Chapter 14

Phil's POV

"PJ's here!" Dan yelled, opening the door and dragging PJ to where I was sat.

"Phil!" his familiar voice cooed as he hugged me. He seemed physically distant, like he didn't know what to do with me. "Oh God, Phil, how are you, mate?"

"I'm alright," I answer. "It's gotten better, I guess. I can't see but, you know. How are you?"

"Great!"

We caught up, talking like old friends for an hour or so before Dan finally brought up filming together. With nothing specifically planned, PJ decided to think of creative games on the spot for ideas. He seemed hesitant, avoiding things that involved sight. I knew what he was doing, but I didn't want him to be like that. I didn't want anyone to.

"You don't have to treat me special or be any different around me, Peej," I had told him. "Just because I can't see doesn't change anything. And I don't take offense to things that have to do with seeing. It's okay, really."

He breathed. "Alright. I just really feel bad for what's happened. Also for not being there the minute it did. I should have rushed over."

I laughed a little. "PJ, it's fine!"

He didn't say anything, so I had to guess that he was smiling. With Dan, it was easier to tell.

Dan and him filmed a video first and answered some strange sounding questions. They came out of Dan's room quicker than I thought and began setting up in mine. By the time I inched my way over, they were all ready for me.

"So what do you want to do?" PJ asked. "What do you do now?"

"Dan got me a braille board," I suggested. "Maybe we could do something with that?" I've never been so out of ideas. I just wanted my friend and Dan with me.

"Sure."

Dan brought it to him, and we began to film. In our little video, I taught PJ what to do and how to make words.

"Oh, cool," he said, seeming intrigued. "The little tiles have letters on them so I know what they mean."

"Yeah! You can arrange them to make words and sentences."

"Oh really?" he said. I paid attention to the sound of his fingers as they were moving with the tiles. "What does this say?"

I reached over in search for his words. Dan always brought my fingers down to where the words began, but I wasn't going to tell PJ to do that. I did it myself and felt over the dots silently. P... J... I... S... T... H... E... B... E...

"PJ is the beat!" I said quickly. "Wait, what?"

He burst out laughing, and I did to. "That's an S!" he said. "Not A! PJ is the best, not the 'beat!'"

I laughed at my mistake. "I'm learning still!"

"It doesn't make sense. A doesn't even look like S."

"Oops!" I giggled again.

We wrapped the video up, and hung out more with PJ until he said he had to leave.

"I had a lot of fun," he said, "but I should be going."

"Alright," Dan said. "Thanks for coming, Peej."

"Yeah, no problem. I'm happy I could see you guys again. Bye Dan," he said, then "bye Phil," touching my shoulder.

We said bye in sync.

"And also," he said lastly while away from me. I pictured him at the door. "I'm really happy for you guys."

I smiled and thanked him. I heard the door close.

Dan's POV

"How did your video with PJ go?" I asked Phil, remembering their joyful laughter that could be heard from the lounge.

"Great," he said. "Will you help me edit?"

"Of course. But I'm so lazy. Can I do it later?"

"Whenever you want to," he said kindly, reaching his hands out to me and touching my face, then pecking it with a kiss.

~~~
Later that night, I was laying in bed with Phil and my phone. Phil had gone peacefully to sleep, so I was texting PJ.
'I had fun today with you guys,' he said.
'Yeah, us too'
'We should hang out more often ^_^'
'Yeah!'
'Is Phil holding up ok? :/ I feel kinda bad still'
'He's ok. He's asleep rn <3'
'Did you see that thing online? About that optician who wants to try a new surgery?'
'No, what do you mean?' I got confused.
'Yeah there's this eye surgeon in London who wants to try some new surgery. Idk too much about it. I figured you might have seen it'
'Where did you see this?'
PJ didn't respond for almost ten minutes, but eventually did. He sent a link and a caption: 'Found it! :D'
I went into it and began to read. PJ was right. Some new, yet experienced eye doctor wanted to try a new surgery - one that has never been done before. She wanted to try to do repairs to a damaged optic nerve, and she believed she could help someone see again. I choked on my own breath and my heart beat like mad.
"All I need is someone willing to try," she claimed.
I glanced at Phil. His sleeping breath was soft and controlled. He would want to see again, wouldn't he? I was too crazed about it. I received another text from PJ.
'Dan??'
I decided not to answer. I laid down close to Phil and kissed him.
I imagined what he would be like if he found out that he could have a chance to see again.
