Chapter 9

When Itachi entered the office the next day, he got shocked when Naruto was already there. Usually Itachi came early to avoid people, never had an employee come earlier than him. "Good morning Itachi!" Naruto greeted, waving happily at the dark haired male. Naruto reminded him of the sun, nice and warm. The look on the blond's face, Itachi couldn't help himself as he smiled warmly at Naruto.
"Good morning." Itachi returned the greeting as he sipped on his coffee. Itachi leaned on Naruto's desk, both enjoying each other's silent company. Itachi on his phone, scrolling through his social media and reading the news. No words needed to be exchanged between the two, it felt perfectly normal and comfortable. People had never understood that Itachi was more introverted than he lets on - always needing to attend functions and events to socialise because of who he is was honestly the most troublesome and draining thing. In doing so, he created an image that made people think that they should be filling the silences in his presence when all he wanted was some peace and quiet. Naruto had been one of the few people that ever understood what he needed and wanted, Naruto knew exactly when to speak up and when Itachi wasn't in the mood to deal with human contact. The blond was the only one that manages to even work out that behaviour and could easily work around it so that Itachi is not constantly tired and angry about having to interact with others. Naruto would turn people away when he knows it was not important enough to demand an audience with the boss, his previous secretaries would just let anyone and everyone that asks to see Itachi in.

Whenever Naruto needed to ask something when Itachi was in his little don't-talk-to-me bubble, he would just shoot Itachi a text. A text in this generation was so much easier than a face to face conversation and lets not even mention how much easier a text is compared to a phone call.

Itachi looked up, observing the beautiful man before his eyes. His spiky blond hair had a soft glow to it as the morning sun seeps in through the window. It made him look like he had a halo on. Itachi smiled to himself, pleased with the view he got; Naruto was an absolute angel and even mother nature agrees with him. Naruto was typing away when Itachi broke through his train of thoughts with a question. "What are you doing here so early?" Naruto froze, he didn't want to tell Itachi. Instead, he lied, "I was bored at home."

"You could be sleeping, it's only 7. Work starts at 9." Itachi suggested. Naruto shrugged it off and continued the typing. Itachi knew Naruto wasn't speaking the truth but he didn't press it, he moved to be comfortable but also face Naruto. "How are you enjoying the office so far?"
"I like it. People are nice." Naruto said, grimacing at the angry phone calls he had to face, making Itachi chuckle. "It's not funny." Naruto whined, making Itachi laugh harder at his expression. He looks so cute. Itachi mused as he composed himself. Naruto stared, Itachi laughing was a rare sight to behold. The taller man was so beautiful and graceful when he laughed out loud, Naruto just looked like a gasping mess when he laughs... it has been so long since he laughed with someone. Itachi had been the one to make him laugh on the Venice trip, he has never laughed so hard in his life before.

"You don't have to lie you know. You could curse this company out and I'd still keep you around until you decide that you have enough." Naruto raised an eyebrow at that, why would the man do that? "Well, I have seen you work and you have been the best so far compared to the others even though you've only been here for one day." Naruto made an 'ah' expression as if understanding everything.
"Definitely not going to curse the company out since this is my first well paying job." Naruto muttered to himself but Itachi heard him anyways. Itachi nodded to himself before shifting his weight on the polished oak table, it was hard to not get mesmerised with the way Naruto worked. He was so focused and yet sometimes the blond seems to be singing in his head as his body would do a tiny wiggle. Itachi blinked, snapping himself out of his staring before it got awkward. The two of them decided to just start discussing business since they were both here already, might as well make the most of their time. Naruto jotted down notes of what Itachi wanted to be done then listed out Itachi's agenda for the day even though it was already all set up onto Itachi's phone. Naruto flipped his planner, blocking out the times which Itachi said he wasn't available for appointments or meetings etc. Even though Naruto knew that the man wasn't gonna be away for anything, he also knew that Itachi didn't have much patience to deal with them 24/7.

"Itachi, you haven't had lunch." Naruto phoned in. Itachi's lip twitched when he noticed the blond sounded concerned.
"Neither have you." Itachi replied calmly, faintly hearing Naruto choke at getting exposed. Naruto sighed, the man always has to find a way to attack Naruto for his amusement. "How about I call to get us something to eat? It's too hot to go outside to eat." Naruto said, "what would you like to have?"
"Surprise me." Itachi said and hung up, leaving no room for the blond to argue. He looked up to see the blond glaring at him through the shutters and he shot his secretary an amused smirked, making him huff and turn away childishly.

Food came and Naruto took it into Itachi's office for him. The blond was about to leave when Itachi called out to him, "Naruto."
"Yes?"
"Would you like to stay and accompany me for lunch?" Naruto flushed at the request, pausing before nodding quickly and heading to his desk to retrieve his lunch. The two sat at the 2 couches that had a coffee table situated between them, chatting idly as they ate. They had no idea how the conversation could flow so smoothly between them but they are glad it did as it only served to strengthen the bond that had begun forming.
