Dawn and Scott (Dott)

(Many thanks to Girlygirl805 for suggesting this ship to be re-reviewed.  For those who don't know about her, she is a huge Total Drama and Dott fan, and has written many fan fictions on the show, and a couples' opinion book of her own.  I recommend checking her page out or even following her.  Trust me, you won't regret it.)

Old Opinion: " There is a really good reason as to why I delayed talking about this ship for some time.  It wasn't because I hated the ship entirely, or I couldn't use the right words to describe why I loved it so much.  The reason was simply I didn't know what to think of it.  I kept going back and forth on whether or not I could support or diss this ship.  On one hand, I didn't like the ship because I supported Scott being with Courtney more and thought the relationship didn't make any sense.  On the other hand, I saw the vast amount of support this ship was receiving and couldn't help but think the fans were maybe on to something.  It was this back and forth motion for a long time, until I recently saw something that made up my mind entirely.  It was the third episode of Total Drama: Revenge of the Island, where Dawn and Scott were both featured characters.  In that episode, I noticed Dawn seemed to have a secret attraction to Scott at the time, which was confirmed when she seemed to blush over his ability to be able to talk to insects like her.  Those scenes finally helped me make up my mind on my position towards this ship, which is to support it.

There is no doubt in my mind that Dawn definitely at one time loved Scott.  She seemed to fall in love with him over his kind of sad past, which she found out through reading his aura.  Dawn discovered that Scott's father never really paid any attention to him, which could have made Scott feel unloved and feel he had to do everything only for himself.  Dawn naturally felt bad for him and wanted to help him feel loved through a friendship towards her.  Through this, Dawn discovered Scott had a few things in common with her, such as the beetle whispering I mentioned earlier.  These similar personality traits made Dawn fall madly in love with Scott, ignoring the negative aspects of his personality.  I definitely can say I would've probably done the same in Dawn's position, as I try to find the more positive parts of a person's personality in real life myself.  I can't help but want Dawn to succeed and win Scott over somehow, with these similar emotions in mind.  It makes me ship these two pretty hard, to the point where I consider myself a certified Dott fan, (someone who ships these two characters together).

However, Scott clearly doesn't like Dawn back.  He found her a little too quirky for his taste, and preferred someone who likes to take authority like him.  This made me so angry when he caused Dawn's elimination, not only breaking the poor girl's heart into two, but making the chances of these two characters getting together very slim.  If he had only seen that Dawn understood his personality better than anyone, they could've ended up together as one of the best Total Drama couples.  As much as I like Scott with Courtney a little bit better, I can't help but want Scott to be with Dawn.  I guess this ship is just a guilty pleasure of mine that is never truly going to go away, no matter how much logic stops it from coming true.  It is just like me shipping Cody with Gwen.  I badly want it to happen, but I know it is next to impossible."

New Opinion: My opinion as to how Dawn liked Scott back on Revenge of the Island after all this time have remained unchanged. I still highly believe that she sensed another side of Scott with her aura reading abilities, which was not self centered and completely unsympathetic about anyone. I think she saw the side of him that acted rash because his lack of attention from both of his parents, especially the father, who went away to the military a lot, leaving Scott at home in poverty with his mother. Worse, there is evidence to suggest his father does not care for him very much. During Scott's audition tape, it is revealed that his father was recording the video and throughout the tape, the father doesn't speak once. This maybe could suggest that he was bored with the idea or was unimpressed. It is kind of a far fetched theory, but it makes sense if you think about the fact that Scott's father is indeed away a lot. When Dawn saw this side, she did what most of us would do and try to get to know him better so she could help him. However by doing so, she fell in love with Scott, believing him not to be bad, but instead a tortured soul. That was why she was so impressed with his beetle whispering and seemed content when they accidentally kissed. There is no doubt Dawn felt something for Scott for the majority of the five episodes she premiered in.

However, my position on the Scott side of the equation has changed a bit. While I do believe he did not love her back, there is evidence to suggest that at least he respected her. There was never a moment before the fifth episode that showed Scott having any ill will towards her. When she read his aura and complimented him on his beetle whispering, Scott was shown to be neutral on both occasions, never once calling her weird. Better yet, Dawn was a strong member of his team for a bit, which put her on his good side. Scott didn't know about the romantic feelings Dawn had for him though, and it is currently unknown if these feelings could arise for him. Maybe in a future season Scott might fall for Dawn, but it would be tough, considering he humiliated her with a horrible elimination when he was still depicted as a heartless villain. Now with Scott as an anti-hero there might be a chance, but only if could make up to Dawn and move on from Courtney.

At this point, it is kind of a flip of a coin as to whether or not they would become a couple. With the ship's high popularity, it might, but only if the creators of the show feel they can fix the errors Scott made.
