Chapter 11

My eyes were deceiving me. This was not the end of my last grandparent. On my knees, the cold swirled around me 'till I shivered. Anxiously I looked up. But it was true; he was dead. I tightened my hands to a fist digging my sharp nails deep into my once soft skin. The pain of what I just encountered was nothing compared to what I had just seen.

Slowly, the tears appeared and started falling. "No... NO!" I screamed, banging my fist on the cold hard ground. Suddenly something shiny rolled in front of me. The watch. I looked up at it in wonder, my eyes never darting away. This was the last thing that my grandfather has given me and I would always cherish it. I slowly bent down and picked it up, examining it. I played around with it and realized what it was. My father once told me a story of a watch that could time travel. There were only 2 in existence and I was now one of the lucky people to own one. Or so I thought. I placed it down and took a step away, lost in thought with only my unanswered questions to guide me. I looked at it some more and his words hit me! With this unordinary watch, anyone can back to the past or to the future. It was my job to protect it from falling into the wrong hands.

I placed it in a box which would be the last time I saw it. Never known that it would be stolen from within my grasp. As I left the room, I quickly dashed it inside my closet and turned off the light, closing the door along the way.

(Mason's P.O.V.)

He didn't know I was there. Or at least I didn't think he did. I watched him walk out of the closet, leaving the watch unattended. Once he was gone, I shot up and stepped inside. I broke in through the window. Luckily for me, his room was on the first floor so it was easy to get inside. Once I was in, I quickly opened the closet to reveal where the watch was. Just as thought. I saw it in the near right corner sticking out under a pile of dirty laundry. I grabbed it and was about to exit the closet when I heard, "Oh shoot, I forgot a sweatshirt."

I realized that he was coming back upstairs, and fast! I closed the door quietly behind me and took a quick breath. As I did, I heard a slight creek of the door and he walked inside. That's when it hit me. He kept all his sweatshirts in the closet, sadly there was no place to go. I looked around trying to find hope as the door was opened, revealing bright light.

I looked up. Busted. I quickly looked back down in dismay. My friendship is over, what could I possibly do to fix this? The idea was piecing itself together in my brain. No... No I could never. "Mason?" I heard his voice audible through the ones in my head.

"What are you doing here?" There was no choice, I would have to use it on my best friend even though this might end everything we ever had... Or ever will. I narrowed my eyes at him and let out a sigh. "Well..." I began looking to be blank minded. "I was just- think fast!" I flipped open the watch just as I began to hear some screaming from downstairs. I wonder who that could be?

"Mason, please don't do this!" The screaming got louder and someone burst in. The police in their uniforms holding a gun. "Put your hands above your head!" The policeman said in a demanding voice.

The watch in my hands vibrated meaning it was all powered up. The police took one look at it and jumped back, unsure of what the bright colors and vibrations meant.

"I'm really sorry, Cas!" I quickly held the watch to my chest and mumbled, "Take me 3 years into the future."

The watch began vibrating more and more violently, before a bright-green light flashed and I was gone.
