero?"
"The hero society isn't so desperate as to have a human meat shield, Deku," another added.
"Do you really think he's of any use even as a meat shield?" A third generously decided to help the others have some fun.
Izuku bit his lip and clenched his fists, trying his best to tune out the hurtful words and somehow look for a diversion. That was until an explosion on his very desk shattered the thin veil of indifference he had begun to construct.
Bakugou Katsuki stared into his once best friend's eyes, fury barely concealed behind the already saturated hatred. "Don't even try, Deku. A Quirkless reject such as yourself will never, EVER, be allowed into UA"
"B-but," Izuku had no idea why he decided to try, "UA is-isn't like th-that! I'm s-sure if I can tr-try-"
"UA-" another blast, this time the desks beside him flew away at the impact, "-will not tolerate something so useless, so don't. Even. Bother or is it that you think you're above me?"
With a serious lack of anything required to refute, Izuku only stared down at his shoes, trying not to flinch when Bakugou walked away and the class slowly started to settle down.
"Now now, settle down everyone. I'm sure Midoriya-kun had a serious misconception of the prestigious institute but Bakugou-kun has enlightened him now, right Midoriya?"
"..."
"Very well then," the teacher laughed nervously, "let's move on to review your individual performances so far"
And thus the day went by till the sun started to set and it was time to head home. Izuku sighed and started to arrange his notebooks when Bakugou and his lackeys approached him.
"Oi Deku, you better not be thinking about trying to get into UA-" he gritted, cracking his knuckles, "-because I'm in the mood to have some more fun"
"K-kacch… I…"
Even though it had been years and Izuku was old enough to stand on his own feet, he could not ever raise his voice against Bakugou. Years of helplessly groveling at the Blond's feet, flinching and nodding at his every whim had made Izuku utterly vulnerable and obviously traumatized. Izuku hopes that there will come a day when he can look at Bakugou in the eye and prove him wrong, when he would utterly destroy Bakugou Katsuki's arrogance through victory. Unfortunately, this wasn't that day.
"Ne Katsuki, what's that book on the table?"
Oh no. Izuku should've tucked it in sooner.
"Hahh?" Bakugou snatched the book and flipped through the pages before an expression, which Izuku vaguely recognised as a mixture of anger and amusement, painted his face. "What the heck is this, Deku?"
"It says 'Hero Analysis for the future'...." One of the lackeys, a godsend, helped the illiterate blond out.
The other Lackey, sweet soul, tried to explain the title, "Like, analyzing heroes for when he becomes a hero in the future? Gee, he sure has unreasonably high hopes, eh?"
"Deku. Do you seriously think you have even the slightest chance of becoming a hero? You? A QUIRKLESS PIECE OF CRAP?"
Izuku flinched violently and trembled, which Bakugou took notice of for the first time in years but was too furious to ruminate on. "G-Give it back Kac- J-Just give it…. Back…."
Katsuki also noted how Izuku was desperately trying to avoid calling him 'Kacchan'. Why did it make him feel weird?
"You want it back?" Bakugou smiled wickedly, brushing away stray thoughts, "fetch it yourself"
Having said so, the blond blasted the notebook and threw it out the nearest window. Izuku rushed towards it only to find it lying at the bottom of the Koi pond.
"Oops" Lackey #1 chimed from beside, startling Izuku, "you could use a bath though"
The bullies laughed and started to make their way towards the entrance. Katsuki, however, had some valuable parting words to say when he turned to face the green haired teen.
"Oi Deku, you wanna be a hero that bad? There's an easy way for that"
All the others looked at him, confusion etched on their faces.
"Pray that you get a quirk in the next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building"
It was only after popping open his can of soda did Bakugo realize the depth of horror in his words and surprisingly, it made his stomach churn.
Izuku, who had been staring at the ground for a while, too horrified to comprehend what his once best friend and future-hero had just said. When it dawned upon him that is wasn't a dream, Midoriya Izuku had officially lost the last shred of hope of ever mending their friendship….. and trust.
(A/N Hope that was a good start! Thank you for reading ^~^)
