Car rides to Malibu
She Strawberry ice cream, one spoon for two
And tradin' jackets
Laughin' 'bout how small it looks on you
(Ha-ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, ha-ha-ha-ha)
Courtney laughed, grabbing the strawberry ice cream cone from Duncan's hand. "That coat is way too small for you! Yours is nice and toasty on me. They were sitting on the pier next to the ocean. They had stopped by Courtney's favorite ice cream shop.
"Haha, very funny, princess." Duncan playfully rolled his eyes. He attempted to put his arms to his sides in the light purple corduroy jacket. "I can't move my arms in here."
"Hmm, I guess that's too bad then. More ice cream for me." She licked the ice cream, giggling.
"Don't tease me like that."
"Here you go, Dunkie." Courtney smiled, holding the cone out for him. He leaned forward and took a giant bite out of it.
"Hey!! We are SHARING!"
"I know, but you made fun of me." Duncan stuck out his tongue, exposing his tongue ring.
"What if I ripped that out?" Courtney pointed to the metal ball.
"That would hurt like hell."
"I know." She smiled to herself.
"I'm convinced you're a demon," Duncan said.
"You know I'd never do that to you, babe." She kissed his cheek. "Now, get out of my jacket."
Watching reruns of Glee
Bein' annoying, singin' in harmony
I bet she's braggin'
To all her friends, sayin' you're so unique, hmm
"I see you driving downtown with the guy I love, and I'm like, forget you!!!" Courtney sang goofily, falling on Duncan's lap. "Come on, harmonize with me!" She begged. "I know you know how to sing."
Duncan sighed reluctantly. "Fine." He took a breath, and Courtney joined in. "...Said if I was richer, I'd still be with you! Ha, ain't that some shit?!"
"Hey! No cursing." Courtney cackled. "They even block it out on the show."
"What can I say? I live for the profanity."
"You're so vile."
"Vile's your favorite word to call your favorite guy."
"That is—sadly true." Courtney sat back up on the couch. "I still can't believe you've never seen Glee."
"It never interested me," Duncan replied.
"Does it interest you now?"
"Maybe."
So when you gonna tell her that we did that, too?
She thinks it's special, but it's all reused
That was our place, I found it first
I made the jokes you tell to her when she's with you
Do you get déjà vu when she's with you?
Do you get déjà vu? Ah, hmm
Do you get déjà vu, huh?
Duncan led Gwen up a steep, grassy hill. "This is my hideout. It's a super relaxing place to think—and read if you're into that shit," he laughed.
"Wow," Gwen gawked. "The sunset looks gorgeous from here! How did you find this?!"
Courtney led Duncan up the hill behind her neighborhood's public library. "This is the spot I go to read after I check out a book from the library."
Duncan looked at the view of the cityscape and the pink and purple sunset on the horizon. "Wow. This is awesome." He sat next to her on the grass. "It's a darn shame I don't read."
"I wish you would." Courtney ran her hands through the grass.
"I'd read a picture book."
"That's lame."
They laid down, looking at the sky. Duncan tucked his hands under his head. "This is pretty relaxing. I'm surprised you're still uptight, princess."
"Oh, shut up."
"—I found it while out exploring," Duncan answered Gwen.
Do you call her, almost say my name?
'Cause let's be honest, we kinda do sound the same
Another actress
I hate to think that I was just your type
Duncan called Gwen while he was sitting in his bed.
"Hello?" She picked up the phone.
"Hey Co—Gwen," he corrected slowly.
"Excuse me? Did you just call me...?"
"Courtney," Duncan answered his phone, grinning. "What's up, babe?"
"Hey, baby," Courtney said from the other end. "Wanna see that new romance movie in theaters?"
"Don't tell me it's the one we've seen the trailer for a thousand times," he groaned.
"Yep. It's the one."
"Sorry, princess, but there's no way I'm seeing that."
"Alright, I'll make you a deal. I'll watch a horror movie with you if you see this movie with me?"
"Really? No way, you're shitting me."
"I'm not," Courtney laughed. "This is a real deal."
"Sweet! Yeah, I'll see the romance movie with you."
"Yes! Thank you so much, Dunkie!"
"...Call you what?" Duncan asked Gwen.
"—Oh, nothing."
And I bet that she knows Billy Joel
'Cause you played her "Uptown Girl"
You're singin' it together
Now I bet you even tell her how you love her
In between the chorus and the verse
"She'll see I'm not so tough just because I'm in love with an uptown girl. You know I've seen her in her uptown world. She's getting tired of her high-class toys and all her presents from her uptown boys. She's got a choice. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh!" Gwen and Duncan yelled out the words to Uptown Girl in Duncan's car. They were driving out of town for the weekend for a camping trip.
"I love you," Duncan smiled, glancing at Gwen.
Gwen laughed joyfully. "I love you too."
Oh, oh, oh, oh!" Courtney and Duncan sang.
"Hey, Courtney," Duncan said.
"Hey, what?" She laughed.
"I love you."
Courtney smiled at him with adoration. "I love you too."
So when you gonna tell her that we did that, too?
She thinks it's special, but it's all reused
That was the show we talked about
Played you the song she's singing now when she's with you
Do you get déjà vu when she's with you?
Do you get déjà vu? (Oh-oh)
Do you get déjà vu?
Strawberry ice cream in Malibu
Don't act like we didn't do that shit, too
You're tradin' jackets like we used to do
(Yeah, everything is all reused)
"What ice cream do you want?" Gwen asked Duncan.
"I think we should share strawberry," he answered.
"Awe, you wanna share? How cute."
"Of course, I wanna share with you."
Play her piano, but she doesn't know
That I was the one who taught you Billy Joel
A different girl now, but there's nothing new
"Try on my jacket," Duncan told Gwen. "I bet it would look cute on you, pasty."
"Oh really?" Gwen giggled. She took off her black coat and slid into Duncan's red one. "Try mine on."
"Alright. I'll make it look better," he teased. Duncan managed to fit into her jacket but couldn't move.
"I can't move my arms in here."
He shook his head, trying to clear the memory of when he and Courtney did this. I'm with Gwen now. Gwen is all that matters.
I know you get déjà vu
"Ew!" Gwen pointed to a spilled ice cream cone with bird poop all over it. "Man, that's so vile!"
"You're so vile."
I know you get déjà vu
"Right, disgusting." Duncan grimaced, but he wasn't fully paying attention. Why can't I stop thinking of her?!
Later that evening, Gwen rested her head on Duncan's shoulder as they looked out into the ocean. "I love you," she murmured.
"I love you, Dunkie."
I know you get déjà vu.
