Invitations and Worries
23-year-old Courtney Taint waved goodbye to her mailman as he walked back down her street towards his next location. Her mail held tightly in her tan hand. She slowly turned and headed back inside, gently closing the door behind her.
Courtney hummed a little as she flipped through her mail. Bill, bill, fan letter, bill...
Courtney raised a brow as she flipped the next bill over to reveal a cream colored envelope. With her best friend and her boyfriend's names on it. Geoff and Bridgette. She set her other mail down and slowly slid a sharp nail though the paper, opening it and sliding the neatly folded letter out. Her eyes slowly widened as she began reading what was written.
"Courtney, you are cordially invited to Geoff Levy and Bridgette Greene's engagement party. The theme is champagne and lace. Location is McLean manor, 834 George Street. Please, come and celebrate this exciting time, on Saturday December 20th. All invited will be staying at the McLean Manor for 7 days enjoying champagne, sharing stories, and enjoying each other's company,"
Courtney blinked a little, and looked at the small cursive writing clearly written by Bridgette in the lower corner, specifically for her.
"Courtney, please come. I figured I can't have an engagement party without a bridesmaid. Yes, Geoff insisted I invite most of our fellow cast mates. I know you're still in a bad place with a lot of them, but please. I can't imagine spending this week without you. Much love, Bridgette,"
Courtney grumbled a little to herself. There was no denying it. She had to go, this was her best friend's engagement party after all. Who cares people who drive her absolutely mad would be there? She could focus on Bridgette, and no one else. Easy enough, right?
She sighed and put her head in her hands.
This was going to be an interesting week.
The McLean Manor was an impressive sight. Considering the fact that Chris was currently in jail for cruel punishment of all the cast on Total Drama. Courtney swallowed hard as her limo pulled up to the front of the Manor. She slowly took a deep breath as she opened her own door. Pulling her short black cocktail dress down as she did. She held her purse close as she advanced up the staircase towards the main door.
As soon as she opened the door, a wave of different voices washed over her.
"Oh Geoffy Poo I can't wait until the wedding!"
"Ugh, Cody stop flirting with Noah already,"
"I think Lindsey's tanning addiction needs medical help,"
"Are you Tyler?"
Courtney sighed and shut her eyes. She knew every one of those voices all too well. As soon as she door shut behind her, Bridgette's attention turned towards her. Their eyes met, and Bridgette squealed with delight
"You made it!" she cheered happily. Courtney smiled awkwardly
"Uh, yeah. I guess I did," Court winced as the blonde rushed forward and threw her arms around her shoulders. Engulfing her in a giant hug. Courtney hugged her dear friend back just as tightly
"I'm so glad you made it," Bridgette murmured against Courtney's shoulder. Courtney smiled a little.
"Hey Mocha, glad you could make it," Geoff said as he came into the parlor. He hadn't changed much, except that he no longer wore that cowboy hat. And managed to trim up his once wild blond hair. But Courtney had the feeling that was more Bridgette's doing.
"Wow, you actually learned how to button a shirt," Courtney teased, noticing he no longer wore that stupid pink unbuttoned shirt. But changed it for a dark blue v-neck shirt instead.
Geoff smirked and shrugged "Hey, I've changed. What can I say?"
Courtney smiled and Bridgette led her into the massive living area down the hall. Members of the cast all seemed happy to see her. Even Heather. Weird.
Bridgette probably paid them to be nice
Courtney sighed at her thoughts a little, and pulled her suitcase close to her
"Have we discussed living arrangements yet?" she asked. Bridgette shrugged
"I just figured couples would sleep together-"
Courtney narrowed her eyes at her friend, and Bridgette's mouth snapped shut
"Unless," she coughed "Of course you're single. Uh, singles sleep with singles,"
Courtney looked around, Lindsey was hanging on Tyler's arm, seemingly already drunk from the champagne. Heather and Alejandro were chatting quietly by the fireplace, a small smirk on his lips as he whispered in her ear. Noah and Cody were sitting awkwardly next to each other on the couch, their thighs just barely touching-but just enough to know they were there. Bridgette and Geoff were flirting and kissing up on each other behind her. Owen and Izzy were in the kitchen, probably searching Chris's pantry for anything they found good.
Courtney slowly turned and looked back at Bridgette, who clearly noticed her predicament.
"Well, I guess you get your own room!" Bridgette said. Courtney rolled her eyes and huffed, walking over and taking a seat next to Cody. Who gave her a warm smile
"Hey Court, how's life been treating you?" Cody asked, the gap in his teeth making him have a slight lisp. Courtney smiled tiredly at the guy
"Like shit," she said. Cody blinked, surprised by the girl's mouth. Noah snickered a little
"Miss CIT knows how to swear?" he teased, throwing a lazy arm around Cody's shoulders. Cody blushed in response.
"Miss CIT can be surprising at times," Courtney giggled.
She heard the front doors open once again, and heard a pair of footsteps walk into the parlor. Bridgette mumbled something to these new people, but was too quiet for the rest of them to hear.
But as soon as the pair walked into the living area, Courtney caught a glimpse of teal hair. Courtney felt a lump rise in her throat as Gwen and Trent walked in holding hands. Trent had his signature guitar slung around his shoulders, his moss green eyes warm and welcoming. Gwen's hair had grown out a little, she now wore a pair of ripped up black skinny jeans and a simple teal plaid shirt. She changed her lip color to a simple black.
Courtney stared down at her hands, trying to ignore them as they walked past.
As soon as the filming of All Stars had ended, Courtney had fled. Moved to New York to focus on her law career. She never answered any of Gwen's texts or calls. Sure, the two had made up on the show. But that didn't stop Courtney from feeling that familiar twinge of hurt in her heart. She realized after the show ended, that she simply could never be friends with the girl who hooked up with the love of her life. She had cut everyone out of her life, except Bridgette and Geoff of course. Those two never questioned her decision of leaving. They always supported her through every thing.
"Hey Courtney,"
Courtney blinked out of her thoughts, and looked up at Gwen who was standing in front of her now. Courtney swallowed hard, and blinked again
"Hi," she squeaked out. Gwen opened her mouth to speak again, when the door opened again. A heavy set of feet walked into the parlor.
"I brought beer," a hauntingly familiar voice said.
Courtney's head snapped in the direction of the voice out of habit, her heart racing. Her palms sweating. As soon as she made eye contact with those beautiful teal eyes she regretted it.
It was Duncan.
