"Dude Buggies" Episode Review

Episode Summary:  our episode begins immediately after the tragedy of losing the Reality TV Pros with a trip to Las Vegas.  Oh great, so Emma is going to gamble her feelings for Noah away?  I have a feeling I'm going to hate this...  Wait a second!  The contestants are competing right in the desert region right next to the famed city?  Well, I'm sorry for the rash assumptions.  I guess I'm a little too crazy over Nemma.  I guess I have to bake some more cookies.

The challenge this episode is quite simple.  Teams have a choice of one of two challenges to finish this time around.  They can either ride "dude" buggies (you saw that pun there) or preform a magic trick in front of a professional magician.  Whoever gets to the Chill Zone first of course wins the challenge.

Not really much happens in the plot department today.  Angry at the Ice Dancer's recent loss against the Goths (or as Josse calls the Vampires), Josse tries to win the challenge before the other team with the magic trick.  However, Jacques for some reason is presumed to be lion chow by the actual animal, which is to be used in the trick, forcing them to have to switch to the "dude" buggies.  This though costs them the challenge, as the Goths easily impress the magician and secure themselves into first place yet again.  This causes Josse to ramble on about the team consisting of vampires, which poor Jacques will have to intervene in and inform the crazy girl they are just goths.

However, the Goths weren't really the true winners this time around.  The real title belongs to the Surfer Dudes, who impressively finished the "dude" buggy challenge in a mere 18 seconds.  That is if they didn't take a dose of stupid pills and decided to repeat the course over and over again for fun.  This lands them in an undeserving fifth place position, which could have been avoided if they just ran to the Chill Zone after the first run.  Ladies and gentlemen, here are our idiots of the episode!

The Haters fight as usual, but to a lesser extent than the last half of the season.  It seems that sparks may be reigniting between the two exes, and a makeup may be well on its way.  That is of course if they can stop fighting for once, which is going to take a lot from both sides.  Hey, miracles could happen.

Finally, it is a neck and neck "dude" buggy race between the Police Cadets and the Sisters.  Due to hostilities between McArthur and surprisingly the usually calmer Kitty, the race continuer way longer than it should.  McArthur never lets things go, and wants to win the struggle between the two teams.  Kitty is a former gamer and past video game related rage fills her usually mild mannered mind.  Eventually, the argument ends on a stalemate, allowing the two teams to gain a little respect for each other.

Well, that was a pretty fun episode.  Sure, nothing important happened, but it was an enjoyable episode...  Wait a minute!  I forgot to mention the Best Friends' plot, which has finally reached its climax and is a complete game changer for the show.  Darn, how did I almost forget that?

Devin has at last went through the five stages of heartbreak and is ready to move on.  So, you think a kiss is about to happen between Carrie and Devin, which has been foreshadowed for most of this wonderful season?  If you said yes, then you haven't watched this episode.  Due to his new outlook on life, Devin has only one goal in mind; to win the competition.  This causes him to jerkily push Carrie to try to finish the challenges before anyone else, never letting her have impute on any of his decisions.  This makes Carrie start to question her feelings for the man she lived since childhood, seeing a side of him that she would have never dreamed of seeing before.  These feelings continue to grow inside of Carrie, until a miscalculation from Devin during the magic trick causes Carrie to be stuck underground with a bunch of man-eating lions.  Seeing the incident as a sign, Carrie decides she needs to take charge of her team, and to ditch her feelings for Devin in favor of her individuality.  Sadly though, Devin through this accident realizes how much of a jerk he was the entire challenge, and that he does just see Carrie as a friend.  Instead, he has a hidden crush for his childhood friend.  Before he can say these things to Carrie after she is rescued though, she ignores him and forces him to the finish.  Well, as M. Night Shyamalan once apparently said on Robot Chicken, "What a twist."  Also, if you didn't get the joke with me using quotations over the word dude, you might need some glasses.

Positive Aspects:  Although the episode doesn't take place inside the crazy settings of the notorious city of Las Vegas, it seems like it does.  The whole episode can be described as the writers having a huge sugar rush, using that energy in a night at the casinos, and then creating this twenty two minute plot.  Oh, and it is every bit of fun you can imagine it being.  The words I can say describe this episode are action packed, funny, and creative.  If you are one for these kinds of episodes, you will not be disappointed.  Not only is it tons of fun to watch, but it is absolutely perfect in execution and pacing.

If you aren't satisfied with just that, the Best Friends' turning point in their season long arc will definitely be enough to lure you in.  The whole idea of Carrie deciding to give up on trying to win over Devin is one huge thing entirely on its own.  It is definitely a game changer, and will keep your attention in the episode.  However, the fact that this happens right when Devin realizes he loves her makes this episode completely mandatory to watch.  Such an ironic twist is not what seemed to be building up in this sweet plot line throughout the season.  What most people, including me, thought was going to happen was that Carrie was going to do the cliche thing by admitting her feelings to Devin and then starting a relationship with him.  It had happened with Gwen and Trent back on Total Drama Island, so why not in a spin-off right at the edge of the series's dark age?  The writers must be running out of ideas by now.  After this episode though, it appears the writers still have plenty of ideas to spare, especially with the new concept.  No one would think Carrie was going to give up on trying and that Devin now would take over her role in the series through his development of feelings towards her.  It seems it will be Devin who will have to admit his feelings instead, leading to a very interesting role reversal that will last for many episodes to come.  This episode isn't just fun.  It also is a mandatory episode to watch if you want to understand what is going on this season.

If you haven't watched this episode already, I really recommend you do.  Not only is the execution completely perfect, but there are a few surprises in store for those just expecting a fun filler episode of The Ridonculous Race.
