Chapter 63 | Kiss Of Fire

"Good morning, Mia," Eileen greeted her friend as Euphemia approached the Slytherin table for breakfast, concealing her yawn behind her hand.

"Morning," Mia replied sleepily, sitting in the seat beside Eileen and pulling the teapot towards her, pouring the drink into her mug and adding the milk to the tea as Eileen started eating some toast, buttering it swiftly.

It was a Saturday morning in late November and Euphemia had woken up late, hence why she had arrived to breakfast much later than her friend.

Her waking up late was probably due to the fact that she had had the weird recurring dream about Charlus again and it had unhinged her slightly.

Mia hadn't had the dream since about the end of third year, start of fourth year when Charlus had begun to act extremely strangely around her so it was unusual to the girl for her to get the recurring dream around about now.

Walburga was sat at the table as well, not too far away from Eileen and she was discussing something with Heather, the two of them casting furtive looks around them.

"I wonder what they're talking about," Euphemia wondered out-loud as she grabbed a crumpet, buttering it and placing it in her mouth swiftly.

"What? Who?" Eileen questioned, having not heard her friend properly and she became slightly frantic, not wanting Mia to think that she didn't want to converse with her because she definitely did.

"No one," Euphemia mumbled, sipping her tea before glancing over her shoulder at the Gryffindor table, where there seemed to be some sort of food fight emerging.

Alastor appeared to be lobbing a piece of bacon at Charlus, who was covering his face defensively and firing back a few fried eggs in retaliation.

Mia chuckled to herself, her eyes landing a little longer on Charlus than was necessary as butterflies swirled around in her stomach whilst she watched his eyes widen as a sausage narrowly missed his face.

Minerva was sat in the middle of the miniature food fight and was giggling away whilst trying to also look disapproving.

Lyall was sat a little further down the table, not paying attention to the food fight and enthusiastically telling Eugenia a story as she listened avidly, her chin cupped in her hands, her blue eyes shining quite happily.

Eugenia happened to glance up at that moment and Euphemia sent her a thumbs up, smiling encouragingly and Eugenia grinned back before looking pointedly at Charlus, raising an eyebrow knowingly at Mia.

Euphemia blushed slightly at what her friend was insinuating but she couldn't help but let her eyes slide to Charlus, who was now being carted off by an amused but disapproving Professor Dumbledore, alongside Alastor as they were scolded.

Charlus caught Mia's gaze and winked as Dumbledore sent the two of them back to the Gryffindor table, informing them (with a significant amount of concealed amusement) that food battles such as the one they had started would be not be tolerated.

Alastor saluted Dumbledore, nodding solemnly before cracking up into laughter as soon as the Deputy Headmaster turned his back as Charlus started sniggering.

Eileen suddenly whacked her on the arm, causing Euphemia to stop staring at Charlus and spin around, glancing at her friend in irritation and curiosity.

"What is it?" Mia asked, a slightly annoyed expression flashing over her face and Eileen gulped before leaning towards Euphemia, whispering in her ear, "Druella was watching you. And she didn't look happy."

Mia's face paled slightly but she didn't let it deter her for once - usually she would've stopped doing whatever she was doing to try and keep Druella in check but she found herself not doing that this time.

Her eyes flicked up to meet Druella's threatening gaze and, although her cousin's narrowed eyes sent a slight shiver through her body, Euphemia simply shrugged and smiled innocently at Druella.

Druella's mouth parted slightly in shock at her cousin's nerve but, before she could say anything, Mia finished eating her crumpet and downed the rest of her tea, walking out of the Great Hall swiftly.

Eileen stayed sat in her seat, blinking slightly in surprise at her friend's abrupt exit and she span around in her seat to see whether Euphemia required any company but saw, with a sinking heart, that she had already met up with Minnie.

"Hey Mia!" Minerva greeted her, jumping up from the Gryffindor table and embracing her best friend quickly, pulling her out of the Great Hall by the hand as Eileen watched on slightly miserably from the Slytherin table.

"That was an enthusiastic greeting," Euphemia commented with a laugh and Minnie grinned in reply, pulling her long brown hair out of it's messy ponytail and allowing it to cascade down her back.

"Say, would you like to hang out with us today? I'm in the need of some female company," Minerva said to Mia, who gave her best friend a suspicious look, "And who exactly is 'us'?" she asked curiously.

Minnie smiled brightly before pointing through the masses of students that were coming out of the Great Hall into the Entrance Hall, where the two girls were stood, to Alastor Moody and Charlus Potter sat on the end of the Gryffindor table.

Euphemia's heart stopped slightly at the sight of Charlus, who was now slightly subdued due to being told off by Dumbledore about the miniature food fight but he was still sniggering away about something with Alastor, the two of them digging into their now no longer flying breakfasts.

The prospect of spending her entire Saturday in the company of the devastatingly charming Charlus Potter made Mia feel rather dizzy but also excited and, before she knew it, she was nodding and agreeing to hang out with Minerva, Alastor and Charlus for the day.

"Brilliant! I'll just wait for them to finish eating as they've only just started - they began the morning throwing food at each other, you see," Minnie told Euphemia with a chuckle.

Mia nodded and informed the Gryffindor that she had been watching the entire scenario play out from the Slytherin table, which caused Minerva to send her a knowing look with a playful nudge in the ribs, leading Euphemia to scowl at her best friend.

"I'm surprised you didn't end up splattered with food at the rate those two were going," Mia hastily changed the subject and, although Minnie could see what she was trying to do, she humoured the girl anyway.

"I'm very good at dodging," Minnie responded before beckoning towards Alastor and Charlus, who had since emerged from the Great Hall, with a slightly mischievous glint in her eye which naturally got Euphemia feeling a little wary and she eyed them all with caution as they approached.

"Ready?" Alastor asked Minerva and Charlus before sending a surprised look at Mia, "You joining us?" he asked his friend, taken aback as she wasn't usually one of the ones to join in with the three's pranking escapades.

Euphemia raised an eyebrow before turning to a rather sheepish looking Minnie with her hands on her hips, staring quite sternly at her best friend, "Joining you in what, hm?" she asked slowly.

Minerva actually appeared to be nervous as, when she had invited Mia to hang out with them for the day, she had forgotten slightly to mention to the girl that they were probably going to be pranking someone or causing some sort of mischief.

Charlus watched Euphemia stare at Minnie sternly and he couldn't help but appreciate how attractive she actually looked in that moment - for some reason, he felt more pulled to her when she was being bossy and intimidating, even if it was only in a playful fashion with Minerva.

Whilst Minnie quickly pulled Mia to one side to explain what she would probably be getting herself into, Alastor suddenly elbowed him in the side and whispered, "Mate, you need to stop staring. You're making it obvious," he whispered to Charlus.

Charlus immediately flushed a little and began to stammer, not aware that his best mate had actually noticed that he had been staring at Euphemia quite longingly, "I-I wasn't-" he protested feebly before lamenting at Alastor's raised eyebrow.

The girls suddenly turned back to the boys rather quickly, affirming that they were ready to go and that Mia was well briefed on the situation at hand.

Euphemia actually looked quite excited which made Charlus' stomach flip before he nodded calmly and started bounding up the marble staircase with surprising speed for a boy that had just bolted down an entire full English breakfast.

Alastor was close behind him and, even though Mia had been taught to walk delicately and elegantly up and down stairs, she found herself being pulled along by Minerva up the staircase and soon she was thundering along the corridor without a care in the world.

"We'll start here," Alastor informed the girls behind them and he and Charlus bent down, the pair of them pointing their wands at a suit of armour and murmuring some sort of charm that transformed it into a different position that it had been standing previously....a rather compromising position in fact.

Euphemia stifled a snort of laughter behind her hand and Charlus sent her a fleeting grin which led her to blush slightly as Minnie and Alastor exchanged a knowing look.

"I bet I can do better than that," Mia suddenly challenged, feeling quite queasy after Charlus' grin and all three of them stared at her in surprise as she flexed her fingers and cracked her knuckles before gripping her wand and speeding around the corner to find the next suit of armour, where there actually happened to be two side by side.

She aimed her wand at them, imagining a position she never would've even dreamed of if it hadn't of been for Alastor and Charlus' incredibly filthy but also amusing position. This one was partly inspired by them and also fuelled by her utter determination and competitiveness to win the bet.

"Wait! What are we betting on exactly, darling?" Charlus asked her as he leant against the wall, the accidental affectionate nickname slipping out before he could stop it and it took all of Minerva's self control not to squeal like a maniac, especially when Euphemia turned brick red at the term of endearment.

Ignoring the sudden rush of joy and also a feeling that she couldn't describe at Charlus' use of the word 'darling' when addressing her, Mia stroked her chin thoughtfully, smirking slightly.

"How about your broomstick?" she suggested and, before he could even open his mouth to protest, she waved her wand at the two suits of armour and transformed them into an incredibly compromising position indeed that made Alastor howl with laughter and caused Minnie to giggle incessantly.

Euphemia beamed a little too proudly as Charlus began to chuckle along with the rest of them, quickly high fiving her as he wiped away tears of mirth from his eyes, "Oh, you're good. That's spiffing," he sniggered, his touch from the high five rendering Mia pretty senseless.

"I'm not done yet," she smirked again and quickly muttered a spell underneath her breath, imagining and pondering on a phrase that she wanted the suits of armour to say.

Amusement lit up her eyes, which (again) made Charlus' stomach flip slightly as he crossed his arms, a wavering smirk fluttering across his face whilst he watched Euphemia at work - deciding that he liked the mischievous side of her much better.

Suddenly, just as Minerva and Alastor held their breath in anticipation and as Charlus watched Mia with an almost secret fascination and admiration, one of the suited armours garbled out (rather seductively, mind), "Give me your lips, the lips you only let me borrow."

There was a moment of stunned silence and Alastor began to clap as Charlus laughed in complete and utter surprise that Euphemia would actually make one of the suits of armour sing out a rather seductive ballad from the Muggle world of music.

But, Mia's job was not finished yet and she held up a finger to quieten her friends as she pricked her ears for the next line, which soon came from the other suit of armour (who was still fixed into a suggestive position with the other suit of armour).

"Love me tonight and let the devil take tomorrow," the other suit of armour crooned and Minnie gasped with laughter, recognising the some from one of the records that her mother, Isabel, would like to blast whenever her Reverend father wasn't home.

However, just as the four teenagers marvelled at Euphemia's mischievous side and cried with laughter at the suits of armour wrapped around one another, singing a seductive ballad to each other, another person came into the corridor. And he wasn't very pleased.

"What's going on here then?" the Head Boy's voice came from behind them and all four of them span around slowly, the girl's' eyes both widening as the boys smirked slightly at the sight of Elphinstone Urquart.

"Oh, Elphie," Charlus sighed with mock sadness as he placed a hand over his heart, batting his eyelashes, "Why do you always have to spoil our fun?" he asked, sticking out his lower lip.

"Because that's my job," Elphinstone said through slightly gritted teeth as he was trying not to laugh at the position that the suits of armours were in currently, "What's is the meaning of....this?" he asked, waving his hands at the suits of armours...uh...cuddling.

Minerva concealed a giggle behind her hands and Elphinstone turned his stern gaze to her, which quickly quietened her even though she saw that there was a little bit of amusement behind his otherwise serious expression.

"It was all Charlus Potter," Mia suddenly piped up, pointing at the boy in question quite accusingly with a smirk on her face as Elphinstone turned to her, having not realised she was amongst them due to her being so small.

Charlus' mouth dropped open at her nerve whilst Alastor started to snigger again, laughing uncontrollably at his mate's shocked expression. Elphinstone raised his eyebrow at Charlus, commenting, "Is that so? Why am I not surprised?"

"For once, I didn't actually have anything to do with this, I swear!" Charlus protested, holding his hands up in surrender, "But I wish I had because it's bloody genius," he sent an approving look in Euphemia's direction, who blushed at the compliment.

"What? You're expecting me to believe Mia Black did this?" the Head Boy asked - Euphemia was known for having a pretty impeccable reputation and he found it hard to believe that she had formed the suits of armour into such a rude position.

"Exactly!" Mia exclaimed, batting her eyelashes innocently, "I would never do such a thing," she said with a twinkle of mischief in her blue - grey eyes and Elphinstone frowned a little in thought.

At that moment, though, one of the suits of armour (who was now stroking the other suit of armour) started garbling, "I know that I must have your kiss although it dooms me," which took Elphinstone by surprise and he actually jumped, clutching at his chest.

Alastor snorted; Minerva choked as she tried to stop her laughter; Charlus sniggered again and Euphemia's 'innocent' expression creased into amusement as she bowed her head, shaking with mirth.

"You fifth years will be the death of me," Elphinstone muttered with an exasperated sigh though he also had the strange urge to laugh because the scenario was just too funny and he wished he wasn't Head Boy at that moment so that he could share in their fun.

"Though it consumes me, your kiss of fire," the other suit of armour suddenly sang out in response to the other one and this only set the teenagers off chortling again whilst Elphinstone fought the temptation to laugh.

"Is that Kiss Of Fire by Georgia Gibbs, by any chance?" the seventh year suddenly asked, not being able to help himself as he was a half blood himself and his muggle mother enjoyed listening to that very recently released (just in August 1951, in fact) but extremely catchy song.

"I wouldn't know," Mia replied with amusement tickling her tone whilst the rest of her friends looked on, amused immensely by the whole situation, "Seeing as I didn't do any of this, it was all Potter."

"Yes, blame it on the innocent," Charlus muttered but he was secretly glad that she was actually paying him this much attention as she normally avoided him and didn't provoke any conversation nor interaction.

"Innocent? Hardly," Alastor retorted with a scoff, having heard his mate's comment, despite it being under Charlus' breath, and the boy in question simply scowled at Alastor and punched him playfully on the arm.

"Behave," Elphinstone said sternly to the boys, as if he was talking to misbehaving dogs and Minerva and Euphemia exchanged a simultaneously gleeful and amused glance.

"Whichever one of you did it," he gestured awkwardly to the suits of armour with a slight cough, "Please reverse the spell," he requested but the four teenagers knew that it was more of a command than a request.

Everyone in the corridor, with the exception of Elphinstone who still didn't suspect the Slytherjn girl, looked at Mia, who now appeared even more amused but also quite sheepish and she was looking down at the ground.

"The only problem is...." she dragged out the statement, "I don't know how," Euphemia said in a small voice and Charlus and Alastor started laughing away again as Minnie closed her eyes, looking incredibly entertained whilst Elphinstone's face turned pale with lividity.

"You mean to say..." he practically hissed, "That these suits of armour are stuck garbling some sexy song that a Muggle woman wrote and sung whilst trapped in an extremely compromising position that is not very....uh....pleasant to the eye?" Elphinstone asked in a suppressed fury.

Mia didn't seem at all deterred by the Head Boy's little outburst and she yawned before fixing a placid expression on her face and shrugging, "Yeah, sounds about right. That's pretty much it, Elphie," she responded calmly, using Charlus' nickname for the seventh year.

"All of you....to Professor Dumbledore's office....now!" Elphinstone growled at them and Alastor span around to high five Euphemia before the four of them scattered off to the Deputy Headmaster's office, still chuckling away.

"That was amazing!" Charlus whispered to Mia and she reddened slightly at the compliment before giggling and doing a graceful curtesy, "Glad to be of service," she replied with a bright smile.

Charlus' heart stopped beating for a moment because she hadn't directed a genuine smile at him for a long time and he'd forgotten how stunning it was and how it always managed to suck the breath out of him.

"I've never seen this side of you before," he carried on as they walked along the corridor behind Alastor and Minerva to Dumbledore's office and Euphemia sent him a shy look before mumbling, "Neither have I."

"And do you enjoy pranking and causing trouble, then?" Charlus persisted, liking that he was actually having a genuine conversation with Mia Black without either of them storming out, whether in anger or upset, or arguing at all.

Euphemia raised an eyebrow at him, "I've done one prank, Charlus. I highly doubt that I'm a professional prankster," she reminded him with a slight curve of her lips as her eyes twinkled with humour.

"Oh, you have a lot to learn, sweetheart," Charlus sighed with a chuckle, not noticing how her eyes widened at the second term of endearment that day and Mia sent him a wobbly smile, trying to ignore the fact that her heart rate just sped up.

However, it became pretty hard to ignore her erratic heartbeat in the end because Charlus, albeit hesitantly, wrapped an arm around her shoulders to steer her in the right direction of Dumbledore's office and Euphemia was certain she forgot how to breathe for a second.

Hey guys! Sorry for the late update, I've been quite ill recently but hopefully I'm getting better :)

Hope you all enjoyed this chapter! (I think it was much nicer than some of the horrible ones I've been forcing on you as of late, don't you think?)
