Chapter One

I woke up to the sun shining through my bedroom window. I glanced over at my alarm clock.  June 6th, 2016, 6:13am.

"Ugh..." I groaned.  "Monday already..?" Why are the weekends always so short? I slowly got up out of my warm bed, pulled on my school uniform, and walked into the bathroom.  I tiredly styled my messy brown hair and walked downstairs to my family who were already eating breakfast. My dad was sitting at the table reading the paper and sipping his coffee from time to time while my mom was feeding my one year-old sister, Zoe, baby food (which Zoe hated).

"Good morning, Sweetheart!" My mom chirped smiling happily.  "Only three more days until school's out for the summer!" I flashed her a small smile. "Yep!" I glanced over at Zoe who slapped her Pears & Spinach baby food away and onto the floor. "Zoe... Honey, you need to eat this. It's good for you." My mom groaned, getting another spoon.

"Nononono!" Zoe screamed at no one in particular. I've gotta get out of here before I'm dragged into this. "Uh, see you guys later. Love you! Bye!" I said quickly, grabbing a banana muffin and my book bag. I ran outside to the curb, waited for the stoplight to turn red so I could cross.

The light changed from green to red about thirty seconds later and I rushed across the street. A few minutes later, I arrived at my school, Knockwurst High. The school is really old (I think fifty-three years old to be exact), the brick walls were a dark, ugly, red with the paint slowly peeling, there was graffiti on trees, walls, and even on the door. Some letters were missing from the sign above the entrance, which caused it to say "nokwus" instead of Knockwurst. Inside the school, it was even worse. The classrooms smell like dead fish, the teachers are jerks, the cafeteria food was horrible (which is why I and most kids pack our lunches), and the school football team's jerseys had never been replaced so they smell and look horrible.

The other kids rushed by me trying to get into the school before the bell rang except one boy who just tackled me. "Oliver!!" My friend Mason yelled as he sat on top of me. "Hi Mason," I mumbled lightly. "Please get off of me."

He got up and flashed me a bright smile. Mason Michael Swanton had been my best friend since kindergarten. He had soft, short blonde hair and lime green eyes. He was about 6'2" and he always wore a black leather jacket and had sunglasses on top of his head.We always had the same teacher and classes. I never got in trouble while Mason... Well, he's one of a kind. Always thinking of pranks to pull on teachers and other students, then getting in trouble right after.

"Welp, guess I'll be seein' ya in class! Toodles!" He said with his usual mischievous grin, then he ran into the school. I slowly got up and looked at the old school. "Three more days Oliver, you can do this." I said to myself. And with that, I walked into the school, ready for another day.
