Episode 8: The Tables Have Turned- Nighttime/Breakfast
"Last time on Total Drama Island: Return to Wawanakwa..." Chris announced through a voiceover, "Alejandro's elimination split the Wild Wolverines in half: the remains of Alejandro's alliance and the romantic couple."
*Shows a shot of Alexander talking to Laila and a shot of Amalia & Daniel lying in bed together*
"Before the challenge, the campers were thrown for a loop when I announced another team swap. Amalia & Daniel were separated, Katelyn lost most of her allies, most of the Chaotic Cougars alliance remained intact, and Rhythm was sent to Boney Island for the day."
*Shows shots of the remaining campers being surprised, Daniel & Amalia getting different coloured paint, Katelyn being on a different team than Devin & Kiana, Veronica, Aaron, & Matthew hugging, and of Rhythm being driven to Boney Island*
"As the teams immersed themselves in the race around the island, a deal was made between Daniel & Devin in order to keep their closest allies safe."
*Shows shots of Daniel & Devin talking*
"After assuring his allegiance, Daniel successfully helped Veronica throw the challenge in order to keep Amalia safe."
*Shows shots of Daniel & Veronica talking, and of Veronica & Aaron being unable to throw coconuts into the net*
"With the challenge over, Veronica gathered her alliance to split the votes against Katelyn: their target, and Ellie: Katelyn's closest ally."
*Shows shots of Veronica's alliance talking, and of Katelyn & Ellie hugging*
"But Daniel spilled the beans to Katelyn, and when Daniel refused to switch his vote, Katelyn was forced to vote for her closest ally, thereby giving Ellie a ticket to ride the Submarine of Losers."
*Shows shots of Daniel talking to Katelyn in the bathroom, Katelyn voting for Ellie, and Ellie walking down the Dock of Shame*
"Twelve campers are left, who will be voted out this time? Find out right here, on Total...Drama...Island:...Return to Wawanakwa!"
--------
The cameras first turned their attention to the male's side of the loser's cabin, where Aaron, Daniel, Veronica, Rhythm, and Matthew had gathered to discuss the elimination. For all of them, the plan to get rid of Katelyn failed, and only one of them truly knew what went down with regards to the votes. They needed to figure out what happened and where to go from there.
"Okay, what happened?" Veronica asked, wanting a straight answer.
"That was not the plan that we agreed on. Something must've gone wrong, and I need to get to the bottom of this!"- Veronica
"Daniel, you said that you knew what happened, right?" Matthew asked.
"Correct," Daniel confirmed, "I'm reasonably convinced that Katelyn voted for Ellie."
"To be honest, I'm not 100% sure if Katelyn voted for Ellie, but it's the only out that I've got. I have to convince the others that Katelyn was the one that switched her vote instead of me."- Daniel
"Why would she do that?" Matthew asked, confused, "She was her only ally."
"Maybe she knew that we'd split the vote and target her on the re-vote," Daniel suggested, "She's not dumb."
"Very true," Rhythm agreed, "And I wouldn't put it past her; she's so sly that she'd betray anyone to get to the end. Even her closest ally."
"You alright, Aaron?" Matthew asked, noting that he hadn't said anything since the beginning of the conversation.
"I'm just....fed up with Katelyn..." Aaron admitted, trying his best not to scream.
"I am pissed at Katelyn right now. Out of all the people to try and get rid of, she goes and betrays her closest ally. Daniel has a vendetta against her, and now I understand why: she's pure evil! Ellie, if you're watching this, I'm gonna get revenge for you! Just you watch!"- Aaron
"Trust me, man; we're all fed up with Katelyn at this point," Matthew rationalized.
"Couldn't agree more," Rhythm added.
"Y'know what they say: if at first you don't succeed, do the exact same thing again," Aaron remarked, "Let's throw the next challenge and get rid of Katelyn."
"I love the sound of that," Rhythm admitted as she gave Aaron a high-five.
"I've been waiting for a while to take out Katelyn. And it looks like fate wants us to take her out now. And honestly, it's what she deserves."- Rhythm
"I'm down for that plan," Veronica agreed, "Any objections?"
"I'm not against it," Matthew answered.
"It's what has to happen, so let's get it done," Daniel remarked.
"I absolutely DO NOT want to throw the next challenge. If we lose, I literally can't save Katelyn unless I give her my invincibility head. If I'm going to use one, it would be for someone who I actually need in this game; like Amalia, for instance. I've got to find a way to turn this around."- Daniel
--------
Daniel wasn't the only person desperate to try and turn the game around. Katelyn pondered how to do this whilst laying in her bunk. She was alone, both in her room and in the game. Ellie was her closest ally on her team and she just cast the deciding vote against her. Left without any solid allies, she had to think deeply and thoroughly about what to do next.
"Katelyn Lewis: sixteen and alone. What to do?" Katelyn asked mockingly.
"I'm almost completely screwed. I feel bad that Ellie had to go because of me, but my safety is my number one priority. I'm willing to do whatever buys me one more day in this game, and if taking out a close ally is the only thing that I can do, I'll do it."-Katelyn
"New idea," Katelyn declared as she threw a pillow over her face and wiped water into her eyes.
"Hello...?" Veronica whispered as she walked into the room with Rhythm, "Are you asleep, Katelyn?"
"Nah..." Katelyn muttered in a saddened tone.
"You alright?" Veronica asked, concerned.
"I'm....disappointed..." Katelyn muttered, "I'm a scumbag..."
"No you're not," Veronica insisted as she walked over to Katelyn, "Don't say that."
"Yes I am..." Katelyn assured as she kept her head under her pillow, "I shouldn't have voted for her! Now I'm alone...."
"Girl, you're not alone, because you still have all of the rest of your teammates," Veronica noted, "Remember, we're a team, and a team doesn't turn their backs on their teammates."
"She's right," Rhythm agreed, "Hey, don't get discouraged. Remember, as long as you're in this game, you always have a chance at winning."
"If you say so..." Katelyn replied as she rolled over to face away from her teammates.
"If you need anything let us know, alright?" Rhythm assured.
"Okay..." Katelyn responded, still with her head under her pillow.
"Even though I want to get rid of Katelyn, I'm not gonna be mean to her while she's here. That's not who I am in this game and that's not who I am outside this game either."- Rhythm
"By doing this, I'm hoping to gain a bit of sympathy. If I act sad and depressed enough, they might feel really bad for me and they might keep in the game a little longer."- Katelyn
--------
Being alone wasn't something that people wanted. It would be even worse if you were alone on a desolate island in the middle of nowhere and in torrential weather, like Amalia was. She was cold, alone, and worried for her safety. Her one solace was that she had a brand new clue to a hidden invincibility statue, and she didn't want to give up, although she was pretty close to doing so.
"Like, where else could it be?!" Amalia exclaimed as she walked through the forest.
"I don't get how Daniel found the invincibility head so easily! Listen to this clue: 'Immunity-bound, can be found, in something round, that needs a pound.' Like, what the f**k?"- Amalia
At this point, having searched for hours with no luck, and coupled with the terrible weather, Amalia retreated back to her shack to hunker down until the boat arrived to pick her up. As she laid down and looked up at the hastily made roof, all that she could think about was Daniel. In the cold, wet, darkness of the night, all that she wanted to do was cuddle with him. To keep her spirits up, she decided to do the one thing that always kept her happy: singing.
♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫
We could pretend to be in LA...
Wonder why we spent our lives living this way,
Stealing street signs, and we don't know what they say,
Hanging them up in our room, and dance under the moon,
But there's so much more to life out there!
And baby, I want to discover it with you,
Oh, I want to run through the valleys, gotta bend through the alleys!
So long as I can do it with you,
'Cause I'm so in love with you!
I need you and I wonder if you need me too,
It's easy to romanticize, but I realize,
What we...could...be...
Baby, let's just take a minute,
Think about the world that's spinning,
We have tiny little things, discovering just what we mean,
Holding onto what we know,
How we even raised our tea shows,
Take my hand, climb on in, let's see what we can see!
I want you to wonder about the world with me......!
With me.....!
With me.....!
I want you to wonder......with.....me....
♫♫♫♫♫♫♫♫
"Will he wonder with me...?" Amalia muttered.
"All this time alone might be getting to me. I have a habit of asking dumb questions and talking to myself when I've got nothing to do. Right now I'm stuck thinking about how far Daniel is willing to go with me. I mean, from a game perspective, he's done nothing but protect me this whole time. But from a personal perspective, I'm worried that he might just be acting all nice to try and string me along. Gah! See?! Dumb questions!!"- Amalia
--------
This was the stage of the game when people began to question a lot of what went on around them. No one knew with absolute certainty if their allies were being truthful to them, and that made people want to go out and prove their loyalty to them. A perfect example was Devin: he knew that he was looked at as a fairly weak competitor, so he had to do his best to assure his closest allies that he was loyal.
"You see, I trust you 100%, and you're the only person who I've told that," Devin revealed as he walked with Kiana, "I wouldn't mind going to the final two with you."
"I've always had a feeling that Katelyn & Kiana were really close. But if I can express my loyalty to Kiana and let her know that I'm not gonna betray her, her and I could get ourselves into a power position. And honestly, I wouldn't mind going to the end with her."- Devin
"You know that on this team, all that we have is each other," Devin reminded, "As long as we stay together, we'll be safe, right?"
"I agree," Kiana answered as the two of them walked downstairs, "I've always wanted to keep you in the game and I'm not going to break that."
"Devin has really tried to show me that he's a loyal guy. Honestly, he's done more to get me to trust him than Katelyn has. I know that I've pretty much promised the world to Katelyn, but I wouldn't mind running with Devin to the end. Although it would hurt me sooo much to betray Katelyn."- Kiana
"*sniffing sounds* Do you smell that?" Devin asked.
"Hmm...smells like garlic...and bacon," Kiana replied, "Probably breakfast."
Their guesses were confirmed when they walked into the kitchen and saw the dining table decorated with platters of sunny side-up eggs, scrambled eggs, poached eggs, maple bacon, turkey bacon, sausage, flank steak, and baguettes. They saw the rest of their teammates gathered around the table and proceeded to join them.
"Hey guys," Devin greeted as he took a seat next to Laila, "This food looks awesome!"
"Tell me about it," Tory remarked.
"And here's the last batch!" Alexander declared as he walked in and poured some more scrambled eggs on the platter.
"Alexander, you made all of this?!" Kiana asked, shocked.
"Yeah," Alexander confirmed, "I wanted to do something nice for you guys. You know what they say: 'A team that eats well performs well'."
"Well, thanks," Laila commented, "I'm sure that we all appreciate it."
"Gotta admit: this bacon is bomb!" Tory admitted as he chowed down on a full strip of bacon.
"You're welcome," Alexander remarked, "Always good to help the team."
"I've got to try my hardest to convince everyone that I am a team player and a nice guy. If I can turn up the 'community service', I should be able to convince them to eliminate Amalia. You know what they say: 'The way into someone's heart is through their stomach'. This meal has just secured my way into the merge."- Alexander
"I really like the breakfast, but it hasn't really changed my opinion of him. From what Amalia has told me, Alexander can't be trusted. So....I'll continue to believe Amalia until something big tells me that I shouldn't."- Tory
"Everyone raise your glasses," Alexander ordered as he raised his glass of Pepsi, "A little toast to the Wild Wolverines. May we have as much unity during the challenge as we do right now. Cheers."
"Cheers," replied everyone in unison as they tapped their glasses together.
--------
As long as the campers were in teams, team unity was a very important quality to have. It didn't matter if they were trying to win challenges or simply get other people eliminated. Teams needed to be unified in order to have any sort of success at this stage of the game. As the Merciless Moose ate breakfast in the mess hall, they all made a fair attempt at trying to keep their team unified. At least, most of them made an attempt.
"Are you sure that this is food?" Aaron asked as he picked up his bowl of 'grey mush'.
"Tastes like porridge," Rhythm remarked, "Do you guys think so?"
"I don't know, but I'll be eating it," Daniel replied as he took a bite of the 'grey mush', "If I'm unconscious in a few hours, don't eat any more of it."
"Haha, very funny," Veronica remarked as she took a swig of her glass of water.
"Looking at our team, we're in a good spot. If we throw the next challenge, Katelyn goes home, and the five of us can band together and win the next challenge. The difficult part would be if we lose again."- Veronica
"This is the time to have some strategy talk. At the end of the day, the five of us are a solid group, and we can seriously do some damage."- Rhythm
"So, nothing's changed with the plan?" Rhythm asked.
"I mean...I see no problem with throwing it,"Matthew admitted, "We know who we're voting out."
"Honestly, I think that it's a bit risky," Daniel admitted, "If we know who we're voting out next, we should save it for the next time that we actually lose."
"I don't want to see Katelyn leave just yet. At this point, all that I can do is try and convince the team to not throw the challenge."- Daniel
"Do you not think that we can beat them?" Rhythm asked.
"I mean, we don't truly know how we're gonna fare against the other team because we didn't try last time," Daniel pointed out, trying to make a point, "I think that we should at least try and win the next challenge just so we know where we stand."
"We've also got to try and keep Katelyn's spirits up," Matthew proposed, "Just so she feels like a part of the team."
"What does it matter?" Aaron questioned, "She knows that she's a dead woman walking."
The group turned their heads to look at Katelyn, who was sitting all alone at the furthest table from them. From their perspective, it looked like she had given up. Even though they all knew that she was next on the chopping block, they couldn't help but feel bad for her, knowing that she had no allies left on the team.
"If you don't mind, I'm gonna go over there and pick her brain a little bit," Daniel declared as he walked over to where Katelyn was sitting," Hey, you mind if I sit down?"
"Um... go ahead," Katelyn allowed as Daniel took a seat across from her.
"Rough night?" Daniel asked.
"Yeah," Katelyn confirmed as she kept her eyes on her food.
"My only hope of staying in this game is to trust Daniel. I'm not gonna be a suck up and fall into his good graces, but I will tell him what I need to tell him in order to secure his loyalty."- Katelyn
"I'll just get to the point," Daniel declared, "You made a bold move by voting for Ellie."
"Wha...?" Katelyn muttered, shocked, "How did you find out?"
"You just told me..." Daniel answered, smirking.
"Damnit, Katelyn..." Katelyn remarked as she facepalmed herself, "Idiot..."
"Nah, that was a smart move," Daniel assured, "You did what you had to do to stay in the game, and I admire that."
"So...I guess that I'm next, right?" Katelyn asked, feigning weakness.
"Look, when I told you about the alliance, I meant it," Daniel assured, "You're a good player, and I'm not willing to throw you under the bus to please them."
"Thanks," Katelyn thanked, "I'm just losing hope, ya' know?"
"Don't get discouraged; you are a good competitor," Daniel insisted, "All it takes is one move and you can be in power. I just want to let you know that I'm willing to work with you, and if we make it to the merge, we can run this game."
"Alright," Katelyn replied, smiling, "Thanks."
"Looks like my sympathy tactic is actually working. Daniel feels sorry enough for me that he's totally willing to keep me in the game. Hopefully I can keep this up."- Katelyn
"Katelyn is definitely trying to play me; one second she's a confident woman, and the next second she's shriveled up and introverted. That just doesn't happen to people like her, especially in this kind of game. I'll keep her safe, but I'll keep my eye on her for sure."- Daniel
"Hello, campers!" Chris greeted as he walked through the door of the mess hall, shortly followed by the members of the Wild Wolverines, "It's time for your next challenge!"
"What? It's still breakfast time!" Matthew exclaimed.
"That's what we told him," Tory revealed.
"And since when has that stopped him?" Daniel asked as him and Katelyn went to rejoin their team.
"Of course, before we start, let's welcome Amalia back from Boney Island!" Chris declared as Amalia ran in from the kitchen doors.
"Hey guys!" Amalia greeted as she ran to hug Daniel, "I've missed you, ya' know."
"Yeah, I missed you too," Daniel replied as he rubbed Amalia's head, "You should get back to your team, eh?"
"Uh...yeah, sure..." Amalia agreed as she walked back to her team a bit disappointed.
"Aw...I was expecting a bit more after coming back from a night in hell." *pouts*- Amalia
"Anyways, it's time for your next challenge!" Chris declared, "For your next challenge, we're bringing back an old classic! Today, two trucks have arrived with a fresh shipment of food. You will be given two hours to use the ingredients and cook a three-course meal for 'moi'. Those will be an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. You must assign two team members to cook each dish."
"Honestly, I was a bit skeptical of doing this challenge again after what happened last time. But since these campers look a lot more competent and sane, I'm willing to give it a shot. At the end of the day, I get good food, and the lawyers are left happy. It's a win-win."- Chris
"Will we have to pick a head chef?" Alexander asked, hoping to be the leader.
"It's not mandatory, but you can if you want," Chris responded, "I will rank each dish on a scale of zero to ten, and the team with the highest cumulative score will win."
"This is the challenge to win. I cook super often back home, so this'll be a piece of cake!"- Alexander
"I'm not much of a cook. I'm more of a 'Hey, let's get some fastfood' person. Hopefully I can just slide by on this one..."- Aaron
"Oh, and one more thing," Chris noted, "Today, you won't be competing for immunity. This is a reward challenge! A pure reward challenge!"
"So we won't have to vote anyone out?" Laila asked, wanting assurance.
"I solemnly swear that you will not have to vote one of your own teammates out tonight," Chris announced, causing everyone to cheer.
"YES! For once I can just sit back, relax a little bit, and not have to worry about being eliminated."- Katelyn
"I'm pretty sure I know what Chris has planned, but I'm not gonna say anything, because if it's what I think it is, it could end up putting me in danger."- Daniel
"Can we know what the reward is?" Tory asked.
"Nope, you'll find that out after the challenge is over," Chris began as he pulled out his airhorn, "Ready, set, GO!"
With that, all twelve campers ran out towards the back of the mess hall, eager to take a look at what ingredients they had at their disposal. In many of their minds, they were ready to have some fun and win a neat reward. However, just like Daniel had predicted, Chris' reward was certainly different than what they had in mind.
"These campers will be in for a shock when they find out what the reward is," Chris conveyed as he turned to the main camera, "Which team will come out on top? Find out after the break on Total...Drama...Island:...Return to Wawanakwa!"
