Jen and Tom (Ten)

Old Opinion: "The reason Jen and Tom are considered a ship is because the Ridonculous Race has stated quite a few times they are only friends.  Therefore, it is only wishful thinking that they will get together, making this actually a ship.

So, what do I think of this ship.  To tell the truth, I absolutely adore the idea of these two characters in a relationship.  Both characters have a lot in common with each other, including their obsession for fashion.  Additionally, they both run a fashion blog back home together and do not have a huge age gap between them.  (Jen is 22 while Tom is 24.)  I would love if they got into a relationship in the future, which I could see happening if they return to the Ridonculous Race for a second season.  It is just a perfect idea to toy with, both for the fans and the writers of the show.  I'm really surprised it hasn't happened yet.  This relationship would just be too perfect."

New Opinion:  Boy, are you guys going to kill me now for how I feel about Jen and Tom getting together.  My opinion has really taken quite the heel turn from the year before, going from complete support to torn in two.  The reason for this is due to the strong friendship these characters already share with each other, which could be ruined with a relationship.  As I've said in the past, I value friendship more in popular culture versus romantic relationships.  Friendship is a bond between two or more people that is like a brotherhood.  You look out for each other, protect one another from harm's way, and even learn a thing or two about life from the experiences you'll share together.  Romance can do some of this too, but it can lead in most cases to just lust.  The last thing I want is for Jen and Tom's characters to get ruined if they started dating.  Character traits that made them interesting to watch such as their split opinions about the future of the fashion blog and their quirks getting the best of one of them could potentially disappear, making their characters very one noted.  Characterization wise, it would be a huge risk to decide to get these two together and the last thing the creators need at this point is more fan controversy.  They got enough of that with Duncan and Gwen's relationship, as well as a huge chuck of All-Stars.  More of it might lead to the show's cancelation.

However, if done right, Jen and Tom's relationship could work really well.  To do this, all you would need to do is add conflict and their quirks that we all enjoyed in the first place stay untouched.  For example, you could have them worry about their relationship screwing up their blog, which leads them to a fear of failure.  Conflict is why canon couples like Duncney worked so well before, and their relationships weren't just card board cutout cliche after cliche.  We want to feel something towards these characters, and gain a reason to roast in favor of them staying together.  In this way, Ten could work great, but only if handled right.

Overall, I kind of want this ship to become canon and I kind of don't.  I worry about their characters getting ruined from dating, but feel there maybe is a chance it could be saved with great storytelling elements.
