Gwen and Trent (Gwent)
Old Opinion: "Despite this couple not personally being one of my favorites, I'd really enjoyed the relationship these two characters had. The reason I enjoyed them though at all was character development related. Gwen during this short lived summer romance learned through Trent humility, and that she didn't have to be so reserved all of the time. Trent learned through Gwen that any challenge is possible, if you try hard enough to achieve it. Gaining Gwen's love was the stepping stone for this lesson, which Trent has shown throughout the series to still follow closely. What hurts this couple for me is the OCD Trent started to develop due to the relationship in Total Drama Action, which led to their breakup in the worst episode of the show, "3:10 to Crazytown". Also, Trent in my opinion was kind of a flat character, unlike Gwen's other love interests Duncan and Cameron (I think)."
New Opinion: Before I start, I have to say I really screwed up in saying Trent was a flat character. Trent's character is pretty complex now that I think about it. He is a dreamer, who wishes for fame from his music, mostly done by his iconic guitar. However, having these dreams does not make him soft. Trent is assertive and is not afraid to share to the world any of his frustrations. His biggest character flaw is his OCD towards the number nine, which was something he developed after losing his grandfather. Character wise, Trent is complex much like the other characters in the series.
As for the relationship between Gwen and Trent, it was a clear example of a summer romance. They were never going to stay together, despite both characters having a decent amount of chemistry between them. There were just too many factors holding them back. Gwen never truly got over the accidental kiss Trent had with Heather for starters, as well as for him leaving her buried alive much longer than she needed to. Then there is the fact Trent was not fully accepting of Gwen's gothic outlook on the world, did not share her love for horror films, got overly jealous to both Cody and Duncan, was overly obsessive on the relationship, and even went nearly insane for his love for Gwen. As terrible as "3:10 to Crazytown" was, especially with its portrayal of the entirety of The Killer Grips, it ended the relationship sadly at the right time. Both characters had different destinies, and their time together taught them that. I'm not against this couple at all, but looking at the facts, they are better off separated.
