"Got Venom" Episode Review

Episode Summary: Did you guys enjoy the cookies, because I sure didn't. I was too congested after crying over the elimination this episode. Who got eliminated you may ask? None other than the team that got me interested into watching the Ridonculous Race in the first place. You will forever be in my heart, The R... Oh, darn, now I'm giving the episode away! You know what, forget the sob story. Onto the review!

After barely freezing their butts off in the Arctic Circle, the contestants are sent to a nice and safe next destination, Flores, Indonesia.  What makes this destination safe you may ask.  Well, it is none other than the hundreds of venomous Komodo Dragons roomed the beach filled area.  Wait a second, that makes the destination actually very dangerous!  The challenge this episode is to somehow collect venom from these dangerous beasts, and then find a Ridonculous Race themed rug in a pile of loomed carpets.  Whoever finishes both of the tasks first wins, and avoids a possible elimination.

There is really not much to say about the Best Friends in this episode, unlike the other teams.  The episode starts with Devin still in the fourth stage of heartbreak, and at the point where he might make a friendship with the Goths.  Carrie fears the possible reality of Devin being stuck like this forever, until somehow he magically finally ends up at the fifth stage of heartbreak; acceptance.  Happy now that Devin has moved on from Shelly, Carrie expresses her happiness over her ability to now admit her love to him.  Other than a few screen shots of the team, both characters really aren't mentioned for the rest of the episode.  Yeah, I guess it was kind of for the best.

Angry that their plans to trick the Surfer Dudes backfired, the Ice Dancers try to do the same failed tactic on the Goths.  Josse tries to make them believe that Loki, the Goths' pet rabbit, is terrified of the possibility of being eaten.  The only way to calm his fears would be to get him to safety, thus botching the challenge for the team.  However, the plan backfires again when Ennui spiritually connects with Loki, finding out the rabbit has a plan to get the venom safely.  The Goths end up following through with this plan, thus securing themselves easily with the venom.  They then easily make it through the rest of the challenge and end up making it to the Chill Zone first.  The only satisfaction the Ice Dancers get this episode is a secure place in second, which they still aren't entirely happy about.  So, I am going to take a wild guess and say the Ice Dancers will be eliminated soon.  Let us see where my prediction leads in the next few episodes.

Ryan has finally found a simple way to one up Stephanie; always say yes to everything she says.  This leads Stephanie to some trouble when for most of the episode she is chased by a Komodo Dragon over a freaking mango.  Ryan foul have helped her, but his yes policy lead him to ignore her the entire time.  However, karma hits Ryan in the butt when Stephanie finds a way to beat up the dragon and uses the same tactic to get revenge on him for almost letting her get killed.  Wow, I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with Stephanie for once.  That is a rarity.

The Police Cadets finds themselves in peril when one of McArthur's rash plans gets them surrounded by Komodo Dragons.  As a result, the girls are trapped in a tree, possibly about to meet their doom.  This causes both of the characters to admit the worst things they have ever done, in order to clear themselves of past guilt before they die.  Sanders harmlessly admits to just not going back to a fast food restaurant to pay for some fries the place forgot to charge her on.  (Dude, that isn't even a sin!  The restaurant messed up, not you!)  McArthur though admits to having a dark past as a criminal known as Valentina Escobar.  She also admits to hiding all this info to cheat her way into cadet school, which may have not only cost her position as a cadet but also made the law abiding Sanders hate her.  Right when it seems that they are about to die, the Surfer Dudes come to save them.  Apparently, Brody heard McArthur screaming and wanted to save his "princess" from the "fire breathing" dragons.  It works at first, but it backfires quickly once the Komodo Dragons force them up a tree.  However, both teams are saved after McArthur comes up with the idea of throwing her long armpit hair at the Komodo Dragons, thus buying both teams time to escape.

The Sisters and the Reality TV Pros enter this portion of the race completely unfocused.  The reason for this is Noah and Emma's love for each other, which has made both of them disregard the race.  Although Kitty eventually is able to convince Emma to participate in this portion of the race, the same doesn't go for Noah.  He knows that if he loses the race, Emma will start dating him, so his motivation this episode is at an all-time low.  Owen, not wanting to lose the race, is forced to do the challenge almost completely on his own, which eventually leads to peril.  A "genius" idea to use shed Komodo Dragon skin to get close to the beats undetected backfires and Owen almost gets eaten by one of them.  He does eventually escape, but only after the Komodo Dragon has enough sweet time to drool some of its dangerous venom in his eye.  Thus, Owen botches up the second part of the challenge, and the entire team ends up placing last this episode.  Don informs them that they are safe though... to get back home without a Komodo Dragon eating the both of them.  Okay then, they are safe from elimination.  That doesn't mean they just got...  Oh, wait I was wrong.  THE REALITY TV PROS JUST GOT ELIMINATED!!!!!  WHY?!!!!

However, the really tearful elimination ends bittersweet, when Emma finally kisses Noah.  Also, Noah reveals that the entire team was asked to participate in another season of something.  I'm taking a guess and saying they are going to be in a revised version of Total Drama All-Stars.  It is the only reason why the writers would black out the scene right before Noah would say his answer.

Well, I'm kind of depressed over my favorite team going home.  I guess I'm going to need some of those cookies I baked.  Oh yeah, and a chill pill for my overreaction.  Hopefully the Sisters won't be going home soon so you guys won't have to be subjected to another of my crying fits.  Wait, did I just jinx myself?

Positive Aspects:  The main reason for watching this well put together episode stands alone with its well executed humor.  I don't know why, but I end up laughing nearly to death from the antics in this episode.  Who knew the writers were capable of making the terrifying idea of getting Komodo Dragon venom funny.  Also, they risked controversy with the jokes surrounding the Police Cadets and Stephanie kind of being defenseless this episode.  However, they pulled it off in such a genius way that you can't help but laugh.  The comedy helped me cope with the idea of losing my favorite team, the Reality TV Pros, this episode from elimination.  I still was upset over the idea of losing them, but hey, they had a good run.

Speaking of the Reality TV Pros, I was extremely happy with how their arc ended for this season.  Although they ended up ultimately losing the race, the team gained something from participating in this race.  That gain was Noah's character development, which has to be some of the best of any character from any past season.  Starting out this season as the dark horse cynic that we can't help but love, all Noah wants is to win the million dollars.  He is sick and tired of losing every single reality show he has ever participated on, and he thinks a victory would end up filling this void.  However, love ends up being the answer to Noah's feelings of failure.  By falling in love with Emma, Noah found another solution to the gap inside of him.  He found that love and even friendship are more powerful than the lore a million dollars can have on you.  Through this, Noah found happiness, through the mutual love he found with Emma.  This episode especially shows how much Noah has changed as a character and that these life lessons will stick with him wherever he may end up in the future.  Noah's hidden kindness has finally been exposed, not only making him an easy fan favorite for this season, but my all-time favorite Total Drama character.  Even if the next season of Total Drama bombs, I'll still be inspired by what the writers were able to do for Noah in a single, well executed season.

With the Reality TV Pro's story over, I really can't wait to see what will come for the remaining seven teams.  Perhaps there is still some hidden character development going on, and there will be more satisfaction to come.  I can't wait for the next few episodes, especially after a grand episode like this showing just how great this show can be.

Negative Aspects:  However, this episode is far from perfect.  I do have an issue with the Best Friends not really having a lot of time in this episode to devote to their story arc.  With Devin now accepting Shelly's break-up with him, wouldn't it have been nice to see a few more scenes with both characters.  There is a high chance they are going to get together now, so maybe a bit of foreshadowing towards that possibly might have added something to this episode.  Also, the writers really screwed up with a simple fact that pretty much all Total Drama fans know.  Owen didn't win a million dollars in Total Drama Island!  He won a hundred thousand dollars, which he lost once he took the risk of trying to get the offered million instead.  That money ended up in Duncan's pocket, after he ended up winning the next season for the offered money, Total Drama Action.  Owen lost that season with an eighth place rank (I don't count the four episodes where he was Chris's mole), thus losing the money.  However, this statement could be explained if Owen won the money somewhere else, but I highly doubt that since it seems all the reality shows he was on after Total Drama, Noah was there with him.  Noah stated he never won a competition before, so there is no way the money was obtained that way.  All this statement leads to is a blond moment from the writers, which really should have been edited out of the episode.
